At least posting in your own thread should not be a tour of duty, we are not that annoying after all, or are we ?

In any case I was away from the thread for a few days and wanted to thank you for that great post that shows the production pipeline for a recent Super 35 scope production in 4k - very interesting

Regarding other threads that can be very frustrating sometimes: Just don't visit them, there is enough entertainment in your own threads and the members that post here really appreciate to get a glimpse or two of insight from a studio insider.

Also a long time lurker here since the very early days and your posts have been VERY much appreciated Penton.

I know that there are many more of us who enjoy and value your posts than there are those who have nothing better to do than bicker and not do basic searches on here.

What we need is a poll so people can show their appreciation with a simple vote.

Good luck with your endeavors and future plans both business and personal.

I believe this is a proverbial case of bad apples; once the drama of their cause subsides, they will too.

I have really enjoyed your thread, and have learned more than I ever wanted to know from your knowledge. Thank you doesn’t seem enough compensation for all the time you have volunteered to Blu-ray.com. You will leave a huge void in this site if it is farewell; I hope your discouragement wanes in time.
Well said and wholeheartedly agree with...

From the dark days of the format war to your interactions with the willdlife (four-legged and two-legged) your posts have always been one of my favorite readings on the web. This site wouldn't be what it is without the dedication, time, and efforts of yourself, the other Insiders, the Blu-ray.com staff, and the community as a whole to make it happen.

Very true.

Penton, please don't let the ignoramuses win. It would be our loss.

Mods, If you see people jabbing with Penton on a regular basis, why can we not get some "banning" going on. I am not saying that we all ways need to agree with Penton, but most of the time he is right.....

Penton, you are too valuable to this forum to let the losers get to you.

Thanks for all of you input.

Penton's latest post is a perfect example of why I love this thread, this site, and it's contributors. My buddy and I were just discusing 'Fringe' and I was talking about how amazing it looked even on cable television. I think they've done a fantastic job on it both in the PQ and AQ department.

We were trying to figure out what they were filming 'Fringe' on as I was sure it was film but honestly didn't think they would use that due to costs, and here I have merely to browse the thread to find Penton has posted that it's 35mm!

Hope you stick around, at least in your own thread.

This thread and The Digital Bits thread are pretty much the only threads I read on the forum. If something is referred to on one of these threads, such as the Gladiator Blu-ray, then I may look at the thread in question. I kept up with the Gladiator thread for a few pages before giving up.

Penton-Man, my view is you should just ignore what is said everywhere else, I'm sure that is what a lot of the rest of us do, and if you enjoy what happens in your own thread, sharing some insights and promoting greater understanding of the issues in bringing Blu-ray Discs to market, keep it up. Just don't get too upset by things like screenshots on avs, personally the only time I've looked on there has been when there have been links posted here.

Thumbs up Pentonal-harassment?

Is somebody screwing w/ our beloved Penton over here? I probably shouldn't say this, but I do have family in Chicago who specialize in dealing w/ this sort of thing. Besides, where am I gonna get links to all those You Tube videos?

Penton, after you left, I packed up and bid farewell. But my great friends here showed me through their incredible support, that it's important to stay, and not let the others win! So, I'm here! I am asking you to do the same. Come back. D.

...good lord, I leave for 10 days to attend the Toronto Film Festival and you guys drive Penton away? WTF?

P, that post above where you gave the tech porn regarding the 4k master is indeed lovely.

This festival was the year that I actually got annoyed with film projection over digital, freakishly. For the most part, TIFF shows pristine prints, but there were a few (like last night's Ong Bak 2) that, while awesome to see on big screen, were marred by scratches (or in the case of OB2, anti-piracy scratched in codes - cheaper than the red dots, I guess).

Seeing Haneke's "White Ribbon", shot in B&W digital and projected with a 2K was excellent, but the mind blowing moment was seeing the (extraordinary) doc by Don Hahn, "Waking Sleeping Beauty", in AMC7 at Yonge/Dundas. It's been fitted with what you lot call "Digital Imax" (they don't have the balls to do that here, in the home of that format) - a 4K Sony blasting out ungodly amount of lumens on a pristine screen. The clips from the recent remastering were projected in just jaw dropping clarity (Lion King, Little Mermaid, etc.) The CGI ballroom scene of "Beauty and the Beast" made me gasp.

There was lots to see at the fest (still getting all my writing done) but wanted to drop in and see what was new. Penton, if you're annoyed by the posters elsewhere in this forum, just do what I do - only come here, to this secon of blu-ray.com, where the conversation in civil, and there's space for respectful disagreements from passionate fans of film, rather than simply off-the-cuff remarks from either sycophants or fanboy contrarians.

And, I kid you not, out of the almost 50 films I saw in the last 10 days, "Whip It" was one of the best. Mark my words...

Penton,

Now we get more "Latina" CZJ in HD on December 1? How lucky are we to have Sophie and now CZJ in a 3 month span.

Thank "the geek" for me too, as I've been asking for this one for a little while now.

If you have in fact left, thank you for the time you've given. I really appreciate the feedback and insights this thread in particular have yielded. I know firsthand how incredibly busy it can be working in any aspect of the film industry, and providing time and effort to home theater enthusiasts is not part of the job requirement.

It is frustrating how little regard people have for one another in forumspace sometimes. The Kanye/Serena/Wilson effect has been in full force on the internet for some time as people hide behind keyboard identities. Largely this forum has been a much nicer place than some of the legacy home theater forums in terms of polite discourse, but of course it's not immune from problems.

Again, thank you, and I hope life treats you well

FYI: Not sure if this will reach folks in time, but Amazon has lowered the price on Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 2 (Blu-ray) to $60 (54% off), which is actually lower than their price on season 1.

Interestingly, Amazon has not been selling season 1 for a week, with a notice that buyers are reporting problems. No idea what that is about.

They're pricematching Best Buy, as they usually do on advertised sales. Another reason why I love shopping at Amazon.

I have sent Penton an off-site pledge to come back to the site. For people with poor reading comprehension I repeat the following text that all insider threads starts with:
Quote:
This thread is dedicated to asking questions of industry insider "Penton-Man" (Hollywood insider) who has graciously taken the time to participate here. Penton-Man and all our insiders do this out of their free time and to try to keep us informed to their best abilities, and therefore are to be treated with respect and courtesy.
This should also be common sense, we are all privileged for having insiders here sharing their information. The next time anyone is disrespectful towards any insider, that person is out, that goes for everyone, members, moderators and staff, me included.

Thanks to everyone for the very kind words.
I didn't realize there were so many *sympaticos* (< is that the correct spelling....Deci? Erika?)

P.S.
mark atony, I promised a few weeks ago to get back to you and admittedly I completely forgot.
So, I’ve PM’ed you the info about Leon to aid in your purchasing decision; however, as this is somewhat confidential information please do not disseminate.

Geez Ice, and I was just beginning to enjoy my time away from “the forum” as I guess I never really realized actually how time-consuming it can be to post here….. until all that posting time is *freed up* for me to do something else with.

Let me at least take a vacation, o.k.?
In the meantime, while I’m on sabbatical, I’ll strongly consider your sincere request and monitor the overall tone of the forum.

Very good

In the meantime, I sincerely hope that those on the other end will strongly consider what Iceman has written above.
