I had to wear earplugs when getting in a pool or anything. These days I don't, but I remember the earplugs thing well. Not fun. I don't think I can prevent further ear damage. I like my movies and music too much. I don't see how these musicians do it night after night on stage with all that loud music. Especially if it's really loud music like grunge or glam. or god forbid metal.

Dr. J had said through tests that my hearing loss looks more like it was caused by virus/flu at some point in my life versus purely acoustic damage which was interesting to me. But, I do watch loud levels and don't allow peaks in my audio to hit past 95-100 db for a two hour movie.

I've about given up on watching loud levels. I'm not as bad as I used to be in my twenties, but I still crank 'er. I enjoy it too much not to.

Not worth it at all. I would spend the money on discs. Technicolor preset on C8 is already more accurate than anything a third rate technician will do for you. It’s just not worth obsessing over minor adjustments.

Good HDR settings I recommend:

Energy Saving Off
Screen Shift On
HDMI Ultra HD On
Eye Comfort Off
Just Scan On
Aspect Ratio Original
Technicolor Expert User
OLED Light 100
Contrast 90 (I run 100)
Brightness 50 (I run 49)
Sharpness 0
Color 50 (I run 60-70)
Tint 0
Dynamic Contrast Off
Dynamic Tone Mapping On
Super Resolution Off
Color Gamut Wide
Color Temperature Warm2 (I run Warm3)
Noise Reduction Off
MPEG Noise Reduction Off
Black Level Low
Motion Eye Care Off
TruMotion Off

The levels I can just gauge by ear at this point. I pretty much know when it's too loud. As someone once said, if you have to raise your voice so that the person next to you can hear you, the environment is probably too loud. Almost anyone who has had intrusive Tinnitus fears it getting worse or perceptually louder. My T also varies; on some days it's very quiet where as other days I can easily hear it in the shower if I listen for it.

AFAIK Colour Gamut should be set to AUTO on LG OLEDs, not wide.

It doesn’t matter for UHD. It’s a misconception. Either setting will work the same, I leave it on Wide. But it’s fun to set it to Wide for SDR content, such as LD. It makes it look so beautiful. I can’t ever remember LDs looking better than they do on an OLED.

So you're drastically oversaturating the colour gamut AND cranking colour up to 60-70 as well? Holy shit. That's literally why matey's comparisons on youtube look so similar to what you're seeing because he's doing the same thing, putting the UHD into completely the wrong gamut.

Wide is also the preferable one for using an external 3D LUT.

Yes because you're letting the LUT box handle the mapping. Otherwise I heard that 'wide' forces the widest gamut onto the content, thus shifting the colourimetry of the primaries and secondaries, green in particular which occupies a very different co-ordinate in 2020 than it does in P3 inside 2020 as per UHD encoding.

For LDs you’re correct. For HDR, Wide is the correct gamut, or auto. Color up to 60-70 is my personal preference. I go for a high contrast highly saturated 35mm look and ignore doing things by the book. So sue me matey. If I wanted a miserable washed out look, I’d get an LCD.

I just meant in SDR, wide is more native essentially and doesn't have some of the 'anomalies' that normal does in the tinting. I am looking forward to having a rec2020/hdr box when the price is right.

Normal has been the correct colour gamut for HDR for as long as I remember, initially some people thought you had to switch to Wide, but that was a misconception, if you're after content intent accuracy Normal it is.

There’s no such thing as Normal. My posted setting and conversation is in regards to C8. Auto or Wide is exactly the same for UHD. But Wide gets interesting for SDR... There’s also the extended setting, which is incorrect for UHD.

I can't exactly recall. I was kind of drunk at a house party.

I would think the bass would not be amplified unless it were in a corner — low frequencies are generally non-directional. But this set-up might make the imaging a bit wider for mid/higher frequencies.

Regarding pro video calibration: you've never been more wrong. you must stop handing out bad info to members who are seeking genuine, informed views.

"third rate technician"

This logical fallacy furthers the point. You have to presume that members here are incapable of identifying a proven professional in order to drive home your point. I can tell you factually the the couple guys in the States I'd recommend are world class within the profession.

You need to stop what you're doing all over this forum. Sincerely.
