I LOVED the Evil Dead remake, probably one of my favorite horror films of the past couple years.

Haven't seen too many other remakes yet, but I like watching them if nothing else to see a new interpretation of the story. Definitely going to watch Black Xmas, DotD, F13, The Thing, and My Bloody Valentine. I'll probably eventually get around to The Fog as well, even though I've heard its one of the worst remakes
The only reason to watch My Bloody Valentine is to see what has been called the "longest continuous full frontal nude scene in a non-pornographic film."

It was pretty entertaining in 3D. Not going to lie.

I remember going to see it in 3D in a packed theater on opening night. It was a great atmosphere. As for the film, it was pretty good as far as modern remakes go.

I also loved My Bloody Valentine. It was an over the top slasher and that's how I like 'em!

Forgot about the Evil Dead remake. It definitely ranks up there as one of the best horror remakes. While it wasn't quite as good as the original, you could tell there was some serious effort put into making the film. That's a movie that gets a lot of unnecessary hate in my opinion.

Very much didn't like it. Love the second and third films, but the original never did anything for me. The remake did even less. Can't wait for the series though.

I consider the Remake to be superior to any of the prior films in just about every way. I actually like Bruce Campbell a lot in those films, so he get's the edge for just being himself, however the remake did everything the original did and did it better in nearly every way.

Man, I'm buying Monkey Shines just for the scene of that lead working out naked. Movie's pretty dumb tho.
Dark Half on the other hand was a pleasant surprise.

The problem with the remake compared to the original is that it seems like the director thought he was making a deathly serious horror movie, while Sam Raimi was trying to be scary but also clearly having a lot of fun and intentionally pushing it into comedy territory by the end (ex when Ash just gets hit in the face over and over with blood). I felt like the WRITER was trying to inject that similar tone of so over-the-top that it just becomes funny, particularly in that whole bathroom scene in the middle, but the rest of the time it's just shot in that same oppressive pallette-corrected modern horror style that's been such a cliche of american studio horror flicks since the TCM remake, at least. I did think it was one of the better remakes out there and I enjoyed it and I bought it and I think it's better than Army of Darkness, but I definitely prefer the original (and 2) and think it's confused tonally.

What Scream Factory Movies did you get for Christmas???

I got a pretty good haul:
  • Lake Placid
  • Assault on Precinct 13
  • Eve of Destruction
  • Scanners II and III
  • Vincent Price Collection Volume 2

Plus I got like $200.00 in amazon Gift Cards so I plan on picking up a few more Scream Factory titles

EDIT: I just ordered Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead II also!!

It didn't come off "deathly serious" to me at all.

I thought the director cut the comedy out because the over-the-top gore was funny enough on it's own, in an outlandish way. I loved it and prefer it to all of the previous Evil Dead films too.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. The remake completely failed to capture the originality, wit, and style of the original film. Nor did the remake have the impact or influence that the original film has, and will continue to have. The remake although acceptable on its own merits, didn't supersede the original film in any way expect budget.

I didn't get any SF titles for Christmas yesterday but the ones I bought myself this year are...

The Howling
The Fog
Day of the Dead
Prince of Darkness
Vincent Price Collection: I
Body Bags
Darkman
Pumpkinhead
Lifeforce
Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Nightbreed: Director's Cut
Tales From the Crypt/Vault of Horror
Lord of Illusions

Didn't leave much for my wife to buy me on the SF front.

Basically the majority of SF films I own I bought this year, there were only a couple I purchased in 2013. Hopefully they announce some better titles for 2015. Only getting EFNY and Mad Max so far, as long as the transfers are good.

No Blus specifically, but most of the money I got will be going towards Scream releases. It's much easier for me to get money and purchase them myself.
