He's asking about bit-depth and sample rate, not the meanigless "bitrate" of the Lossless stream.

oh and what is the consensus on the best sounding DTS-MA Disc out there... Shoot Em Up?, LFODH?... ID4, I Robot?... Ect...

Personally, Sunshine and Shoot em Up are at the top of my demos for tonight.

The big thing I noticed is bitrate peaks are in direct proportion to what is going on during audio, which makes sense!
When there is not much to stress sound, you can drop down to 3.0 or so, but during action scenes, or scenes where there is a lot going on, it goes nuts!

And Pan has moments where you are almost looking around the room in amazment wondering if you are really hearing what you are hearing.
The incredible part is, you are!
I saw in the scene with the Pale Man, the meter peak at 7.3mbps. DTS-MA is a revelation with this movie because that particular never astounded me until now. The bass is booming, but clean, and the Pale Man's subtle growl is chilling.

I also love the scene where Ofelia is being greeted by the king, queen and people. The people's clapping now feels real and full.

Thanks folks.

I updated today and didn't see the DTS-MA in the menu.

It honestly didn't take much searching on this site...ha ha..I think it's the biggest thread this month.

Anyway...I found it...

Thank you all.

I just re-watched F4 : Rise of the Silver Surfer on DTS-MA on my PS3. The sound comes across as more crisp and detail, esp the music score. But compare to the previous "DTS Core" it's not like the day and night difference that I experienced between DVD's Dolby Digital and TrueHD. That says more about the competency of the DTS-Core soundtrack. But nevertheless, it is definitely a audible improvement.

I check the rate meter display periodically and the audio rarely goes beyond 6MPs

Its that simple. If you are dying to see "DTS HD Master Audio" light up on your receiver, you will need to purchase a stand alone blu-ray player that bitstreams all the codecs. PS3 can never do that, it uses HDMI 1.3, not HDMI 1.3a which is needed for bitstreaming. PS3 can do deep color however.

Hope that helps.
Why can't I see "Multi-Channel PCM" at all? I have a PS3 and Onkyo 805 with HDMI. The Audio Select is HDMI and Analog. When I select different listening modes, no Multi-Channel PCM ever appears...Anyone wanna help?

Regardless if you have the old HDMI receiver that can accept multichannel PCM or if you have the new HDMI receiver with DTS HDMA decoding, this is how the PS3 works with your receiver.

Set the BD audio output to Linear PCM. The PS3 will decode the DTS HDMA bitstream and output that as multichannel PCM. Your receiver will not show anything but "Multichannel Input" of either 5.1 or 7.1. This is how it works.

Anybody asking more about how to get DTS HDMA via the PS3 is getting the wooden paddle.

Sorry that I'm not meant to be disturbing. But I can not see Multi-Channel PCM in my Onkyo 805 with HDMI at all...Any idea??

After upgrading to 2.30, every BD disc I pop in, the player will pause to ask if I wish to allow internet access from the BD disc. What's this for? Anyway to disable it?

Just because the PS3 is connected to the Onkyo via HDMI doesn't mean that YOU have enabled multichannel input. Yes, some receivers are quirky like that. Read your manual on how to enable multichannel input via the HDMI input. It should be fairly easy. Let us know how it goes.

It's part of the BD-Live profile.

Settings-> BD/DVD Settings->BD Internet Connection

I don't know how to disable it completely. I assume you get that question because your PS3 is connected to the internet. Following that assumption and since there is no option to disable it, there are two options left: leave it as is (Confirm meaning the PS3 will always ask before connecting) or turn it on completely (Allow).

My setting is on Allow. It doesn't stop to ask me when I put in a BD and I'm curious to see what BD-Live is all about.

Just click 'Yes'. All its asking is to set your PS3 to be able to access online content.

Wow! Ain't it great to see these 7.0+ peaks? Funny how those DUDders still claim that bitrate isn't all that. Whatever.

I'll be spooked shitless during those high peaks when I get my copy of The Orphanage next week.

Don't be amazed.

I hope everyone realizes bit-rate at any point means absolutely nothing about audio quality in Lossless. Lossless = PCM Data in, Same PCM Data Out. You shouldn't get too excited about DTS-HD MA's lack of VBR compression efficiency at any point. Just realize it's the same at both it's lowest and highest... and enjoy.
