Whiners. I’ve bought all my SF releases for under $25 often under $20. Someone always has them for sale, only one I paid over $25 for was Creepshow and it was well worth the $30 for the 4K Remaster, slipbox, and new features. Granted it’s the same with Arrow releases I bought their new Weird Science release for $20.

Nobody is complaining about Shout prices these days. Their prices have returned to "normal" (for the most part). Stop looking for arguments

![]() ![]() A middle-aged couple, played by Timothy Busfield (Field of Dreams) and Kathleen Quinlan (Apollo 13), leaves the city with their young daughter to move into their dream home, an isolated house in the countryside, with the awareness that their new location will come with its own challenges and financial hurdles. Unfortunately for them, the house is occupied by a horde of bloodthirsty feral cats who waste no time in trying to eliminate the new owners. During one terrifying evening, our bewildered protagonists must fight for their lives to keep from becoming a fancy feast for these feline adversaries. The 1991 made-for-television horror movie, Strays, which premiered on the USA Network, was directed by John McPherson, who had previously helmed several episodes of The Incredible Hulk, and written by none other than former teenage heartthrob, Shaun Cassidy (The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries). The end result is a fast-paced, but innocuous outing that could have benefitted from more sleaze and violence had it been given a theatrical release or been allowed to sharpen its claws in a less restrictive medium. In the hands of someone like Roger Corman, this film could have soared to B movie greatness, but, as is, it is limited by its production circumstances. A subplot involving the wife's flirtatious sister, played by Claudia Christian (The Hidden), putting the moves on the husband had so many possibilities, but they all fall flat. The heroine and her sister do not even have a cat fight. Also, the two leads are both wonderful actors, but they seem somewhat miscast for this particular project. The feline mayhem, which is relatively bloodless, but nonetheless highly destructive, redeems this feature. These are some truly grumpy cats, and their grey-colored alpha leader, who is always one step ahead of the humans in intellectual terms, is the highlight of the whole story. If, like me, you enjoy watching multiple cats totally destroy any home besides your own, then you are in the right place. I am giving Strays a three-star rating, mostly because I love one scene where an evil cat perishes in a Jaws 2 electrocution death. This Scream Factory Blu-ray is mostly a bare bones affair, but the nice-looking transfer should make any fan of this film purr with happiness. Last edited by The Great Owl; 07-24-2019 at 09:34 PM. |

That depends on a persons taste. There’s a reason I own more Scream Factory titles then I do Arrow Video ones. At the end of the day though both labels are great & release stuff I enjoy.

IIRC, Michael Felsher seemed to think that Lionsgate no longer held distribution rights to Dolly Dearest, though it does appear that they have it up for streaming on Amazon. Perhaps home video reverted but streaming didn't?

I'm glad I held out and didn't buy the Warner Archive DVD-R release of Let's Scare Jessica to Death. For those who haven't seen it, it's an extremely atmospheric 70s horror film that I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't seen it. Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde is far superior to its lurid title, and it contains elements of Jack the Ripper and Burke and Hare along with the title character. It's definitely top-shelf Hammer.

Numerous times a year you can get most Arrow releases for $12 shipped from ArrowUK. If you are allergic to BBFC stickers, Barnes and Noble and DiabolikDVD have Arrow sales where it works out to $19 shipped. It's difficult to get Shout releases at that price. I'll add that Arrow's releases feel like a more premium product as well. Shout's slipcovers aren't as sturdy, usually have silly art, and they often come in thin/flimsy Eco cases. Arrow's boxsets are a thing of beauty and once again, Shout's are flimsy.

I've said it numerous times but I think Shout used to have really good sales like some of the other companies in the past (5+ yrs ago). It's how I started my collection of their releases. Ordered 15-20 titles all at once and they were probably about $10 a piece. Maybe a little more but definitely not the $20-30 I pay now. Now, if something drops to $20-22 on amazon.ca I think it's a decent price. Good mix of blind buys and stuff I wanted. Not sure why they don't do that anymore. At a consistent $20-30 in Canada I'm definitely not doing as many blind buys or purchases of stuff I kind of/sort of want.
The one I'm super impressed with an I see people buying a ton of stuff is WAC with their 4/44 deals, which they do multiple times a year. I'd be happy with something like that once a year. Unfortunately, us Canadians don't get to participate in that deal but still nice to see. |

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but BB has some SF titles on sale right now.
$14.99 After Midnight, $14.99 Nightmares, $14.99 Hellhole, and $17.99 for Poltergeist III. I’m sure there are more titles on sale, I was just focusing on 80s horror titles. |

I'm really interested to see how deep the deal with Paramount goes. Is it just horror titles? Did they pick up the Dead Zone? So many questions, but either way, glad we are getting some Paramount titles this year and next.
