Maybe it HDMI cable.

Buy new HDMI cable need 18Gbps for 4K

HDMI 2.0: Increased maximum bitrate to 18 Gbps to support new formats such as Ultra High Definition 4K video (3840 x 2160 pixels) at up to 60 frames per second. (The 1.4 spec also supports 4K video but only up to 30 frames per second.)

I seriously doubt the HDMI cables I use are the culprit or I woukdnt be able to run 4K HDR at all

Its basically the same thing.

No, because the source does not control the amount of refresh on the screen.

If you have a 120Hz television, 24fps material will still be seen at 120Hz. Same for 1080i/60fps, etc. When the framerate and refresh don't match the TV merely displays that frame again, 5 times in the case of 24fps material. It's too fast so you don't notice it.

Does anyone else's screen go black for about three seconds while watching a movie using the K8500? I've watched about 30 movies so far and with almost everyone my screen has gone black for about three seconds but the audio continues as usual. Tonight it went black two times during a two hr period which is the first time it's done this twice. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Try change different HDMI cable. If Again same screen has gone black about three seconds.

Different settings: RGB etc...

If again same screen has gone black about three seconds. Try change replace new Samsung UHD player.

Good choice.

I had this happen on the First K8500 I had and it got worse to the point where it stayed like that and I couldn't see any picture. I exchanged it for a new one and it did it again but for only a couple seconds. Finally I decided to get rid of my cheap Amazon HDMI cables and bought Monster Cables at Best Buy since then I haven't had any connection problems. Don't know if that helps any but like everyone else is saying try changing the cables and if that doesn't work maybe exchange it for another one if you can. You can also try changing the output resolution on the player to 2160P instead of Auto which seemed to also help. If you have a sound bar that could mess with things also.

So what does the 24p on/off setting located in the Samsung menu do, exactly?

"That potato is clearly not a potato!"

Seriously though, they are basically the same thing, elaborating on what I said doesn't change that.

I also set 24p on my Sony BD 6500 since I had that command disabled on both of my players. Might be all in my head but motion looks less jerky

It lets the TV know what interpolation mode to use.

Since TVs don't accept 1080p/30 it is getting a 60fps signal if it isn't 24p - so the TV repeats frames twice instead of 5 times for a 120Hz TV.

If you translate 24 fps to 60 fps the devices are using mismatched frame pull down methods and that can add some motion judder.

So out of curiosity, if the movie frame setting is turned off like Rocky had it before will the player still send a 1080p bluray signal or is it a 1080i HD signal?

I always thought the HD signal used 60fps and Bluray used 24fps

If you turn off 24 fps, the player sends 1080p/60 using mis-matched frame pull-down that can cause extra motion cadence judder.

The same with 2160... 24 fps is sent as 2160p/60.

You also need to have frame interpolation modes (the dreaded soap opera effect) turned off on your display.

Ok thanks for that info

I have a Sony which uses Motionflow, I think I have it set for Standard for 1080i and Truecinema for 1080p or 2160p signals. I have turned it off in the past but didn't notice any diff, what exactly is the Motionflow doing for each signal?

So disabling 24p on the player can only lead to more unnatural motion.
I am noticing less jerky motion and people and objects dont have those sudden twiches out of nowhere
