another review saying the Philips was much better at displaying DVDs than the Samsung. I am hoping for advice from some people who have used

Also is there any consensus as to which is best for 4K HDR content?

FYI I will be getting a Samsung KS8000 to go with the player.
I am dealing with the same decision and just picked up the 65" KS8000. The S One seems to have issues with a lot of TV's and does not bitstream audio. I was hoping the Ps4 Pro would have UHD disc playback but does not. The Philips is made by Funai and I question their support via updates. So I think the Samaung it is.

All of that, plus the Philips just looks ridiculous

I am sure you do have gamma settings in your TV, most TVs does or how else would you have them calibrated if you opted for professional calibration? Look through the advanced settings, it must be there

rroeder is saying that his TV does not give him a gamma option, which I find strange. Most modern TVs have advanced settings where you can select gamma (2.2, 2.4)

I just gamma low, middle and high setting for my t.v. Not number.

Possible on UHD player give number setting 2.2,2.4..or -3,-2,-1,0,+1,+2,+3

I am so glad that I went ahead and got my player instead of waiting for a PS4 Pro.

There is a Gamma setting under advanced picture settings(like I said) just no Gamma 2.2 setting. I turned it up all the way didn't notice much diff tho, switching to Standard picture mode from Cinema makes more of a diff in picture brightness

I tried the Dynamic setting on some of the UHD's and didn't like the picture, but will try that on the 3D to see what I think. Honestly, as long as it's dark in my room, the 3D image is bright enough but it is a shade darker than regular bluray.

I don't watch a lot 3D tho, I own half a dozen movies, Directv has pretty good 3D selection on PPV and will watch on occasion

I always use Dynamic for 3D. I keep Oled Light at 100 as well, and maybe increase brightness by 2 clicks, depending on the movie

Default Samsung ultra bd player issues.

Hi all. Wondering if I can get input and help from others. I bought this player from Best Buy a month ago. I didn't get the Best Buy warranty. I am mostly using it for blu Rays. I have DVDs also . This week I tried 2 seperate DVDs. Retail and burned neither worked. CDs don't seem to work either. These are all listed in manual and on the box. Wondering if I just got faulty unit somehow. Maybe something under settings I can do. I called Samsung. Did reset. And a few other things. Same issue. Only choice is to mail unit to Samsung. A bit sceptical if it is worth it. Don't know what they will be doing to my machine. Don't want to get it back in worse condition. I bought it brand new.$ 318.00 . If any one else has had these issues please let me know. Not sure if it's worth it to send it in.

I am assuming it falls outside of the bestbuy return period? I think the only option is to send it to samsung and hope they fix it. It's still under factory warranty.

On a side note, the firmware is up to date right?

Default Samsung 4K player

Hi. Yes I have latest firmware. When I do put DVDs or CDs in. It is trying to read the disc and making noise. No picture pops up. This is in the main menu of the player. Ssmsung said it might be the laser that reads DVDs. Not sure how often that happens from a brand new player. Just kinda sucks. Never went through Samsung before either to get fixed. Would they send me a new machine? What if they can't fix mine ?

Was not happy I had to buy a dongle to hook up my old speakers until i step up my audio game since the tv nor the player had the old inputs. I know one of the other upcoming players does.

Don't have the room for a full setup at the moment.

Things change. Analog connections, except for amps and speakers, are pretty much dead.

Sometimes I have to wonder if it's even worth uploading the new firmwares, or just disconnect the player from internet altogether

If the unit is faulty best buy should replace it if it's only a month old, did they tell you the only option is to send to Samsung? That doesn't sound right I would ask best buy to replace the unit with a different one.

I bought a sound system from them a little over a month ago and have a problem with one of the speakers, they were completely out of stock to replace the speaker so they offered a refund so I could buy diff speakers.

My player does great with blurays, but with DVDs every once in a while the picture blacks out for 2 seconds...Not a big deal since I also use a Sony BD6500 (which is a mini-tank and handles both blurays and DVDs with perfection) but just wondering if the Samsung UHD player in general struggles more with DVDs than blurays

By the way,
should we keep Deep Color on when watching regular blurays as opposed to when playing UHD discs?
