Well Mathilda May is pretty much naked throughout the entire film. Not sure if you really need another reason to buy it other than that

I've seen very mixed reactions. It's like a really, really nuts exaggeration of Quatermass and the Pit with a ton of nudity thrown in. It also had a MUCH bigger budget than the material would normally have received (yet still not nearly enough to do everything WELL), so it features tons of effects and crazy setpieces that never normally would have been attempted. It's loaded with unforgettably weird scenes. Like, at one point Patrick Stewart gets possessed, gets kissed by the hero, electricity zaps and blue spirits fly all over the place, he's taken on a helicopter, and then ALL of his blood flies out of his face, it manifests as a jello-covered nude space vampire, she screams, and then she dissolves again and splatters on the floor in a huge plop of fake blood.

The lead actor is the always-nuts Steve Railsback (Charles Manson in Helter Skelter, Duane Barry on the X-Files, much more). The filthy old men on this site tend to only mention the main "villain," who's a teenager that just walks around everywhere without a stitch on, but she does live up to the hype.

I don't think there's another movie like it (Quatermass and the Pit and Prince of Darkness are the closest points, and they're really far away), and I don't know if there ever will be another. IMO it's about the best thing in the Scream Factory catalog this side of Carrie but I know a ton of people aren't that excited by it.

Can't honestly disagree with Markgway's assertion that Lifeforce is rubbish, but that's one of the reasons I love it. A grindhouse premise done on an A-budget (for that time) and with state-of-the-art special-effects (again, for that time and many hold up surprisingly well). Silliness played waaaay over-the-top and with a straight face may be the best kind, and it's a riot of ridiculous plotting and some truly terrible acting. As someone who can appreciate bad horror/sci-fi (and what fans of these two genres can't?) this one remains a true gem.

If ever there was a movie made by a director under the influence, this is it. I'm paraphrasing here, but the late, great critic Pauline Kael said if you can't appreciate a truly bad movie, you can't really appreciate movies. Truer words were never spoken...

Lifeforce was blind buy for me as well that I was hesitant on for a long time but ended up being one of my best blind buys. I think it's Hooper's most effective film after TCM and yes, Mathilda May alone is worth the purchase. It's a blast of a movie. It's basically an all out crazy film about vampires and zombies with some Sci-fi mixed in. Stick with the director's cut

Smart choice! I can vouch that Cakefactory's review is spot on... It's a weird, wonderful mess of a movie!

Though it's not often mentioned on these threads, I always thought the Henry Mancini score for Lifeforce was a real rouser...and I still remember hearing it several years ago being used for a pizza commercial!

I bought my coffin set in 2014. I believe it may have the corrected disc as well. The Spanish version on my disc runs 101 minutes and looks quite nice. Anyone else confirm they have the corrected disc in the Coffin box?

I love these films but not sure I need a Blu-ray upgrade. They look fine on DVD.

The main theme also sounds like something used several times in NFL Films. I expected to hear John Facenda narration during the opening credits.

Critters is a New Line property, ie Warner, so SF has a snowball's chance in hell getting it or any of its sequels.

I hope we hear about some new titles before the year is up. Seems like they've been light on announcements since Comic Con.
