May I ask why you bought a projector that doesn't do 4K? Are there no decent 4k projectors yet??

I would love to do a projector with a huge screen for my next purchase, but it would have to be my everyday setup and my room is fairly bright during the day.

Stupid expensive, no HDR standards, the list goes on and on. If you already have a 4K tv none of these 4k projectors will wow you. I just chose a good quality 1080 projector to enjoy movies on a big screen with family without going broke. For everything else I use my 4k Oled.

yes, but not at the same time. My Denon receiver has dual HDMI connection so I can plug both Oled TV and Sony projector simultaneously and just choose which one to operate. I love my 4K Oled and that is "my baby", but the wife and family all want the big screen movie nights and they dont care about 4K much, as long as we can recreate the movie theater experience at home

I saw on a thread a guy had his TV on the wall and a pull down screen right in front of it, I like your idea better tho cause it seems he would have to adjust seating between using the two setups.

Just the wall, but I repainted it with flat matte to make sure the blacks stay as black as possible and no brightness gets lost from the picture.
I prefer what I did because I can also move the TV wherever I want it and turn it at whichever angle I want to turn it.
When it's time to use the projector I wheel the TV out of the way and into a corner... I even wheel the TV into the kitchen at times to use it while I'm cooking or fixing me a drink

Most people with front projection systems only use their regular TV's for basic TV watching - the news, talk shows, things like that, so they're not as important in the grand scheme of things and may not even be in the same room.

The projector comes into play for movie night, episodic TV, or sports (or gaming, though you want some spare bulbs handy for that!) and so you want to put the time, money, and effort into getting the front projection system (screen/projector) just right... and you put more of your investment into that equipment.

The benefit of not having the TV in the same room as the projector is that you can then have a fixed screen that is less likely to develop waves in the fabric like a drop down screen. Quality screen material is superior to a painted wall... and if you have enough room (though, in-wall speakers can help you out there)... you can choose acoustically transparent fabric and place your front speakers behind the screen just like in a professional cinema.

With a lot of modern movies sucking so badly... you need to get totally ripped to get any enjoyment out of them.

I only watch movies and sports, not too many shows and no gaming. If I went with a projector it would be my everyday setup, other than bedroom tv

Dont knock a well-treated wall too quickly, it offers plenty of contrast, brightness, and black as most screens-or at least most screens that dont cost an arm and a leg

Invest in a good one then. An e-shift 4k Epson or JVC most likely. Will there be other advancements in 4k/HDR/WCG projectors down the road?

When is there not? Buy when you can afford it and enjoy.

At least things in the A/V world don't exactly move at the speed of computers where you're obsoleted the minute you walk out of the store.

For movies I would want the biggest 4k image I could afford. Yes, black levels and HDR won't be as spectacular (unless you have the money for a laser projector), but with a decent projector and a good screen it can come pretty darn close where the immersion / wow factor takes over.

But I'm not knocking a good OLED display. They can look amazing.

It's just that I want a BIG picture, darn it! And I want it now!!

To me when I weigh in all factors, a good quality 1080 projector is the way to go, considering that my 4k Oled satisfies all cravings for 4k/hdr/Dolby Vision with perfect blacks and superb contrast. I simply use the Sony pj for the big 120" picture with decent colors and contrast, to get that "night at the movies" effect

It's just that the newer 2016 4k-ish projectors have 10 bit processing with 12 bit oversampling to get rid of most banding, rather than 8 bit (12 bit subsampling like in older models is not the same thing), more accurate wide gamut color reproduction for UHD Blu-ray, and at least HDR10.

Do they cost under $2000?
I never said tha theer are no good 4K projectors, I simly said that the cost to valu ratio is not worth it to me as a LG Oled owner.
The Sony projector was a choice for best BUDGET projector...BUDGET being the key word here. As long as we get a solid 1080 picture at 120 inches in size we are all happy in the house.
I like the fact that I have a dual receiver so that I can just simply flip from TV to projector at will, taking advantage of all my speakers amd subwoofers regardless of what device I am using.
And just to stay in topic, I love the fact that the Samsung UHD player adapts automatically to either 4K Oled and Sony projector without too much messing around with the menu settings
