Region Free and well worth importing. I've had it for a few years now and it was one of my early recommendations in the "Recommend an Indie Horror film" thread.

On another topic, thinking about Jaw dropping announcements (or the lack there of)... I think I can honestly say that I'm still legitimately shocked that Scream Factory was never able to release a Collectors edition of The Fly and/or The Fly II over the last few years. Those seem like such obvious releases that it's baffling they've never been re-released outside of the first films initial offering from Fox way back when.
This was actually one of my first imports. Love the low-fi vibe of this film; has some great scares.

If Scream Factory releases Candyman for ComicCon (I don't think they will), it would be a huge slap in the face. A lot of people (including myself) have already preordered the Arrow version, and Scream Factory have repeatedly said they don't have it. So if they turned around and announced it at ComicCon, there will be a lot of business they don't get just because they refused to admit they had it on the schedule. I feel the same about Xtro, which I have also purchased through the UK. When other labels announce titles, I wish SF would say, "hold up, guys; if you want the U.S. release we will be announcing it soon," or something of that nature. It would only benefit everyone involved. That's why I think they're not announcing Candyman. They could've at least confirmed it after Arrow announced it on Friday the 13th, if they were actually intending to release it. Thoughts?

At this point I'm hoping for a cheap Sony Release myself that I can just throw in the Arrow release package. That Arrow set is just too nice to pass up, so unless Scream Factory comes out with something nearly identical it's going to be tough to sway me off of the Arrow set.

It wouldn't surprise me if Arrow's about to pull a Donnie Darko, with a US release coming a few months after the UK release.

I dont know, man. I dont feel like they owe us information like this. They obviously want to surprise people and would be going after a wider more casual audience of fans who aren't region free as opposed to those who regularly import and can pick and choose which company to buy from.

I'm not region-free so I hope so. (And yes I know people will probably tell me I should be, but there's something nice about knowing I can get a replacement player at my local Target should something go wrong...)

Yeah, I'm not region-free myself so I'd fall into the former category.

It states at the bottom of the Bullmoose listing: "The manufacturer has requested that we not take pre-orders for this film. It will be made available to Bull Moose customers on street date. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

So Scream Factory is not allowing retailers to accept preorders. Great

Just watched "Nightmare at Noon". This is one of the best relatively undiscovered B-movie action/exploitation films of the 80s. Brion James (who else?) plays an evil, mute albino who decides to poison the water supply of a small town, turning anyone who drinks it into a homicidal mutant with superhuman strength. Wings Hauser and his wife are passing through town, along with Bo Hopkins, who has hitched a ride with them. Upon discovering what has happened, they team up with the local sheriff (George Kennedy) to rid the town of its mutant residents and take down James and his henchmen.

Everything about this film works. It strikes the perfect balance between absurdity and well-executed action. Hopkins and Hauser, two actors who love to chew scenery, get ample time to do that, clearly having fun with the material. And Kennedy, sporting sideburns so large they threaten to become mutton chops, could have easily mailed in this performance, but the guy was a true pro and gives a typical George Kennedy performance.

This film has Western elements (making several obvious "High Noon" references), but adds explosions and homicidal mutants to the proceedings. Some of the highlights include Hauser's wife (Kimberly Beck) being contaminated, being locked in a jail cell, and going absolutely batshit crazy. Beck's role description must have been, "Act like you're on PCP while being locked in a jail cell." Another incredible moment is when Kennedy guns down the town priest who maniacally charges at him with a knife. If watching George Kennedy gun down a priest sounds entertaining, then this film is for you.

Directed by Nico Mastorakis, a fairly competent director who was often hamstrung by a lack of budget, it hits all the right notes if you enjoy trash like this. I'm a huge fan of Kennedy, Hauser, Hopkins, and James as well. They're four actors that you ideally want in a film like this. This is by no means a great film in any traditional sense, but it is fantastic if you're looking for absurd insanity.

It’s pretty easy to cancel a preorder at most places. SF has denied having certain titles before, only to announce them in the near (sometimes very near) future. I don’t know why people bother to ask - SF won’t confirm anything until they’re ready to announce.

I can recall SF doing this just once. In the Death Wish II thread, Cliff said something like “don’t order an import” before it was officially announced.

Maybe at the end of this month or next month they will announce it.

Candyman CE would be perfect for those who don't have region-free BD players like me for example which i can only play region 0 and i'm a casual person.

I watched the CE of In the Mouth of Madness yesterday and WOW what a transfer! looks better than my old DVD on PQ as you think it was made last year and nice extras even about the creature effects on how they did it and a nice new commentary which is an improvement over the first one which has the old commentary.

From what I seen there are few people who will get the Arrow if Scream might release it. So even if Scream did it wouldn't matter to some people.

Maybe a smaller few of them only because of what they think the PQ would automatiacally be like. Which I don't think it would be any worse than Arrow's since SF scan comes from Sony who has done the best 4K's out of the studios.

I've already preordered the Arrow version, and even if Scream announces it -- I'm going with Arrow. Their releases are better suited to us collectors.

If Scream has it, they’ll be using the same scan as Arrow. They got it from the same place and the same people oversaw it. What it comes down to is the encoding, compression and bitrate. That’s where Arrow has the undisputed edge. The supplemental material is another unknown but Arrow’s got a solid amount thus far.

The correct aspect ratio for what, Candyman? If so, Arrow seems to have the correct aspect ratio listed. Why do you think SF would have the correct aspect ratio?

Arrow sometimes misframes their releases Hellraiser 3 and Creepshow 2 for example. People always call Shout out for flaws, only fair we call Arrow on theirs as well.

Actually they should be using Sony's 4K scan since Sony owns it in the US and not in the UK. Which I think is from Universal over there. Even if Scream uses the same scan as Arrow they will have a director & cinematographer restoration. Which I doubt Scream would do anything to it since it wouldn't be cost effective. People talked about bad compression and yet I have never noticed any even if a BD I have has that.

At least wait until comparison caps show up if people actually care about that like they say they do. Unless it's because Scream has it so I won't get it.

Yeah, Arrow's misframes are a rampant scourge. Major problem on all of their titles - better to avoid the label altogether
