They probably tested it on a Sony and called it a day. Haven't heard of any issues from Sony TV owners...

Actually Samsung may not have had actual UHD discs to try. This is a brand new format (just like blu ray once was) and you are always going to have bugs in these new formats. That's where firmware updating comes in handy to fix these bugs. Everything will work out in due time. It will be other players too from different manufacturers that will have issues also. IT will take awhile to get the boat in smooth water. We got our player and some movies so we can be happy with that for now.

This never happens with DVD or standard blu ray. Just the UHD blu rays. I am watching on a Samsung JU7500 UHD TV. Anyone else having this issue? Its probably something Samsung can fix in a firmware update in the future. But it is annoying though.

I have the JS9000 and no issues noticed yet as the HDR settings take over. Not sure what's happening with so many people having problems. I've tested the movies several times and it's been flawless for me.

Maybe you have a bad HDMI cable or one that does not support 18.0Gbps?

I've noticed for Samsumg JS9000 I have firmware version 1440, but the website has version 1441 available. No OTA update is available.

Anyone know what changes are made for firmware version 1441? Maybe the issues some are having is due to firmware.

Of course Samsung will have UHD check discs (which are exact samples of the pressed discs) to try on the player. How else are they going to test to see if it works?

Should be 15 days from purchase unless you are Elite (30 days) or Elite+ (45 days). Any Best Buy will do it.

Let me see if anyone can answer this question. When watching HDR movies the picture settings will automatically change.

What are the settings that are supposed to change for HDR playback, and which settings stays the same?

I don't think anyone has answered this question yet, all that was said was settings should automatically change without defining which parameters.

The Sony FMP-X10 media player changes my settings too, but the Sammy player doesn't (I assume it's because I don't have HDR). I think the ideal (HDR) settings would be specific to each TV model?

Yes I'm assuming this is true, but let's just say there are some settings such as Dynamic Contrast, Color Space, White Balance, Black Tone are not automatically changed. Each user has their own settings that may cause the picture to look terrible after the auto HDR settings take effect right?

Maybe that's why so many people are encountering issues to picture quality. Also tag on some people nit pick more than others.

Still very early, the format hasn't even launched yet (that would be 3/1, informal that it is). It's going to take a little trial and error experimenting (not to mention a few FW updates) before people discover the right settings for them. With HDR in the mix this all gets very complicated, far more so than the transition from DVD to Blu-ray.

I have been very impressed this weekend after watching Kingsmen, most of The Martian, and a quarter of Hitman. I'm still amazed at how much difference the HDR and 4K make. And am looking forward to more titles. Especially the ones from sony that have 4K masters.

All of these posts are great and excite me for this format, but I'm still pretty keen on waiting for Sony's player. Some small quirks of this Samsung seem to be troublesome, that hopefully when Sony drops theirs they can not have as many problems.

Can't wait to rewatch Sicario and Kingsman in 4K!

The most promising initial player is the Panasonic. Looks to be more upscale than the Sammy. Potentially with Dolby Vision too.

Anyone using the Sony Model # XBR-49X850B with the K8500?

If not, I will report back tomorrow night once hooked up. Wont be using a receiver till decide to keep or not. In the meantime, will pair with a soundbar.

Also looking to be double the price of the Samsung too.

And Sony don't seem to be planning a release until at least next year, I think the Samsung is a perfect early adopter choice, no to expensive that it'll brake the bank, and capable enough to hold you over until the more advanced players hit the market.

Once I switched the HDMI on my 850C to enhanced all of my issues were remedied. Picture is stunning. I'm currently 5½ft away.

Is it safe to run tv at max brightness and max contrast for the movies? Seems like a bad idea in general to me.
