Looks like I won't be getting my copy of Creepshow from Family Video. Shit like this is enough to turn people off from physical media collecting in general as defective titles, limited retailer options, bungled release dates, and bullshit strong arm tactics pretty much cover the full gamut of ways a distributor can screw with a buyer.

Who ever would have thought that Shout Factory would go from the people's label to enemy number 1? It sure looks like I'll be buying a whole lot less Scream Factory titles in 2019. At this point I wouldn't shed a tear if they were forced to close up shop in the near future and I am now actively hoping that they can't get any more licenses, as the last thing I want is for more titles to be tied up in this level of BS.

I've been thinking about doing a road trip there for awhile. I think I will do it after the new year. Seems like an awesome little store.

One thing I don't get about Scream is why are they screwing with collectors? The mainstream crowd isn't buying retail blus from them. We as collectors know what pricing should be.

It really is. I go in all the time just to browse. Makes me miss the days of a vhs rental shop.

Scream Factory rant starts at 17:19
Scream Factory is confirmed to still be strong arming small shops and price fixing.

He has to mark up all the Scream titles on his website. He says his in-store (Tampa, FL) prices can still be his normal pricing.

Get the pitchforks ready.
This is so ****ed up. Definitely reeks of new management trying new ways to squeeze every last penny. **** business in general. You have to be real scummy to squish honest, hardworking little guys.

They're the only label doing this, no other label seems dumb enough to go this route. There's at least 10 relevant independent labels in the US alone, not to mention all of the labels in the UK and other countries, so it's not like Shout Factory doesn't have to worry about competitors getting the dollars of collectors.

We need a catchy hash tag to get their attention on social media.
I'll tweet them his video. He even said to do it.

Another thing that's particularly ludicrous is they have a bunch of re-releases on the slate, of many high-profile films that are likely owned by a lot of collectors. Do they think people are dumb enough to go, "Durrr, let me pony up 30 bucks for re-releases of 'City Slickers' and 'Hang 'Em High' that I already own,"? It's not like they're consistently pumping out films never available in decent releases.

This whole strong-arming debacle really turns me off from supporting them. I have bought many of their titles and still plan to buy more. I won't buy directly from their website, Amazon, etc. I can't get it second hand or from site like Hamilton Books, then I will strongly consider importing. I feel bad for the little guys like Grindhouse Video. SF shouldn't **** with his money.

I figure I'd just post your original message that shares the video link and the time code on each of their posts from now on until i get kicked off their page. If enough people start doing that, others will be made aware as well and we can hopefully stir up enough of a ruckus to make all the bad press impossible for them to ignore.

As much as I like SF release I just can't keep supporting their recent practices. I wish Arrow had gotten alot of their recent licenses. I've been delaying getting a new region free player for awhile now since my old one died but I'm going to pick one up after Black Friday which should cut down on my SF purchases. I already cancelled all the pre orders I had directly with them.

Based on what Grindhouse Guy said about the returns rate, there's going to be a lot of retailers stuck with excess Shout product that they can't move, so I would expect resellers like Hamilton to likely be a good source in 2019, if this practice survives the consumer backlash.

Yeah, charging a premium for "Creepshow" or "The Mangler" is one thing, that makes sense, horror films still sell very well. It really annoys me how not definitive their re-releases are, too; if you're gonna charge $30+ for a new version of "The Jerk", at least include the deleted scenes that have shown on TV. At least *try* to justify the cost somehow.

Not only are the double-dips sickening. but given the price hikes and the screw-ups with their releases, i.e., technical glitches on discs, shipping issues/delays, and damaged items in the mail, it's gotten to the point, that I cringe when there's a new announcement that Shout/Scream will be releasing one of my favorite films on blu ray.

Ever since Shout! / Scream started descending into a manipulative monster, I have spoken out but remained weak on taking a hardline when titles I wanted were released. This is it. I am finally motivated to stand by my convictions and stop buying their products. I have spent hundreds on their releases every year since they started and I will gladly now give that business to Arrow and other deserving labels that treat their customers with respect and offer outstanding products overall.

Scream Factory will NOT learn their lesson until honest collectors like you guys stop finding reasons to make excuses for them slapping you in the face over and over. Vote with your wallet.

I was a huge fan of Scream Factory from the beginning, but I had to stop buying their films as I could afford to drop $30 a title. I want them but films like Brainscan would have been around $19.99 come release day a year ago (heck even 6 months ago). I'm trying to pick up their releases through other retailers but will not purchase directly or from Amazon anymore.

Yeah, I really hope Shout either sees that video or they see that their pricing practices are now affecting their bottom line and their sales are tanking. Because it’s gotta change. I’ve canceled literally all the Shout Factory preorders I had in place, including Single White Female which is a huge title I was excited for. But there’s no way I’m paying $30 for it.

I’ve never been one to complain much about price, but... when I used to be able to regularly get SF titles for $17.97 on release day at my local Bull Moose, it makes it a very difficult pill to swallow to now have to shell out nearly twice the price for the same thing.
