Let me rephrase - if you paid attention to other threads, you'd be aware of good deals that are regularly available from other labels. If you limit yourself to pre-orders, everything is going to be too expensive anyway. I can't give you specific advice about Canada, but I know there are plenty of people on here from Canada collecting. I can understand if Criterion isn't your thing, but if you like Shout, you should at least be collecting a few Arrow titles too.

I would love to collect Arrow Video but each title is 8-10$ more than a SF from what ive seen so I just collect what works best for my budget. I do appreciate the advice though thanks!

Yes I have a girlfriend. She's smoking hot.

What's her name?

You wouldn't know her, she doesn't go to our school.

What school does she go to?

... She's Canadian.

Just bit the bullet and placed a DD order to catch up on my shout titles....bloody hell that was expensive. even with 15% off, the postage fees and conversion aussie dollar rate, it was about $38 USD a title.

I don't think i can keep this up shout, as an international customer you've lost me. I liked the good old days when DD did new shout titles for $22.99. then the international shipping wasn't that bad.

Jumping in on the Canada discussion as a fellow Canadian (we're all friends up here in our community of igloos). As a collector myself with a fairly large and diverse collection, it's true that a lot of these more boutique labels are stupid expensive up here. HMV used to be reasonable as Tylur mentioned (sometimes they'd have Shout at 2/30 or 2/40 depending on the title) but outside of that, stuff like Arrow, Criterion, Vestron, Warner Archive are all quite expensive MOST of the time. Right now there are a few Criterion discounted on Amazon for around $30-32. There was that crazy Arrow Last House on the Left for $10 or so for a while (error maybe?). But most of the time it's dumb. Sure different retailers have sales and deals but you factor in currency, shipping and the gamble of if you're going to get charged duty it ends up not being much of a sale anymore.

I think I have one Arrow title I got for around $20 when HMV was going out of business. My Criterions are from when the dollar was equal and they had a 50% off sale. I have one vestron title that was reasonable given it was the Wishmaster set and had multiple movies. Outside of that, we're paying $30-40 for any of these movies. Do I want Class of 1999? Yes, but I'm not paying $40 for it. All things considered, Shout seems reasonable to us and whatever crazy pricing, retailer nonsense has been going on hasn't really affected us fortunately. Amazon has been the best option for a while and prices only went up maybe a couple dollars?

What baffles me is that people are fine paying $25-30 USD for Vestron titles, which should be cheaper because they're coming direct from Lionsgate who already owns them. From everything I've read, quality is just okay and there's some smoke and mirrors with a fancy slipcover. Maybe it's because people got used to Shout's older pricing, but keep in mind we're looking at new, possibly more expensive licensing agreements. Quality control on discs, shipping, etc. is a fairly new thing that hopefully gets ironed out. I get the Arrow and Criterion argument because they really do put out a top notch product most of the time.

Sale on Canadian blus? From Criterion and Shout and others? Rarely happens. I agree with Tylur, I've always had to pay around $30, at least, for a Shout release. Criterion is easier more than that (at least $35). There have been a few sales on both recently on amazon.ca but really nothing to get excited about. Importing is almost never an option, with customs and the dollar being the way it is, doesn't really make sense. Welcome to the Canadian Movie Buyers club

I sincerely cannot imagine only collecting Shout/Scream. Makes my stomach hurt. All those amazing, strange and lost titles. At this point the stuff Scream and Shout are releasing already have dollar bin blu-rays you can get at the Dollar Tree

I’ve bought plenty of Code Red/Scorpion releases distributed by Kino on amazon.ca for under $20... Love Me Deadly is currently sitting at $14.95 on there. Last week I bought Arrow’s Doom Asylum for $25 on amazon.ca.

I definitely agree that buying blu-rays in Canada sucks, but there are decent deals to be found... the Kino sales from their website are always great, even with shipping and exhange rates, it comes to about $15 a disc... Arrow sales also got me some titles for $20 a piece...

I'm not really sure folks are ok with Vestron's pricing so much as that they just don't complain as loudly given the limited release schedule. I'm the rare exception that has pre-ordered every title immediately and continues to support the line at the higher prices, but I can afford to do so only because they release films only a handful of times throughout the year. Lionsgate also has demonstrated that they will allow retailers to discount their Vestron titles significantly if you are patient. Scream Factory in it's current state has inflated prices on everything they release (not just the few really special editions they put out) and these new prices are at or above what even Vestron is charging. More than that, Vestron allows retailers to set their own price points so jumping between retailers can and usually does result in different prices. Scream Factory has done their best to remove that option which is really the biggest sticking point for most of us. Additionally, with this new status quo, Scream Factory has yet to demonstrate that they are going to provide any sort of real sale/discount on their titles.

Say what you will about Vestron's, Arrows, and even Criterions pricing models (I personally hate the way Criterion does things) they have each demonstrated that with a bit of resilience, patience, and research, you will likely be able to find their titles at or below the level most folks are clamoring for (Old Scream Factory pricing).

Picked up Creepshow with the sale price currently at $28. This should be the normal price for this release with other new releases priced around the $18 mark. I cancelled my orders of Candyman, Trick 'r Treat, and Starman after they jacked up the prices. Hopefully we will see them return to a normal price in the near future.

Thats a bit too much on our side. $30 creepshow. $25 collector's editions and $22 for others. With the most important part being retailers allowed to charge what they want.

Just received the Critters boxset from amazon.ca, it hit 48.99CDN which I am happy to pay. Like that it's standard sized cases in a sturdy box. Would of liked a booklet included similar to Arrow LE's but still overall very happy with the looks of the set so far

Only $19.87 USD vs. $27.57 USD in the US. Question is, why is SF allowing Amazon to sell below MAP in Canada?

Could be they don't take the exchange rate into factor for .ca . It's pretty strange but pricing has not changed for us. I was getting most of the collector editions at 28.99 two summers ago.

I don't even know who amazon.ca is price matching to. I couldn't name another Canadian retailer that sells SF...

Lol that's what I've been saying forever on this board now, which is part of the reason I'm not understanding all the complaining going on. Bestbuy was selling them for a bit, but not cheaper than amazon. Sunrise is selling them now but doesn't have prices online. Let's just keep our fingers crossed they don't go up to $40 each like Vestron. Although I did notice the key on amazon.ca is to pre-order. The prices are quite a bit cheaper, and they automatically adjust if there are any price dips. For example, I ordered Candyman around $30, it dropped to $26.55, but now it's $36.99.
