Unless a miracle occurs, it's not happening while Mann is with us. Kino had The Keep, were going to give it a 4K restoration, but the release got nixed (presumably because Mann caught wind of it). Scream aren't going to fare any better. As for Deadly Friend, I'm guessing Warner might have plans for that one themselves, but perhaps Scream can get to it eventually.

I feel like the only way "The Keep" is going to see any kind of High Definition presentation is if one of the many online groups purchases a theatrical print, scans it, performs their own clean up, and dumps it online themselves.

That, or maybe an overseas company (UK, Aus, though I'm thinking Germany) could have better luck (though I'm not sure if they'd get access to the negative, might have to settle for something less).

Hey guys just because they haven't released a warner title lately doesnt mean they're done... keep in mind they are most likely balancing a few deals... universal, MGM, fox, sony, hammer, etc... they have a set plan for releasing and when they release it.. and most of warner titles seem to be heavy hitters which means prolly wont see any till definitely October or sdcc.. maybe something for july... anyway.. if we dont see any warner released for October or sdcc.. then I'd start worrying...

yeah, I agree that at this point, with the exception of maybe a few surprises, we won't see any BIG announcements until July.

I still think that with this being the 35th Anniversary of Elm Street that we may see a UHD release of it. My preference? Make it Screams first UHD release and release a box set with new scans of the sequels and make it as stacked as possible. Make the set that is currently out now look like child's play, and no I'm not talking about Chucky!

Freddy deserves better, aka, i want some 4K UHD.

I wouldn't be surprised if Scream's first UHD release was The Terminator.

I keep forgetting that The Terminator may in fact be a Scream release. I could go for that as well! I'm just a way bigger Freddy fan than Terminator haha.

It had better be! If Kino can release Hannibal on UHD, I’d think Shout! Factory could do the same for The Terminator. The Terminator is a modern classic with a huge mainstream fan base. Hannibal is... a belated sequel to a modern classic that I probably haven’t heard mentioned once in the last ten years.

IMO, out of Shout’s entire catalog, Terminator would undoubtedly make the most sense to make their UHD debut (along with a standard BD, of course).

This is exactly why Kino was able to release a UHD of Hannibal and why I don't believe Scream Factory will be releasing a UHD of The Terminator. The Terminator franchise may be too big to license out for UHD. A new Blu Ray through a licensed distributor though? That seems like it's more than fair game.

Since they seem to be on a fox kick.. I'm guessing Edward Scissorhands, Wrong Turn, or The Vanishing for Collector's editions...

100%. MGM has released Terminator numerous times on their own over the years. My guess is the 4K is coming through them directly. Whether it's this year or sometime in the future, who knows.

Didn't Warner Archive rerelease Deadly Friend on DVD not too long ago? If that film ever comes to Blu-ray (and I bet it comes this year), it will be through WAC.

It also drives me nuts that stuff like "Fatso" and "Jeffrey" are seeing a release from the Shout Select line over the much more widely known and requested "Cloak & Dagger" (1984)
I'm looking forward to seeing Pledge, too. Have it on preorder.

Thing is though, a while back the Kino Insider said that Robocop and The Terminator (along with Rocky and presumably the Bond films) were pretty much the only MGM titles off-limits for licencing. Evidently that has changed, so can we still presume that MGM are really that concerned with further home video releases, especially ones that require some effort? Arrow haven't ruled out the prospect of Robocop being a UHD release either, so if that one's possible, The Terminator might be as well.

I know at least with Susan Hart it’s impossible for anyone to license her movies, and Scream has tried with MST3K.

I think pretty much anything/everything is fair game for Blu Ray licensing at MGM at this point. UHD releases offer a fresh opportunity to make money though and so I have a hard time believing any studio would pass on worldwide releasing rights to a sub-distributor for a franchise that big. Terminator 3? Sure, but the first and second films are guaranteed money makers and sure to be in most collections of people that are going to buy UHD's.

The fact that UHD's aren't region locked is primarily why I have a hard time believing that we'll see too many main stream films licensed out any time soon.

Yes I know being a fan of something is bad.
I’ll try crying more when a label announces something I’m not interested in.

It was a regular (non-Archive) DVD release, part of some short-lived Terror-themed line (along with Dr. Giggles and The Hand).

IIRC it was a slow seller at first, but after people got around to seeing the Cannon documentary, combined with an under $10 sale price at Best Buy (which Amazon matched), sales picked up.
