It's not really a Director's Cut is it? It's just the cut gore scenes and stuff.

I've seen some of the footage in rough shape online, but the effects really do look cool.

The Wolfman was okay. Nothing great, not too bad though.
Texas Chainsaw was outright bad though.
Didn't want to see The Thing.

I was enjoying this movie until the super nintendo-level effects towards the end kind of ruined it. The 2003 remake was great, though.

Agreed. Don't think these are overly well suited for scream either. Too generic, made for money junk. Wolfman was decent. The ORIGINAL thing on the other hand would be a great one for scream to look at.

As mentioned earlier, I do think scream should look at some more modern releases (I mentioned Turistas as an example). There are a ton of great modern releases that never really saw a great treatment.

Haven't seen the Platinum Dunes ones. Their Friday the 13th and Elm Street movies were awful.

I agree with you on Elm Street but when it comes to the Friday remake, take out the bullshit with having Jason keep that girl alive and I actually liked that film more than the originals. Definitely not worthy of being called a classic but something about it was enjoyable while all the original films always bored me. When it comes to slashers it's all about the original Halloween and the original Nightmare, to hell with the sequels.

I liked the Nightmare one more. It was bad, but meh. Freddy's Dead was just as bad.
The Friday remake was the worst one in the series. It made me angry, with its unlikable characters, bad writing, and piss-poor direction.

Bad writing didn't bother me because all of the previous Friday films had bad writing and I don't want likeable characters in slasher films(nor should there be any in general), the characters are there to be killed in gruesome ways. Out of the three big ones, Nightmare, Halloween and Friday, Friday was always the cheapest and worst in my eyes. For a badass character like Jason V, he deserved better films.

A Nighmare on Elm Street isn't as bad as people say. It's darker in a more perverse way than the others, and I think that's what turns people off. But the visuals are phenomenal and direction/acting is superb. Friday the 13th felt much more generic killer-in-the-woods than a Jason movie, and I think that's where it falls short -even though it's very entertaining. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) might be my favorite new wave horror remake. I really think it's effectively scary and it actually gave me nightmares when I first saw it. Black X-Mas, Sorority Row, and The Hitcher are criminally underrated, as far as remakes go, IMO.

Any of those last three (in particular) would be good pick-ups for Scream Factory, in my opinion.
Just to reiterate, I think pairing The Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting with the remake would be fantastic!

The acting in Elm Street was horrendous. As of now, the only modern (post-Scream) horror remake that I enjoyed was Halloween (and only the first).

You don't want likable characters in slasher films? What are your least favorite Friday movies, Final Chapter and Jason Lives?

Other than The Ring, Let Me In, Vanilla Sky, and to a lesser degree The Crazies (I may be forgetting one or two, but certainly no more than that), I haven't seen a single remake in the last 15 years that wasn't a slick, unimaginative and pointless rehash that I could barely sit through.

I'm not saying I don't want them necessarily, I just don't need them to be likeable to enjoy a slasher film is all. When I watch slasher films, I'm mainly watching for the creative(hopefully)kills.

My way of viewing it is, if I don't care about the characters, why should I spend 90 minutes with them?

I didn't like the first. 2 (as a great movie) and TNG (as a hilarious experience) for me.

Like I said before, they're there to get killed. In most slasher films the biggest draw is the "cool" villain who never dies. Slasher films are practically the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality in horror films. I don't expect deep characters or themes.

In the 80's slasher film makers realized that their core audience was the outcasts, so they started making the victims resemble those people the outcast would like to see get killed like "the Jock" that picks on them and "the popular/pretty girl" that won't go out with them. The formula obvoiusly worked because slasher films ruled the theaters and Video stores during the 80's. Speaking as one of the Outcast I love Slasher films

If you were a Jock or a Prom Queen you probably can't relate to slasher films.
