I've read of people complaining before about the player being noisy. Mine is loud when loading and playing the beginnings of some 4k movies. Labyrinth and Mockingjay Part 1 load up so loudly that the disc tray cover actually rattles sometimes. Touching the cover stops the rattling. Then after loading for a couple of minutes, it's silent the rest of the way.
Is everyone's players loud like this on some 4k discs? |

It's going to depend on the TV and the player. Different scaling chips/software are used and some are better than others. There is also a subjective quality to it, i.e. some might sharpen artificially while others do not, and taste is a factor. I tested the upscaling on the Samsung compared to my Samsung TV and found the TV did a better job. That's my specific TV and taste though.

My Sony definitely looks better doing the upscaling, I think most TV's will do a better job compared to the player or a receiver. Why even have the upscaling feature when all 4k tv's already do it automatically? Marketing

These players need two different settings where you can pick the players resolution for BR's and then 4K BR's. This would be the best. I would think the player can detect if you put in a BR or 4K bluray.

I just got my K8500, so I'm still testing things, but maybe somebody could clarify this for me:
If I have a 4k TV (sig), and I want the TV to handle any up-scaling, than regardless of BD or UHD BD playback, shouldn't I set the K8500 resolution to 1080p? |

For 1080p discs set it to 1080p. For UHD discs set it to 2160p or auto.

I don't understand your question, if you set the player to 2160 your sending that signal and the TV is just displaying that signal not upscaling. So if your playing a bluray at the 2160 setting the player is upscaling

This really is not complicated folks. Auto chooses the highest resolution your TV accepts, it's there for dunces who don't even know what resolution is. If you want to output BDs at 1080p then you have to go in and change the res between discs. I don't know why you would bother with that since you presumably have a normal BD player. Just keep using that for BDs, like I do.
