Oh man, Neil Young, ZZ Top, etc.
I truly feel sorry for my neighbors in the coming months as I turn up da volume on all the music Blu-rays.
I thought Neil Young was anounced quite a while ago. at least on his site for the Archive project it was mentioned that it would be coming out in BD. There can not be enough concert and music releases on BD for me and this one is great. Do you have any idea how long it may take for part 2 of the Archives to release? Think is is possible in 2009 or probably a long wait given how particular N Young has been find a format that he felt suitable for his material.

Say…………………May 19.
T.E. Lawrence died on May 19th, 1935. And Bigfoot is apparently some kind of scanner used for 70mm prints. I don't remember, has LOA been ruled out?

Okay, my last guess is Fantasia. 70th Anniversary is in 2 years which coincides with the 1-2 year timeline given by Penton and David Keighley Productions (DKP 70mm Inc.) is a subsidary of IMAX who were involved with Fantasia 2000.

The May 19th angle had me stumped... Penton also said he prefers the output from a NorthLight scanner to that of Imagica's Bigfoot scanner.

That’s correct but, I wouldn’t quite think of it in that fashion.

Remember my original post said that this title had ascended to the top of the heap for digital archival purposes as it was due for some sort of updated digital file(s) by the Asset Management Dept. Those people are essentially mandated to deal with classics only and with all due respect to Bigfoot or Harry and the Hendersons, I don’t think they qualify as classics to those people.

In addition, when Asset Management decides what film to work on, they consider the cultural, historical and economical merits of the film in question. For example, a full blown digital restoration with all the trimmings was done on Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove several years back as it was due also; however, I sincerely doubt that sales from the resultant DVD knocked the socks off of anyone in the home entertainment division.

There may or may not already be a superb videomaster of the title in question already in the studio’s library but, I see no downside to this grander project in terms of an eventual Blu-ray edition……….other than perhaps if the studio decided to double-dip for some marketing reason and some faithful Blu-ray collectors got perturbed.

Rob won't be here for a while. He just fell off his chair after reading Penton's posts and is quietly shaking under his desk hoping this isn't a dream, like the last 30 times.

Wow...this is very exciting news. For the studios, I imagine LOA will be a very interesting test of the market in a year or two with all the extra potential Blu-Ray purchasers.
