I'm the opposite. I think a front display is distracting. When I'm watching a movie, I don't want the runtime to be displayed. And most BD players wouldn't allow you to turn off the front display.

Im actually not fond of Samsung players, but it looks like they will be the only game in town until late Summer, if I had to guess. Not quite sure on Panny.

I just hope it plays back accurately, and if it does Ill prob ride it until the Oppo launches.

This is gonna be the wild west and I at least trust Oppo to output accurately and keep up with updates.

If you have Amazon Prime, they have UHD streaming like Man in the High Castle and they use HDR IIRC. My speeds suck so I cant try.

Samsung has done better in the last couple of years with their BD players, at least in my experience. I have a couple of their 2014-2015 models and they have been fast and rock solid reliable. I couldn't say that in 2013 or earlier.

My internet speeds went to 300 down/20 up last Fall so I will definitely try that out. Will anything display HDR during playback? I think I read that all Samsung units would have HDR enabled on all HDMI inputs. I noticed I was able to turn on "UHD color" for each HDMI, but I'm not sure if that's referring to HDR or not.

Agree, their 2014 and 2015 models have reviewed well and their proprietary chipset seems to do a great job. It def allowed them to get the jump on other manufacturers with their launch.

Not sure, I know the Sony's act differently once they get a UHD signal and HDR. Its obvious it's happening. On Amazon you have to hunt out the UHD version of the tv shows.

Yeah, I dropped 3 grand(minus the Ebates and eBay bucks) on a 65JS9500, so I guess I can be a guinea pig for UHD Blu-ray and preorder a few of those titles. Hell, if Best Buy is only asking 25 bucks a pop, that's a pretty safe gamble. And if I order Maze Runner and Exodus, I can even unload my Western Digital My Passport Cinema device and get some money back since those are the only UHD titles I currently have(and likely will ever own) on there.

Noticeably the digital bridge is completely absent from launch players, obviously some form of a HDD/SDD will be required for such a feature either that or a USB port to add external storage as such this Samsung player mentions nothing of the sort nor does the Panasonic. I can only hope that the digital bridge feature is not being saved for next year or much later like 3D was.

I'm with you on not being fond of Sammy players. I've decided to just be patient and wait for Oppo to release their UHD model.

Kind of makes me not want to buy one if it's going to be a feature of second gen players, much like early bd players. If only Sony came out with another PlayStation. Hmm....

I'm seriously curious about Samsung sales numbers now. How many of their curved tvs did they sell that they think its worthwhile to release the first and only UHD player designed specifically for them?

On a side note, I had the thought today that it's a bit of a sad commentary that companies are putting so much focus on a TV that is essentially geared 100% to watching by yourself. Once upon a time tv was a family or social activity primarily, and now it's getting more and more of a solo activity. Which on a societal level is a bit disheartening.

So they said that pre-orders start today. Is that on Amazon or just their website?

I totally agree Spectre.

The curved screen is total BS.

I was at Walmart helping my uncle grab a cheap Vizio M50 for his bedroom setup and they had a Samsung curved display.. Not on the wall.. More of a focal end cap type thing.

Some hick was standing there drooling over this horrible washed out jittering rendition of back to the future... A night scene.. He turns and says "one helluva picture innit!"

I was thinking... Has this guy ever seen HD?

The picture was warped.. The glare was so intense I couldn't make out any detail.. I feel like I could sell so many TVs by just putting my Panasonic ST50 in a dim room playing The Master or The Wind Rises or even Home.

Silly people.

The worst DVD player and the worst blu-ray player I have ever owned were both Samsung. Both had stuttering/skipping issues on many of the discs I'd play.

I also hate the lack of a front display. More dumbing down. All players should have a good display with an option in the menu to dim it or turn it off. How hard is that, really? Is that so much to ask?

Ship has been sailing on front displays. I too *****ed at first, now I dont even miss it.

As said before, the 14 and 15 Samsung blu players have been nice. They started out with a horrible rep.

All Samsung factory direct authorized dealers are now permitted to accept pre-orders. So if you are interested pick your favorite authorized dealer and place the order. We ordered 400 pieces and expect to be included in the 1st allotment.

Will the 1st generation players take forever to load like the 1st gen BD players?
