Why don't places like AVS allow price discussions? Always found that a bit weird.

Competing dealers that advertise on there. However, AVScience (who sells products) and the AVS forum are two different entities as well. They split off some time ago.

Ah right, da dealers. But there's no such trade sponsorship etc on here that I'm aware of. Indeed, Robert Zohn merrily flaunts his wares in the 4K tech forum AFAIK.

Not sure what the rules are or if one can pay to do such here.

Yes we can mention prices; blu-ray forum is liberated.

Thx for the PM. The prices for all the projectors are all over the internet; I was just curious about the underground prices (taboos controlled by the dark forces). And from what you PMed me, yes they are inline with what everyone can find easily online. The small differences would be on shipping, extra bulb, ...stuff like that. ...And @ most a roughly less than 10% difference.

The most important thing is an authorized dealer. With JVC we have to be prudent; read JVC's own website warnings on this.

Not long ago I revisited 'Unforgiven' on Blu. Awesome film with simplicity of classic cinema; Eastwood and company @ their best.
When William learned of his friend Ned's death @ the hands of Little Bill, William takes few shots from the whiskey bottle; that's when the film starts!
Sure, there was English Bob before that, but it ain't nothin' compared to what Litlle Bill's town has it comin'.
A master act. "I was lucky in the order, but I've always been lucky when it comes to killin' folks."

I would love to get the new remastered Blu, but I'll wait till it goes on sale. And I don't mind @ all getting the 4K version with it; I've already started building a 4K Blu-ray library...slowly but surely. And when the 3D Blu-ray version only comes with the 4K package; if the film is in my periscope I'll get it (I got few already from that 'flavor').

Curious reply to me. I've been a forum member for 10 years, so what's your point? No, I have not read up on the rules regarding pricing and frankly never cared to. So I sent a PM and kept it safe.

If you want to save a few dollars ordering from an online internet dealer, go for it. However, if you get a crappy lens sample, stuck pixel, or bad convergence, even most authorized dealers are going to telling you to live with it or take it up with JVC and good luck with that as they will say it's within spec. For example, JVC will only replace a panel under warranty if it has 3 or more stuck pixels.

I rather pay a little extra even if it comes down to it as I've run into such matters before, but that's just me and AV Science has helped me out a lot before with issues. Customer service matters a lot to me with projectors, but that's just me.

It seems Unforgiven is getting strong reviews and worth the $$ (have it and agree) but Goodfellas was more mixed, at least here. Is that because the GF 25th BD was that good (I have the 25th of Goodfellas) and the previous Unforgiven was kinda "heh" to begin with so naturally the new Unforgiven is the better leap in quality? If someone could tell me the 4k of GF is every bit on par as the upgrade quality we're seeing with Unforgiven then maybe I'll grab it too now. Or maybe it's more subtle and not quite as noticeable as Unforgiven, etc. Thanks in advance.
To my eyes, Goodfellas is nowhere near the upgrade to UHD as Unforgiven is. Also the grain is very heavy in many scenes in GF, which makes any increase in detail less noticeable (in fact the extra grain IS the most noticeable difference). But if you a fan of the movie then I would pick it up if you can get it at a 'catalog' price (under $20), because in spite of the grain it is an overall improvement (just not nearly as much as Unforgiven).

I was simply surprised that you asked about prices, because the things we talked the most @ blu-ray.com forum are Blu-ray movies (1080p, 3D and 4K) and prices and Steelbooks. ...And some audio/video gear...mostly affordable stuff, with prices always mentioned for the best deals. That's all, there was nothing else meant by it.

I agree with you; it's a crazy world out there, it's best to deal with trusty sources with solid warranties. I don't mind paying extra with my block-and-mortar video dealer.

Agreed. No fancy HDR pushing or contrast boosting, no extra sharpening, just natural as hell 4K remaster. Fantastic job

Thanks for the thread edits, mod.

Ironic how some people's behavior since I first saw this picture has helped me understand William Munny's renunciation of his prior disavowal of violence.

I checked a few scenes out and this is one beautiful looking transfer. I also checked out the remastered blu-ray disc and was surprised how much better the UHD looked. Looking forward to watching this one!

Watched it last night and wow, great looking UHD! Colors and detail are fantastic. I don't get the complaints that it's dark. It was only dark where it needed to be dark (shadows, low lit areas, inside the house with hardly any lighting, etc) but the detail was still there.

How does dynamic contrast adversely effect the pic because when set to high it improves the shadow details on dark scenes on oled65g6p

Just received my Zavvi pre-order.

Really dig the thick UK version of the 4K case, plus this is also my first foreign 4K release (Split will be foreign 4K UHD #2).

Overall, I think getting this was much cooler than getting the domestic 4K release (and more affordable too).
