New TV firmware update did the trick. The people at Vizio & Samsung are morons.

Vizio P series HDMI port 5 does NOT do HDR. It's meant for video games because the lag on that port is low.

Anyone else experience a loud disc drive randomly but only with certain discs? Got the new ET 4K disc and the drive revs loudly near the end of the film, then goes quiet again when the end credits begin. The problem happens every time at the same place on the disc. Thoughts?

This is the only time I've experienced this outside of a menu loading, never within a film itself. Very irritating.

the only disc that does that to me is Goodfellas yet all my other discs are fine so I know what you mean

Based on this one issue on this one disc, I'm contemplating going with another model. The ONE thing I demand of a player is that it play quietly, and this issue absolutely ruins the end of one of my favorite films. I really wish there was some sort of fix for this...

I've had some smudgy-looking areas with this player and tons of Netflix crashes/audio sync issues. Never the loud drive though. I guess we all get our points.

I'm generally pleased with the player, but look forward to upgrading in the future.

I don't get many crashes but I've also noticed audio sync issues when playing videos from a thumb drive or streaming from Amazon. Sometimes they are hardly noticeable, sometimes they get worse with playing time and sometimes there are no issues at all. I can't figure out what might cause the audio going out of sync. I have never had sync issues with Blu-rays, UHD BDs or DVDs, though. I'm generally pleased with the player, too, but right now I would only recommend it for playing discs.

I also still have the Sammy as a backup player and I too get horrible lip synching from streaming apps. The discs are fine. Sometimes, sync will drift over time and then I have to pause or stop the playback and get it back in line. Frustrating. The Roku app in my other 4k TV doesn't have this issue.

Sounds like we are all in the same boat! Not a priority financially, but I'm up in the air on springing for an oppo or getting the newer Sammy 9500. That lip sync stuff has always pissed me off.

Get the Oppo. I only occasionally stream, but the TV I have hooked up to it has 4k apps with DV support as well.

That's what I'm leaning towards; my only hesitation is the lack of apps. I'm using tv apps like you now, but have noticed drastic differences in quality on them between the tv and player.

I have this player accompanied with the SAMSUNG 8000 SUHD 4K TV.

Last night I popped in the '99 version of THE MUMMY and got 2 brief messages on my screen saying something to the effect of needing a high speed hdmi cable and also requiring a 4K TV to play back in proper resolution.

I watched the movie and it looked great but then I started wondering-- am I getting a true 4k signal?

When I click the "info" button on the remote is says "HDR" so does that mean the signal is good?

My TV settings automatically adjust to 100% contrast and full backlighting, etc which also indicates everything is good... correct?

One thing that's bothering me is that when I first got titles almost a year ago-- when I popped in a movie there was a message on the screen stating "you are watching an HDR disc" or something like that.... and I don't get that message anymore...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I bought Wonder Woman in 4K from BB, my player just spits it out and says unable to read disc? Is anyone else having this issue? 1012 is the firmware version on my k8500. Thanks for any info.

Have you tried rebooting the player? Plus do a light cleaning as well.

If it still doesn't work, you might need to exchange the movie. I think it's likely a disc issue.

I already exchanged the 4K bluray, and it still didn't work? I tried BvS and MOS and they both worked fine. I'm bummed out, I can't afford another player right now.

Wait and see if Samsung comes out with a firmware update. That could be an issue.

FWIW, WW 4K is playing perfectly on my K8500.

Every time I've had an 'unable to read disc' error an exchange worked fine (perhaps 4 discs or so). I'd exchange once more.

anyone???

Yes I'm using the right HDMI cables, yes I've done all updates.

Wondering if one of the updates is the reason why I don't get the message "you are watching an HDR disc" anymore?
