The one thing that struck me about Ghostbusters on BD was the distinct lack of grain during many of the opticals, usually it's the other way around! The effects were mostly shot on 65mm and printed down to 35mm, which is why they look so much better than the native anamorphic footage.

Hopefully they've tamed the contrast and colour saturation on the new transfer, IMO both of these things were liable for exacerbating the grain on the BD. I saw the movie projected at 2K at the BFI IMAX a couple of years ago, and it didn't look like the overcooked blown-out home video version; it looked like a pristine 35mm print. Even on the giant IMAX screen it still had less visible grain than the Blu-ray, and I couldn't spot the garbage mattes around the terror dogs either. Fingers crossed for a similar experience with the new transfer...

Yeah I heard that a 4K master was created for Skyfall, but when true 4K masters arrive it will look pretty weak next to it. Hell it was even given the IMAX treatment.

The Amazing Spider-Man should look amazing as it was all done at 4K unlike Spider-Man 3. Maybe the film won't look as dark and might have more color with this new 4K Master Series.

It was a successful niche. It was never meant for the masses - VHS was for that.

If there is a ever a 4K disc format (I can only hope) it too will be a niche although broader than LD but still not like BD.

A 4K disc would probably be $40 or $50 a movie. I don't even want to think of how much a TV show would be....

Aren't many new and recent TV shows shot in 2K anyway?

That movie finished in a 2k DI.

It's actually the first 4K DI, I believe. The effects shots were done at 2K however.
Given how it looks though, it's possible the HD transfer was not made from the DI, but from a filmout. That was the case for some early DI films, where doing it from film rather than the DI fit into existing workflows better. I don't have the disc but if there are black dust specs or telecine wobble on it (it's been years since I rented it and I wasn't looking) it's not from the DI.

There was a article a few weeks back saying a few shows were getting the 4K treatment Breaking Bad was one of them, I can't remember the rest.

Incorrect. It was the first 4K DI that E-Film ever did. I remember it being a big deal.

Taken from the OP. They're just from 4k masters, and just regular 1080p resolution. Hopefully people don't think these are actually at 4k resolution... I don't expect the prices to be any different than regular blu-rays, either.

If anything they should have much better color.

The colorspace for UHD is much larger than HD.
