Looking at what scream are releasing for each of these, I see no need whatsoever to buy them again. It's pretty much $18 (plus UK shipping) for nice artwork. Easy pass.

If anyone dosent own these, they're both worth owning and have high rewatch value. But if you can pick up the previous releases together for the cost of one SF release, do that.

Class of 1999. Agree to rent first, I blind bought the DVD a couple of yrs ago. Bit dull and boring, not much action. Looked great going by cover, story on the 'back of box' etc, but it for me was a let down. Was hoping somewhere between The Principal (Belushi) and Class of 1999, got something completely meh.
Yeah but if you enjoy extras like I do, you are missing out on some by doing what you are suggesting.

Escape from New York may not be the end all release we were hoping for, but it's still the best that it has ever looked, at least in my opinion. Since there is no definite answer how it should look, it's really a preference thing I guess. Plus not only do you get all the previous DVD extras on Blu, you get some new extras.

Mad Max on the other hand is pretty much an identical release PQ wise, with the Scream release looking slightly worse. I was able to get the Max Max release for $15 Canadian, so even though I already have the trilogy I'll grab it for the missing extras now on the Blu-ray, as well as the new extras, including a new interview with Mel, who despite the controversy surrounding him, I am still a huge fan of!

This is pure speculation, but I imagine we'll get one ... Maybe two in May and June, then a slate of 5-6 in July for Comic-Con. They also usually announce one or two titles during the Summer or Fear sale, which I think is set for June. We should start hearing more announcements before long and then this thread can turn into a real ****storm when people start *****ing about Universal Transfers and such.

haha so true! With MGM's well run dry (I think we'll get a Vincent Price Vol. 3, not much else left), it's obvious most of their new releases will be Universal titles, and we all know how their transfer are. I can't wait to as the commences. I do think there's a good chance there will be a new deal with Fox as well though, with titles such as The Fly 2 among them. Either way, I can't wait as I personally have never had any huge issues with Scream's releases!

What else does Fox have that people think would sell? The Fly II gets brought up a lot but I never see much else mentioned. I think a Price set is certainly possible, as is a Childs Play 2 and 3 collectors editions with the tv cuts included. I think whatever is coming from Universal will be one of the "highly requested" titles Scream mentioned, which in my mind means Either Tales from the Crypt Double Feature, Tales from the hood, Shocker, or Tales from the Dark side. I'd be happy with any of these, but particularly the first two.

As for the Arrow comparisons. Yes, they deliver solid work, but so far their US releases have been rather lacklustre for me. Blood and Black Lace was their biggest release for me, and they didn't think to double check their license for North America, so who knows when that will be released, if ever. I have Society pre-ordered, but none of their other releases strike me as day 1 purchases, definitely not for the prices they are selling for here in Canada! I'll take two Scream double features any day of the week over one obscure Arrow title. Hopefully they start releasing some bigger titles!

Either way, if Synapse can release their Argento titles this year, including my most anticipated release Suspiria, they will be the company to beat! They have a great line up, and their work even surpasses Arrow as far as PQ and AQ go.

I thought they owned a lot more, but couldn't find as much as I thought.

House of the Damned
The House on Skull Mountain
The Mephisto Waltz
The Norliss Tapes (Not sure about this one)
Omen 4: The Awakening
Frankenstein Unbound
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)

Through FOX and MGM they could also release Bubba Ho-Tep.

Yeah I can't believe this hasn't been released yet, unless MGM is holding on to it to release themselves. It must be a decent seller for them as they have re-released it on DVD several times, including with an Elvis jacket packaging which couldn't be that cheap to produce.

Bold I'm going to get the Arrow and the italisized I remember watching quite often when I was younger. I also nominate a lot of the Roger Corman Collection releases.

No idea why Omen IV: The Awakening wasn't in The Omen Collection set, which I own.

I highly doubt it was a case of them not 'double-checking' their licence.

Yeah valid point on the extras. For me the new extras are not worth $18+ shipping. Good for those who don't already have it, but would be surprised any fan of EFNY wouldn't already own the previous release. As with Mad Max, neither are any upgrade on PQ or AQ. Just my thoughts on these two titles, nothing against SF but have to be disappointed, these are both stand out cult titles and it's just a bit of fancy artwork. Shame.

I just pre-orderd Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf. My God, if there was ever a so bad, it's good transcendent movie this is it.

From Wikipedia:

...the scene with Sybil Danning revealing her substantial bare breasts was repeated seventeen times during the end credits screen crawl.

MGM has such a vast library that I don't believe the well will ever "run dry" but I do believe it's time Shout started looking for other libraries to license from - maybe even seek out independently-produced cult titles. Also, they should push harder to try to get stuff from Lionsgate and maybe even Warner. Yeah, both are notoriously stingy with their libraries but there's plenty of material to mine from. Some titles I'd love to see from Shout on BD:

He Knows You're Alone (Warner)
Happy Birthday To Me (Sony)
Piranha II (Sony)
Let's Scare Jessica To Death (Paramount)
976-Evil (Sony)
The Seventh Sign (Sony)

976-Evil and 976-Evil II (Lionsgate) are both Screaming for a quality release. I'd also enjoy a double feature of Psycho 4 and Omen IV. Outside of these however, Universal still has some of my most wanted titles, and from their it appears that we need to storm the Lionsgate Vaults and perform a snatch and grab as they still have so many titles people are clamoring for.
