Default Is Chappie really as bad as I've heard?

Haven't seen it yet obviously, but with pourous reviews I passed on seeing it in the theater. I've seen all the other Sony titles, but only picked up Amazing Spiderman 2 ( I know this wasn't a great movie, but at least I had already seen it). So far hearing the PQ of Chappie is pretty stellar so far.

Mine should be here today. I'm psyched! Was able to snag one of the Best Buy open box items for 369.99!

I liked chappie. It's similar to ex machina. Looks great too.

So far I'm heading Spider-Man 2 is a let down. I have ever the hdr version on amazon. And I agree. Nothing 2 gloat about.

I am awaiting the full reviews of Chappie here and on AVS- that will decide for me if I am going full in on UHD-BD or not. As of now, it is sounding like the differences with BD are tough to determine and/or based on perception alone, which means it may be a disappointing niche, especially on projectors (again, based on feedback on here and AVS).

Everyone so far is happy with chappie.

I watched it and it looked great. I'd put the martian and kingsman very close to it.

The lionsgate movies will also create buzz. Hitting shelves today.

Salt, Chappie, & Spidey 2 are all waiting for me tonight when I get home. I'm really excited to see Chappie because I haven't seen it yet & I love Blomkamp's visual style. Salt should be interesting since it's a little older title so I'm curious how that will hold up.

Just got an order update for Amazon. It stated that my expected delivery date is 3/2. I placed my order on 1/8. I'm guessing that Amazon either has started to receive inventory or at least has tracking info against their open P.O.'s

Thoughts:

It looks pretty good overall. Always been a fan of how sony movies look.

But in no way would I say it blows away the martian or kingsman. There are many scenes in both the martian and kingsman that look just as good as the scenes in chappie. The difference being that the martian has a few more scenes that look lower than 4k quality, as did chappie but not as many. I would say that chappie is more consistent with their truer 4k scenes but the martian has more wow.

I will say that I thought the motion was very good on chappie, better than most of the fox titles. Hitman 47 has aweful motion artifacting.
Thanks for confirming to us that you are visually impaired, because even though Chappie is a shitty movie, at least it is a genuinely native 4K presentation. An upscale will NEVER EVER look better than a native 4K release.

I wish someone would send me one of these players so I can take some HDMI screenshots for compare with the Blu-ray release and we could settle this definitively. I cannot for the life of me get my hands on one of these ****ing things; Best Buy is in a perpetual state of "sold out" and Amazon hasn't said shit about my pre-order. I have no idea how the hell people are actually managing to snag these players.

Here's the Sony Video Unlimited 4K version of Chappie compared to the Blu-ray:

Then you're going to have to call the reviewers at bluray.com and the other website along with dozens of people who have actually seen these as visually impaired.

What u and your buddies refuse to acknowledge is that they go back to raw files, which is how you get your bump in resolution.

Someof these look better than others, but the martian and kingsman are clear winners among the 2k crowd.

The video is re-encoded and they are jpg's
Plus his opinions are no less valid than any reviewer its all one persons opinion
No matter how flawed the basis for his argument is its all just someones view of something

Yes, but in order to have a true opinion, it helps to have VIEWED IT.
Otherwise it's more assumption than opinion.

The reviewer is reporting what he's seeing. Big difference from someone that has NOT seen it.
