We have to face facts that Scream will almost certainly be double-dipping on quite a few WB titles over the next couple of years (?), since there simply aren't that many CE-candidates among the previously unreleased on Blu Warner stuff. And if it keeps the line alive, and they keep releasing 'new' titles at the same time, I really have no problem with this.
At this stage only a deal with Paramount would offer a reasonably large amount of 'new', high profile CE's. Last edited by BarnDoor; 03-27-2018 at 08:06 PM. |

While I personally find that I agree with you on this topic more than those wishing for a Collectors edition, it's about as much as a sure thing as I can think of as far as re-releases go and one I really can't complain to much about. We all have our choice titles that we buy, and re-buy, and re-buy again because we enjoy the films that much. For me, this would be the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise and my wish of a new box set. Do I need it? technically no, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't one of my highest wants right now and that I'd be willing to sacrifice a number of unreleased films to get it if it was done right... (IE. Like the US Phantasm set minus the low print run for folks that wanted the set.).

I'm not really looking forward to the inevitable onslaught of WB double-dips, given how many titles they have that haven't been released, but most 8 - 10 year old Blu-Rays with 10 - 20 year old HD transfers probably stand to look a lot better with fresh 2K / 4K scans.

My #1 reason to double dip is if they release an "alternate" version of a film I enjoy. Not necessarily a Director's Cut, since very few directors actually want to go back and re-edit a film they made 30 years prior, but, let's say they find a longer print somewhere, or trims or whatever and someone decides to put together an extended cut - I love stuff like that. This doesn't happen very often so my other reason to double dip is for a fresh scan. There are plenty of discs with early HD scans around that could use a makeover. Extras and packaging don't entice me enough to want to buy a film I already own again.

I agree with that in the sense that, what else could they offer? A "new scan?" The Warner Blu has a lot of supplemental features, and it looks good. Of course, if it was up to me I'd be focusing on the cult titles that still have no HD releases, but you know they'll rerelease something big for the money.

I think that maybe people are getting a little carried here. If there is a major deal with Warner it's most likely going to be for the titles that for one reason or another they have not released.

Alice Sweet Alice Cruising Alone in the Dark Xtro Razorback Deadly Friend The Hitcher (if it's still with HBO, and HBO titles are on the table) Return of the Living Dead II Memoirs of an Invisible Man (purely as it's Carpenter) I would add the Horror of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein if Scream were able to get them, but I suspect Warner will release those themselves. Critters would be a candidate but I expect a box set of all 4. Judgment Night would also be a candidate if it's not given the Shout Select treatment. |

Of this list Critters, Deadly Friend and Memoirs of an Invisible Man and maybe Return of the Living Dead I would pick up, the others not so much. The Hitcher too but I don't think they have that to give. Seems like WB should have more unreleased with their vast library. |

I picked up 88's Alice Sweet Alice disc and overall I'm happy with it but I can't help thinking how much better it could look if Scream was given access to the OCN, which Warner is supposed to have. If Scream really does have a deal with Warner (yes, I still have my doubts lol) then it's a sure bet this film will be among the Scream pickups. As for Xtro, the upcoming Second Sight release looks to be definitive and it's confirmed to be region-free so Shout would have to come up with something special to get me to double dip.
