That's something you'd think more colleges would help students with but I'm guessing most colleges care more about lining their pockets than helping students succeed after they graduate.

A few professors will go out of their way (sometimes) to help you, but most colleges don't care and just want money. That's why core curriculum exists, when really it makes no sense at all. College courses should be a buffet of choices for new students to explore different programs, but you have to declare a major to take most classes outside the core. That means if you find out after a semester or two that something isn't for you and you have an interest in something else, you have to change your major and basically start over. The whole "figure out what you want to do with your life" at college talk is complete nonsense. You have to figure out your life's goals before college. Otherwise, it's going to be a lot of money wasted.

I really really want a typical office job that will have me contemplating suicide in five years. That's why I'm going to college. The American dream, yeah baby!

![]() It's crazy how people still think that if you weren't lucky enough to attend university that you're doomed for a low-paying failure of a life. At first, I felt badly about not being able to attend (a perfect storm of... a broken scholarship / financial aid system despite being at the top of my class every single year of my life and having a family that made very little money... getting sick to where there was a year of my life with so many near-death experiences and close calls... family all getting very sick and so I stayed to care for all of them... and a few other factors), but then I realized that I'm also lucky in a way. At least I'm not miserable like some unfortunately are, having to pay off ridiculous student loans for the rest of my life, etc. Since I left high school, I've been working and haven't stopped. For many years, I actually owned my own business and had some very well-paying contracts, too. Didn't need college for any of the jobs that I've had. And ultimately, I just feel blessed to have a job and be working. I'll never understand anyone who looks down on someone because of their job. All kinds of work needs to be done, and if someone is able to work and works, that deserves respect. College isn't right for everyone, but sadly, you'll never hear that truth during your school years. It's always, "Go to college or you're a failure!" Not to be mean, but many of the kids I went to school with... they definitely weren't going to college. And many of them didn't. Hell, it was a miracle if they didn't end up in prison, sadly. Anyway, Army... thanks for saying that, and I'm happy that you and your wife are doing well with your occupations. You two are a good-looking couple, by the way. I saw your photo that you shared. Was Bruce as cool as he seems? ![]() Quote:
![]() As for me, I'm just checking some things on the computer. I've not been feeling well for the past week or so (well, I'm never 100%, but still), and I'm just trying to get through each day as best I can. I did get some good news today, though: the test results came back from my mother's surgery and they didn't find cancer in what they removed! ![]() She just has a bit of an infection, but we've been going daily for treatments and checkups for the area they operated on, and she's been healing alright. I'm also making sure she's eating well and taking her antibiotics on time. So glad that those results came back with good news! ![]() |
