I think Samsung is playing with this picture. The darker yellow shows as a shadow on the Samsung picture. But it completely covers the OLED picture. None of the other buildings in both pictures shows the shadow covering the complete building.

Don't judge pictures of tvs (especially hdr content) for any type of color accuracy. There's likely camera crush of details that's visible in person. But for the record, I believe oled tvs have always had issues with yellows.

Usually it's because of the black levels, not exactly a big secret there.

I was wondering if any of the Tv's demonstrated are claiming 12 bit (or more) capabilities. I know some accept 12 bit but then display 10 bit.

No, 12-bit panels don't even exist in prototype form yet. 10-bit panels only.

They will milk the hell out of 10 bit. Seems like they'll create all new technologies before going 12 bit. Maybe 2030?

If what you're saying is true about the Z9D only being replaced by a future 8K TV, then I guess I'm good to go till then. I certainly wouldn't mind, saves me from doing another 4K upgrade before 8K.
To correct some of my earlier posts, the X1U is designed for 8K, but they'll also be equipping 4K LCD/OLED models with it. Sony had 4K demos with the new processor too, and they were noteworthy. I expect that next year they'll announce an 8K replacement to the Z9D. I'm confident that the new SoC, the X1U will launch in at least some of the highest end 2019 models, because a Sony rep at CES mentioned to expect the new chip "sooner rather than later". Can't say for certain that any of their first consumer 4K/8K LCD versions will hit 10,000peak nits, but certainly that's within the scope of the X1U's capabilities.

Since they're now demoing 10,000nit mastered video game material, I think it's safe to say we're on the cusp of 10,000nit monitors for content mastering, stuff that will almost make the HDR highlights on a Dolby Pulsar look dim by comparison, no tone mapping required if the customer's tv is also 10,000nits peak brightness. Full-spec HDR, it's exciting!

Looks like Samsung's new Qled might be the real deal after all. Nanosys suggests that the 2018 Qleds are using Quantum Dot Color Filters, a borderline game changer for lcd. Increased saturation, better blacks with less bleed, and drastically improved viewing angles. Curious what they charge for it though.

Yep, just more of samsung trying to downplay oled anyway they can since they weren't able to get oled working for themselves. Qled is a total joke. Waaay overpriced and underperforming. Its no shocker that they are resorting to showroom tactics to make their tvs look better in comparison.

The only thing samsung unvieled at ces that even remotely mattered was micro led, which seems years away from mass production, if they can even get it to work in mass production. Which seems iffy after hearing how it has to be manufactured.

Miss the micro dimming with quantum dot color filter demo?

2017 Qleds were basically a placeholder. in 3 years, oled will be "old". it will have a nice place with its ability to be thin and roll up, but it wont be the king of PQ anymore because it will fall behind in HDR real fast. just ask the folks that seen the 10,000 nit sony if oled can even compare, and it cant.

I mentioned the micro in my post your quoting...... the problem is they are ganna have a ***** of a time mass producing it. They right now literally have to assemble it pixel by pixel. E.g., cant be mass produced currently. I forget where the article was, but samsung said how it has to be assembled right now, and they way the samsung rep explained it sounded like the Manhatten project in how barely feasible it is currently. Id venture at least 5 years off before we see a sub $10k micro led set hit stores. Meanwhile thats 5 years for other tech to improve as well. Not saying it isn't the future of tv tech, it may very well be, but right now touting it is kinda like those guys sayin cold fusion is the future of energy.. sure may be, but make it work and make it sellable.

Read closer.

Micro dimming and micro led are different.

The 85" 8k micro DIMMING still uses an LCD panel but has 10,000 leds/zones and has a quantum dot color filter on the front. I didn't realize this until today as well. Oh. And it's 4000 nits. Samsung has already promised its being sold in 2018.

Unless sony pulls a rabbit out of its hat for 2018 this looks to be the best TV of 2018. Insert Antonio Banderas meme here lol

The screen is capable, it’s claimed, of pumping out an again unprecedented (on a consumer display) 4,000 nits of brightness, and it really looked as if a massive amount of those nits were being deployed to help emphasize all the extra detail the upscaling engine was adding to the decanter image.

Yet despite the brightness of the decanter being so dazzling that my camera couldn’t capture it properly, there wasn’t a hint of blooming or light leakage into the pitch black backdrop the decanter was set against.

Achieved by adding a new light-focusing filter and improving the anti-reflective filter that was probably the biggest attraction of the 2017 QLED TVs, the 8K demo screen essentially delivered contrast the like of which I’ve never seen before. Here’s hoping Samsung doesn’t lose a bunch of dimming zones between now and the final TV going on sale.
