My bad then. Your post came across as one of the haters this thread has been inundated with.

By the way... thanks for the feedback on Serpent & the Rainbow's transfer. I've been wanting to pick it up but have been balking because of the high prices. Not going to pay that much if it was a botched transfer.

Indeed; the other member mentioned it...

It's getting so daunting in this day and age of "physical media barely holding on" rumors and all the studios buying, selling, borrowing other studios' titles...we can't keep it straight anymore.

I wish we could go back to the days of the studio that SANCTIONED the release -- i.e. Universal puts out Jaws, Village of the Damned, et al -- puts out a much improved high definition version (well, if the studio is still in business)...

Oh -- Universal put out the Blu-ray of Village? I know they were the studio originally behind the film -- but I thought Scream took care of the BD transfer elements...

You mean the master from the DVD? Universal never put out a Blu-ray version of this film, unless I am mistaken...right?

If so, I can see that being a slight problem for the Blu-ray transfer; I still own the "Collector's Edition" DVD of the film (I even saw it theatrically) and watch it every Halloween season, upconverted through my Oppo BDP-83 -- it looks good and definitely watchable, but there are some issues with twitchy, unstable elements and some haloing/edge enhancement...

There's a Universal Blu-ray in Europe (same DVD master).

Its probably the same HD master that Universal created, for the German and Scream release. Its a great release

Would've been great if Shout/Scream, had gotten the "Rec" series. I hated the third, but I enjoyed 1, 2 & 4.

I bet it will happen now that I recently imported the 4-film set from Japan.

I thought that set didn't have English subs.
I went with the Spanish 4 disc set which has them, plus English dub for the first film.

Oh, I was thinking only of Region A/1, which was an incorrect assumption on my part -- regardless of how many masters are floating around out there, I only watch Village of the Damned one time during the year, so this probably wouldn't be a double dip.

I stated in the leprechaun thread, I don't get how lions gate can go pretty much all out with that collection, but then just stop. Lol it's like they've shown they can release catalogue titles, and pay for some nice extras.... They just refuse to do it on the regular. Their prices are really nice too. The Saw set and leprechaun set both I got for like 18 bucks new. 7 films a piece. Wish they would just start pumping them out if they refuse to license.

To stay on topic, hopefully rotld and the thing will give SF some capital to go after titles like final terror, without warning, deadly eyes, the nest, etc. those were by far my favorite releases. And are basically among the most obscure of the catalogue.

Sure, if someone is ok with that, that is their choice. And why should anyone else get upset over that. If you think it is over processed crap, then don't add it to your collection. If you think the DVD or existing blu-ray is better, then keep that in your collection. You can have two copies of the same movie if you want the best scan and the best extras. That is perfectly fine. It is just a matter of how someone chooses to spend their money. It makes them no less a movie fan.

The Leprechaun set only happened because of the terrible remake being released.

There are/were Region A/Free friendly releases for parts 1-3 available for a few years from Canada... I grabbed all of those upon release (and also own the UK Blu of part 4). The only 2 worth owning are the first two films, but they are with Sony in the States I believe.
