Still no show for it to come out in the U.K. or the price but with the price in the USA at $399 which is about £279 my bet is that Samsung will just remove the dollar and put a pound and make it £399 which is about $570 and rip off the ones who get it in the UK.

Would you have it any other way?

Seriously though. That US price isn't inclusive of sales tax like our prices include VAT. So it's a bit misleading. A lot of people would be paying more than $399 depending on what sales tax they have in their state.

So at the higher tax rate you could be looking at about an extra $35 on top. which is about $435.

And I think that $399 price is a pre order price, I;m sure I read that it goes up to $499 after launch (or am I just making that up?) so the price will be even higher.

So maybe our price inclusive of 20%vat wouldn't look that bad after all, still more than we should have to pay, but not the huge £100s difference as we see it.

$435 still comes to roughly £305 earth pounds and yes, apparently that's some sort of pre-order price but STILL: are we likely to get the Samsung at a special pre-order price of £305? The funk we are! If it's less than £400 I'd be amazed. I'd be amazed yet further if we get them before the summer, which may be delayed yet further if the MFs want to concentrate on flogging their TVs for the summer of sport that's ahead.

Rumor has it, once this player is released the price will increase.

Source: AVForums report at CES. But the Samsung guy couldn't confirm this.

The suggested retail price on the Samsung web site is $499.99, with a pre order price of $399.99.

Sure we're not, but add 20% vat and your closer to £365 which was kind of my point. Rather than being £100 more expensive it's more like 40.

Were obviously going to be paying more but that's just the nature of the game unfortunately.

We've been playing the number game for years trying to guess new console hardware prices before the £ price is released. And of course 9x out of 10 they just change the $ to a £.

But like you say we are in for a wait anyway so no point worrying about it now.

I want an OLED this year so the price of a player will be peanuts in comparison.

Okay, for argument's sake let's add 20% onto the US 'pre-order' price then: comes to $480 which is still only £336, even if we get ours for £400 all-in that's still £64 over which could be better spent elsewhere. But then you'll just dismiss that and say that it's "peanuts" anyway...why I do get the impression that everyone around here lights their cigars with £50 notes?

Samsung tells me the $399 price is the launch promotion. I do not know when or if the $100 IR will be removed to bring the selling price to MSRP $499.

If I have to throw down 2k plus on a tv I might as well be wiping my butt with notes, none of this stuff it's essential is it

Yes, because electronics go up in price. Sounds like a tactic to try to get more early adopters in trying to save $100.

Don't think Samsung is thinking more ^^ "Early Adopters" will buy early to save $100. My take is they may leave it at $399 and keep the $100 instant rebate on or not, but this has nothing to do with getting more early adopters to buy in at launch.

Default HDMI cable to support 2.0a (including HDR)

I understand that the HDMI 2.0a cables will supports all the current new standards including HDR. Does anyone have recommendations on good but reasonable in cost HDMI 2.0a cables out there. I will be connecting my Samsung 4K blu ray player to my Samsung JS8500 4K TV next month.

there are no "HDMI 2.0a" cables. there aren't even true HDMI 2.0 cables.

There are HDMI cables.

The 2.0a and 2.0 specs are port-side.

Unless you're doing an exceptionally long run, even the cheapest monoprice HDMI cables will carry the signal to the tv just as well.

So how do you know you are getting the HDR feature on your 4K TV from a 4K Blu Ray player that has HDR on the disc?

When the tv detects hdr, the settings will automatically change. The instructions for this is embedded in the metadata to do so.

OK, but how do you know it is really being done and displayed? Is there an indicator (I have a Samsung JS8500) on the TV that it is displaying HDR content?
