Anyone who has purchased one of these know if they feature a universal power supply?

Hey, Ray. Are you going with Dynamic or Standard for the Picture setting under Tools for the K8500? I switched to RBG enhanced and found the Lions Gate and WB titles looked much better(especially Ender's Game), but I also switched over to Dynamic since the colors still looked too muted or different under Standard.

Default K8500 message

Ok, Yesterday played Sicario on my Samsung UN65HU8700 with the k8500 4k player and as previous people have mentioned they received a message stating "This content will be played in HD because the display or the HDMI input port does not support HDCP 2.0. Change the display or HDMI input and try again". I did turn on the UHD HDMI color on the tv and turned on RGB enhanced on the k8500. The message still appeared in the beginning of playback. So am I seeing this in 4k or is it just HD? Don't know if sicario is a film I should compare to. I do have The Martian being delivered today. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the sek3500 upgrade box?

If you dont, only 1 of your ports has hdcp, and I forget which one.

I use the user mode and I have color and contrast bumped up so it's similar to dynamic.

I did a bunch of testing last night.

Usually prefer the more vibrant colors of uhd hdmi color off on the tv, uhd color on tones them down a tad but rgb enhanced brings most of the color back but not all.

I tried every port and the message still appears, never heard of a upgrade box. Appreciate your time.

I'm starting to warm up to the boosted colors of Dynamic mode. I'm already defaulting to that for WB and Lions Gate titles because the colors are so muted(by now, you've seen my screenshots for Mad Max in Standard vs. Dynamic). But I watched a little of Scorch Trials again last night in Dynamic and damn did that movie pop in that mode. Kingsman also looked even better as well. The only one I tested where it's maybe a little too hot in Dynamic is Amazing Spider-Man 2. The skin tones were a little too reddish.

So right now I've got:

On the Samsung 65JS9500:
UHD Color On

On the Samsung K8500:
Deep Color Off
RGB Enhanced
Dynamic Picture Mode

I'll play around with the rest of the titles and see how they look with these settings. Plus I need to sample some Blu-rays and find out if those suffer at all or if they still retain their usual appearance(plus 4K upscaling of course).

The sek-3500 will give you a new chip that has hdr decoding and also brings the new operating system and stronger processor. Definitely worth looking into.

Yep, the added pop is like what you get using dynamic contrast. It also improves textures. It helps widen that gap between these versions and 1080p blu ray. Alot more life to the image.

I'll have to revise my comments about Mad Max, Lego Movie, and Ender's Game. Those all look fantastic with these adjusted settings(and that hazy look magically disappearing somehow with Ender's Game).

I still have some issues with the colors on Expendables 3 even in Dynamic mode, but it does look much better with the updated settings. I imagine Exodus will too(I'll test it tonight). That UHD transfer is very dark compared to the Blu-ray.

Brighter
More vibrant

Also opens up hdmi black level setting on your tv, which adjusted can alleviate the black crush that alot of people have ever reported.

Feel free to experiment.
I'll do my own experimenting whenever I get to buy the hardware, but so far I find it funny that "Deep color" should be off according to most people. It seems kind of anti-intuitive, considering what this format is about. Is there any informed explanation for that? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding that setting.

Deep Color as mentioned in the player was a never used feature of regular Blu-ray. Keep it OFF.

Some got a new Samsung SUHD 2015 model firmware update (these updates are made available in waves) and that solved the UHD Color issue with banding... so now you want it left ON.

They seem to have them in stock and they have a 11% off discount code which drops $44 off the price with free shipping.

I picked up a unit for $375 and that is after tax.
Thanks, but what's the code??

They are pretty big back east, nothing out pass the Mississippi I believe. I've never ordered from them but I'm sure others can vouch for them.

I do not have an HDR TV so maybe that's making a difference buy Dynamic picture mode setting on the player makes the picture atrocious. So much clipped whites.

I was getting the same message as you when a 4K movie started. I fixed this problem by going to the "settings" on the K8500 4K player and enabling "BD Wise". I also enabled BD Wise Resolution. I ran my HDMI cable from the K8500 to my Yamaha receiver to the HDCP 2.2 port which was HDMI port #6. I then hooked up another HDMI cable from the HDMI output HDCP 2.2 port on the receiver to the HDCP (ARC) HDMI #4 port on my Samsung's Series 7 7100 break out box.

Since it seems you don't have a receiver hooked in line between your 4K player to your TV, just try to move your HDMI cable from your 4K player to different ports on the TV and try enabling BD Wise in the "Settings" box located on the lower right of your opening screen on the 4K player. See if that makes that dreaded message go away when you boot up a disk.
