Which will make it interesting to see more on this set as far as nits and if it is not only an upgrade to the 900E but the 930E as well. My guess is they bring the X900F close to the performance of the 930E keeping the lower price point of the X900E selling one high end model and a TON of them.

Yeah not a pretty player for sure but hopefully the price is low enough to justify moving away from the X800 design and also upgrade to DV. Still awkward to see them release a lower end model more capable than the current. Maybe there is also an X900 with the same build of the X800 around the corner since the X800 and X1000 aren't suppose to be getting DV.
I don’t really care what the player looks like as it sits in my cabinet. My current Sony blu Ray player looks similar.

Regarding the UPB-X700 - Why has pricing not been announced when it's going to be coming out in just a few weeks... these companies give me a headache. Also, will it support HDR 10+?

Yeah sony doubled down on dolby at CES. Most of the top tier companies are. No doubt though that if 10+ takes hold, all of the higher end 2017/2018 models from lg and sony will get firmware updates to support it. But at this stage, they see no reason to since your only option for 10+ content is amazon shows, aka, a handful worth watching.

The best grain of salt I found is this:
https://audiojamonline.com/sony-ubp-...ay-disc-player

And my own guess is that we'll see it eventually for $150. Black Friday 2018...$99

* That link above is confusing; they mention the X700 but the specs and features read for the X800.
...And the price too.

** C-Net mentioned that the Sony X800 was selling for $150 on the Black Friday period and during the Holidays. They reasoned that the X700 couldn't be more than that, list price. ...I agree.

https://www.cnet.com/news/sony-i-shr...lu-ray-player/

"The player will be available in January 2018 but Sony has yet to reveal pricing for the X700. Given the X800 was recently on sale for $150, we can't imagine it will be much more than that."

OK - So future 4K UHD title's won't be released in HDR 10+? I just don't want to have to buy a new player every year for some stupid HDR minimal update.

There will 100% be 4K UHD titles that have HDR10+.

HDR10+ was added to the UHD BD spec by the BDA on Dec 26, and both Fox and WB have announced support for the format.

We even know one of the titles that will be in HDR10+ already. It will be Wonder Woman.

Did a lil search for the Z9F just to see if anything would come up and what do I find a sneaky lil red herring from Sony or is it? hmm ...

https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-t...-theater-2018/

“Sony broke new ground by announcing the HT-Z9F, which will be the world’s first 3.1-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar, as well as another Atmos-enabled soundbar, the HT-X9000F.”

“The HT-X9000F, designed specifically to match the aesthetic of Sony’s X900F television line”

Is this hinting the Z9F sound bar is designed to specifically match the aesthetics of the Sony Z9F television line? Seems like a mighty big coincidence to me or Sony hasn’t revealed there full deck of cards yet, hmm ... as I’ve just read this from Steve Withers – Assistant Editor of AVForums.

“We'll be getting a look at the Sony stand tomorrow and there's a special demo later in the week that is embargoed, so I expect there are more models to come. We'll get a look at their full UK line-up in early February.”

It’s probably a long shot with a pinch of wishful thinking but I thought I would post my thoughts anyway as it’s looks very suspicious and could go either way

I suspect the light-weight Sony player is their reaction to pricing pressure they felt from the Samsung and LG players plastic construction and lower price points. They basically went down the rabbit hole with Sammy and LG. Witness the 12v power connector as their falling over the cliff. Not withstanding the DV offering on the X700, will it do DV out of the box, or will there be an un-named timetable of waiting for DV update?

(I hate wall-warts! Esp. as this should be a top-notch consumer experience product for the ultimate 4K UHD picture and sound.)

They are probably sticking by their 'flagship' X1000ES player, as it has a built in display and is functional as their high-end model to continue to support the installer market.

Oppo and Panasonic are left to cover the mass market high end player lines with their offerings. Unless Sony has another player to usurp the 1000 with DV capability, Sony has taken the low road into mass market player makeovers every 1 to 2 years. And you can probably forget firmware updates on out-dated players pretty quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Like I said before, they did it in 2016 with the X940D/Z9D.

Very true. Unfortunately quite a few people got caught out there. I’m very smitten with my Zed and can’t wait for the DV firmware to drop which will keep me extremely happy until Sony brings CLEDIS to the “affordable” consumer market, hopefully by 2020/2021. I’m still very curious to see the full potential of the Backlight Master Drive though since it was reported that it was capable of reaching the heights of 4000nits. If the Z9F does see the light of day and doubles the Zone Count on the 75inch from 800 to 1600 which can push 4000nits, I may just bite pending if it becomes available in my country as we only get the 65Z9D

I got the X940D as soon as it became available, thinking I would own Sony's flagship model for that year. Imagine my (bad) surprise when they announced the Z9D a couple of months later.

I would be very interested in a Z9F. But even if it will see the light of day later this year, it mostly likely will not have 3D. So I think I'm better off with getting a 75Z9D now to replace my X940D. That way I can enjoy the best LCD TV (with 3D) out there, which will hold me over until 8K comes along with glassess free 3D technology...

Hey listen I agree 100%. Every player in my house is a Sony, 1 the old mini PS3 like design, 1 with the weird diamond shape up top, 2 that look like the X700 but all square and an X800.

The build of the X800 is nice but I have never had a problem with any of the other players. They always work and are quiet so as long as the X700 follows that trend I will gladly buy one for DV support. Looks like it is still gonna be a universal player with the same disc drive, same output connections, with addition of DV but in a cheaper smaller form to keep price down and I am ok with that. IMO even if they offered say an X900 with same build as the X800 but it cost more, I would still take the cheaper version with the same functionality. I personally welcome the smaller size as well.

Still with as low as the X800 has dropped in price surely it wouldn’t have been too hard to refresh it with what was needed for DV and relaunch at $300 with updated model number. Then the X700 could have been a cheaper alternative still for those that feel they don’t need the premium build and want a smaller form factor.

Just about the only thing LG kinda sucks at making is the Blu-ray players, everything else (TVs, Smartphones, appliances, etc.) LG is a well-respected brand, just as good as Sony.

Sony wont disclose the number of zones for the 10,000 nit prototype, but they did tell Vincent Teoh that his zone count for his recent review of the 100" Z9D was wrong.

If anyone is going to CES, Scenarist is demoing the new HDR10+ authoring workflow at their booth: https://www.scenarist.com/index.php/...d-at-ces-2018/
