Not 10,000 nit consumer displays anytime soon, but higher than what we have now are not that far away based on the R&D which has gone into this prototype.
I agree, these prototypes always need lots of work before they make it into the consumer market, if they ever do, besides I don't think too many consumers would like a display that requires a dedicated 20amp circuit, then there's also the question of BTU output from a Behemoth like this.

Thank you for your reply.

If you have a translation available, I think some of us would be interested.

I am most interested in the UB820. Can't wait to hear more about it. Also would be nice if Panasonic re entered the US Tv market.

You can use several translators. I tend to use EDGE and its Microsoft Translator for Microsoft Edge (normally use Firefox) when I need some site translations. I used it on the pages mentioned.

And then when you map it down to whatever lower luminance of the consumer TV may be (like ~ 1,000 nits) the interesting thing that happens is that even though the consumer display isn’t nearly as bright, you’ll produce a superior image (than having mastered on a 4,000 nit monitor) because you get an oversampling effect in the color volume domain, a little like the advantage one sees with oversampling with regards to spatial resolution (shoot with an 8K camera and finish in currently popular 2K, rather than shooting with a 2K camera).

I was invited to Panasonic's off site private exhibit at CES and spent a lot of time with the BD engineers. Seems like this will be the 1st true "universal" player as it supports HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR.

Solid build quality, two HDMI outputs, optical audio out, 2 channel RCA and 7 channel analog audio outputs. Panasonic also developed a new "HDR Optimizer" that manages the PQ curve so the peak luminance and colors are not clipped when the content is graded brighter than the TVs ability.

I'm allocated for the 1st USA allotment that is scheduled for end of July.

Hope this helps and post any questions or comments.

So with the Panasonic player do you need to put in the peak nits your TV is capable of?

I don't think so, but I'll find out and get back. It will take a while as I need to ask the US and copy the engineer in Japan.

Don’t care about extreme short range 5G being used to proclaim faster phones. At this point in time the smart phone has evolved to the equivalent of a toaster as far as attractiveness at CES. Yes everyone has one, so?
It's still where the big money is and therefore, while the press and critics might not care all that much, from a business perspective, it's cared for a lot.

In fiscal 2017 (ending 9/30/2017), Apple alone sold 216.7 million phones. And there are more Android phones sold than Apple phones. I believe global 4K TV sales were about 82 million this past year (I don't know the HD numbers). But I walked into a Best Buy a few days ago to pick up a very cheap set for my 92-year-old mother and the number of TV models seems to have increased substantially in recent years.

And as with most tech products, only a small niche buys the top end with all the wizardry. Everyone I saw buying TV's yesterday was buying the low end, although I wasn't exactly in the richest neighborhood in the world. And in some ways, the low end is more remarkable than the high end. I bought my mother a 39" TV with Roku built in (not that she'll use it) that had a perfectly acceptable picture (although not one that I would accept) that was light years better than what she had been watching (still an SD CRT) for $219. That's a freaking miracle. The fact that a TV that has apps embedded and connects to the web can be designed, manufactured, warehoused, distributed and sold at retail and everyone along the way can supposedly make a little profit at that price is absurd. It should be impossible. Hell, there are frying pans that sell for more than that and I paid almost as much to buy her two sets of blinds for the windows.

The problem at the high end is that it always seems like it would be worth waiting just one more year, either because there's even better new tech coming or because some standard isn't final yet or because something is still being refined. I'm starting to get itchy for a new higher-end set, but I think it's gonna' be 2019 before I buy (unless my set dies).

Robert, if I may ask.

Did you hear anything about a Sony Z9F model at the CES floor? Do you think the rumors of a possible announcement/release later this year may turn out to be true?

No one leaked anything about a successor to the Z9D at CES. We'll have to wait for CEDIA or IFA in September '18 to see what's announced.

Do not believe the CPU marketing names ... These names are for buyers' delusion, imitating some sort of gradation ...
In most cases, we have different names of the same processor in different models.

Very informative info.

One suggestion- in place of 'flagman' I think the term 'flagship' is what you wanted.

Robert,
Thanks for all your information about what you saw and did at CES. Do you have a summary of your impressions either here or at your VE site?

I spent most of my time at CES in Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and LG's exhibits and in their private off site suites. Here's my list of the most technological advancements:

- Samsung's modular emissive LED panels (potential far future display technology)

- Samsung's Full Array Back-lit LCD/QLED (no launch date or price, but this will be a 2018 product)

- Sony's 85" 8K full array back-lit LCD/LED TV (no launch date or price, but this will be a 2018 product)

- Sony's 2018 X900F with the X1 Extreme processor with HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR. Nice upgrade for 2018 and planned in 55", 65", 75" and the beautiful 85" screen sizes.

- Sony's lower priced 2018 OLED TVs in 55" and 65", A8F series

- LG's 2018 OLED line up with Auto Calibration

- LG's 2018 8500 and 9500 LCD/LED with full array local dimming

Check out my video at LG's private off site suite at CES explaining all of the features and benefits of LG's 2018 Auto Calibration.
