I haven't watched any sporting event at home in years. Not since I cut the cord entirely. I don't have any way to watch any of that stuff. The only service I have is Amazon Prime. And i generally only use it for the shipping.

That's what Spectrum cable was in my area for just a basic package without add-ons before I decided to jump ship some years ago.

Otherwise, last I checked, streaming TV packages (cable companies offering streaming exempted) generally tend to run $65-$85, and my understanding is they don't go upward of $200 after a year like the streaming alternatives from cable companies. Still way cheaper than cable, even after adding several streaming services.

Does that include all the streaming services (NetFlix, Disney+, Peacock, etc.)? If not, that will definitely raise the prices up. I'm also wondering if anyone needs a streaming TV package like Youtube TV, for example? If you've got a smart TV and internet, couldn't you use that as your starting point? My sister has YouTube TV and it seems like it does the same things as a Smart TV. The only thing a smart TV cannot do, that I am aware of anyway, is access live TV or TV channels. Like TBS or CBS. I think we are going to get to the point, and someday soon, we we don't even need cable or streaming TV packages. Our TVs will be able to do all of that. IF or when that ever happens, physical media may become more niche than it already is. Nothing will kill it though. Hell, new release 8-Tracks are still being put out. I just saw one on Discogs the other day. I think it was for a Powderfinger release.

Wear your glasses dude. We aren't young anymore.

Really though, I don't mind paying for some type of service since we do watch specific channels that require service. I just don't want to pay the price that DTV went up to, especially now that their streaming service picture quality looks like garbage.

I will only pay for additional channels that offer Dolby Atmos options. And yes, I will pay a bit more for it too (i.e. HBO (hate the "Max" name)).

At least they changed it back from "Max" to "HBO Max" but I think HBO Go was their best name. They really need to hire someone with better branding strategies.

Atmos is a nice to have, but I'm a big fan of Auro3D up-mixing so that more than gets me by for non Atmos encoded films on streaming. But I gotta say, the vanilla DD+ with YouTube TV far outshines what seems to be lower bitrate 128k mp3 audio crap from DirecTV. I even get active surround effect from commercials with YTTV. Unlike DTV, everything sounds like live/active stereo --> multi-channel encoding or some kind of up-mixing by comparison.

Yeah that prior branding was annoying. My son's name is Max, and every time I got an email from the service with what to watch next, at first glance of the subject I would always think my son was sending me his recommended shows/movies lol.

your lucky being a direct tv streaming having espn unlimited right now satellite folks have to wait according to this unless change

https://www.directv.com/support/article/000115551
Most Satellite customers with a Signature Package will get an activation email before the end of November 2025. which is crap

'm still waiting see if my theater might get that wwe ppv sat but i doubt it seems i may just have to buy espn unlimited stand alone from espn website so i can watch ppv sat 29.99 meh

i move away from disney plus hulu espn select premium 2 weeks ago since espn select can't get wwe ppv's only espn unlimited i went down lower tier disney plus hulu premium no ads 19.99 because i didn't want to do the 12 months bundle with ads and the one with no ads<-that one cost alot

i don't know it will be 2 months i have to start paying espn unlimited<-will make do this i guess tomorrow and then i can cancel then use direct tv as my tv provider espn unlimited so i can watch survivor series ppv

but direct tv satellite i bet they won't even have it until then prob dec or jan see what happens meh

i always thought about paying max app doing ultimate plan for atmos but signed into direct tv for it and don't really care anymore since i can dvr some movies on direct tv satelite don't need to watch on app

I'm not a fan of ESPN so it doesn't matter that I'll lose it with dumping DirecTV stream.

I saw the email for D+/Hulu/ESPN package that is now included at no extra charge with my current plan. That was enticing, but knowing DTV, that's almost certainly introductory and they'll start charging for it eventually.

But in the end the DTV streaming picture quality has gotten so bad, that alone isn't worth the $200 price tag. I have 500 Mbps FiOS and speed test often has my download speed well above that, both on WiFi 6 and ethernet (although all my devices are wired). DTV's video/audio is not worth the price tag when other streaming TV services I've tried (YTTV, Hulu, Fubo) have significantly better PQ and are $100+ cheaper.

I’m still rocking old school DirecTV by satellite.

I'd probably still be with them if they still had Sunday Ticket. That would have been heaven being that DTV also added SportsNet LA in my area a couple of years ago.

don't have youtube live or hulu live i thought that can do both stream and satellite seems don't

long time ago i thought after direct tv no longer have after i think a month after 1st change or so when hbo max came along now max at the time was have no ads 4k atmos then went back to ads no 4k or attmos i was going to do ultimate which now premium pay myself and don't log into direct tv

but then i decided not since i can dvr direct tv satellite on those hbo/ max channels if i want to except original shows like peacemaker<-it saying atmos 4k but i don't mind watching 4k atmos at all same goes paramout plus i signed into direct tv

it seems paramount plus however they have 4k atmos even when you sign into direct tv unlike max seems bit odd oh well
