Rather than scratch the whole project, they simply made Scarecrows into a solo release.
It was going to be paired with Destroyer which is still on the release schedule and it's going to be paired with another title.
Ah, my mistake. Thanks for the correction.
You're mixing up Scarecrows with Exterminators in the Year 3000, which became a solo release after Scream Factory realized Cruel Jaws might land them in hot water with Universal.

I have a pretty random question. Do all of the Chiller films have reversible covers? I know Animal and Beneath do, but I'm not sure about the rest.

It might have been, but if what they played in theaters was from an honest-to-God 35mm print or negative, that would at the least be a much better start than what Anchor Bay gave us.

They do, but there is nothing stopping Scream!/Shout! from acquiring the rights to do a special edition.

They did. Do you remember when THE SHADOW was released 6 months before Shout! released a special edition of THE SHADOW?

Nope, not all of them are reversible.

I was also surprised that Animal came with a slip.

Anchor Bay is NOT Universal whom they had a deal with. Just because Scream did the Shadow release with Universal doesnt mean they can do it with any studio...
Scream cant just release SNDN without buying the rights from AB, which it seems are locked up with them.

I just checked all of mine (Dead Souls, Chilling Visions, Beneath, The Monkey's Paw, and Animal), and it looks like the only ones that have reversible covers are "Animal" & "Beneath".

Thanks, guys. I don't normally care about slipcovers, but I like displaying both covers on my Scream Factory movies. And I didn't own any of the Chiller films outside of Animal and Beneath, so I was wondering if I needed to be on the lookout for copies with slipcovers or not for the other movies.

Jesus Christ,

OF COURSE Anchor Bay is not Universal..but there is nothing saying that Scream! can't make a deal with Anchor Bay and still put a proper HD release out (nothing is "locked out" when it comes to money. It just come to negotiating a price). The point was that just because AB put it out on blu doesn't mean Scream! can't eventually put it back out just like what they did with THE SHADOW after Universal just put it out on blu 6 to 8 months prior.

First of all
My name isnt Jesus Christ
Second of all
If Scream could have made a deal with Anchor Bay, dont you think it would have happened by now ? I cant see it happening because both are independent studios - Anchor Bay probably would not sublicense their library to Scream, in fact I cant think of any studio that has sub-licensed from AB..
My point was and still IS AB is NOT Universal, and you are comparing apples to oranges. If SNDN was with Universal maybe it would be more likely, but it isnt, its with AB another studio that would sublicense from Universal.
Youre kind of reaching with your point
Youre saying that Scream can do the same thing with another independent studio that they did with Universal (re: the Shadow) , which is a huge company that isnt interested in their library all that much, and I completely disagree. It doesnt work that way. What needs to happen is AB losing the rights to SNDN, or anything else in their library before Scream would be able to get it. And knowing AB, they probably have a long term license for SNDN.

That's probably not the best example to use. Cliff MacMillan mentioned that their deal for The Shadow was in place without prior knowledge that Universal would be releasing their own version.

I'm still not quite sure what Universal's logic was behind that decision.

That's an exceptional circumstance, IMO. My understanding of how that worked out is that the two companies cooperated roughly 50/50 on the release of the set. It wasn't really a case of Anchor Bay sublicensing films to Shout! Factory or vice versa.

Was Class of 1984 with anchor bay? Maybe that's a better example. I'm not 100% sure on this, so I'm not looking to argue about it. Just came across the DVD of it on their site.

Class of 1984

They lost the rights to it as AB has lost rights to many of their titles, and Scream picked it up. I think thats most likely what happened here.

You know what? You got the last word, Godzilla. Congratulations on your no prize winning victory.

I thought my point was pretty simple: just because something already got a blu-ray release doesn't mean it can't be released again, whether it's 6 months later or 6 years later.

The point (f-ing hell) of bringing up THE SHADOW has nothing to do with Universal or even THE SHADOW. It was to point out that movies previously released by one studio have then been released by another REGARDLESS of deals previously set up or whatever. You guys are getting your pantaloons up in a bunch over technicalities. OF COURSE Shout! could make a deal with Anchor Bay (a smaller studio than Universal) and eventually release a proper HD release AFTER seeking a 35mm negative or print, which (if Shout! is considering any deal) would take some time to do.

So please bring up some technicality or whatever to turn what was simply a "wish/prayer/hope/what if?" into something it never was: an argument.

Okay Godzilla.. your turn!
