Default UltraHD Blurays and players will start coming by Christmas 2015. Still buying blurays

http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/06/u...y-coming-soon/

As UltraHd (4k) blurays will start arriving by end of the year. And i'm sure they will come with a regular bluray (1080P) with them. As Blurays currently come with 3d bluray/bluray/dvd and a digital copy. Is anyone holding back bluray disk purchases from now till the end of the year? To stop from making a double purchase. I'm thinking this way. Just wanted to know if other people are thinking the same.

I'll probably start buying more blu rays since their prices will surely be even lower once UHD BDs roll around. Plus, I don't have a 4K TV yet. We also don't know the prices yet. They might end up being very expensive.

Oh no! My Blu-rays of House of Bamboo (1955), The Cheerleaders (1973) and Sweet Sixteen (1983) haven't even arrived in the mail yet, and they're already obsolete.

(Hahahaha.)

Of course, if combo packs of UltraHD Blu-ray/standard Blu-ray really turn out to be a thing, then I might buy a futureproof package of Spectre (2015) when it comes out.

Thanks for the info. I just stopped buying blurays the second I read the title of this post. I'm going to sell all of my blurays and dvds on Monday.

It's time for a fresh, 4K start! UHD here I come!

from articles i've read. the disks should be around the same price as bluray disks now. players around 2-3 times more than a regular bluray player.

I'll probably continue buying Blu-rays, though I've become a bit more selective when it comes to titles. I hope they do offer 4K/BD combos though, since something like The Force Awakens is something that I'd be future proofing for 4K on day one.

No, because most of the titles on blu-ray now will most likely never make it to UHD.

I also don't like the fact that UHD players and 4K TVs will upraise existing blu to phantom 4K. While some look okay, many do not. And this is not a setting you can turn off.

So regular retail UHD BD's at around $22-25 then? Not bad at all. I still don't know if I'm willing to shell out $800+ for a new 4K TV, and $230+ for a 4K player though. I'm not saying I'll never jump on board, but for the moment my 1080p discs look just fine on my 1080p 47" LG

Like you, I'll also want to sell my blu rays and dvds. However, besides Amazon and Ebay, what's the best place to sell one's blurays and dvd?

That's about the only place unless you know someone in real life wanting to start a collection.

Most people aren't collectors though.

That's what DVD owners said about blu. UHD is on the horizon, better just accept it!

You do know that DVD has a 70-30 market share lead on blu ray right now, almost a full decade after blu ray was launched, right?

To this day, I've never stumbled upon a UHD disc article while casually browsing the Internet and sites like IGN.com. I've seen plenty of "should you buy a 4K TV" guides and articles, but not a single solitary one that is about the upcoming UHD disc format. If it wasn't for this forum, I would have no idea that it was coming. It just doesn't seem to generate any kind of buzz among the general population.

I have a 35" set and I'm about to buy a 40" TV, will I actually notice a difference in quality at that size? Or will I have to upgrade to 4K to be able to notice anything?

20 years from now after all the old people buying DVDs now are dead 4K TVs will be all there is and UHDs will be all that's made. Technology is inevitable. Look at the stuff from 20 years ago that is gone now. I bet there were lots of people back then saying they didn't need certain things we take for granted today.

The world moves on man. You gonna move on with it or be left behind?

Hi I am one of the old people at 68 and I have over 500 Blu-rays and have not bought a DVD for years unless it was not available on Blu-ray. Also I have had a 4K tv for over a year and my Blu-rays look fabulous on it.

Will continue to buy any Blu-ray that appeals to me. I won't be jumping into UHD BD for a while.

I'm far from convinced UHD will be see significant adoption or offer a significant improvement over blu-ray for most content (frankly, it's very obvious that even most people here are not limited by the resolution of their blurays, but by their eyes vs. their screen size). I'm far from convinced that a 4K LCD will provide an overall better visual experience than a high-end 1080p plasma. Maybe once OLED TVs become more affordable, I'll take another look, but for the time being, I'm planning on sitting UHD out.

I don't think I'll see a big enough difference in it to justify paying for the gear and re-buying BDs. Blu Rays continue to consistently blow me away with their depth of image so I think I'm pretty set for life.
