I can only figure that people are blind buying because no self-respecting horror fan can be without The Body Snatcher in their collection, while Universal Vol 2 is mostly a dud. Crazy the things that sell well on blu-ray.
It's worth noting that this is probably in terms of what they were expecting for each title, individually, rather than x-title selling more copies than y-title.

Glad to see the Quatermass films and Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires sold well! That means they will continue to release the Hammer stuff! What a great time to be a Hammer horror fan, most of these had no HD release in the States and many of the DVDs had gone out of print. So glad to be getting these films, especially the ones I missed on DVD.

I feel like the Val Lawton titles (beyond Cat People) might have sold better as a pair of 4 movie sets, following the Vincent Price/Universal Horror model.

For someone who doesn't own any copy, which release of Ninja III is recommended? The original or the one with the new 4K scan?

Yeah that's the direction I was leaning but reading through the thread for the movie it seemed like a lot of people were happy with their previous release, but I assume they were viewing it from the point of view of double dipping.

Whats the best body horror and monster/creature movies from the Best Buy sale currently going on? I am considering:

-Pumpkinhead
-Night of the Comet (have not seen)
-Night of the Demons (have not seen)
-From Beyond (have not seen)
-Ginger Snaps (have not seen)

How are these movies? Any others I should consider? Thanks in advance!

From Beyond. Especially if you are a fan of depravity, gore, and goo. And if you are into girls, there is a really fantastic scene with Barbara Crampton. I'm a straight woman, and even I was very, uh, enthusiastic about the scene in question.

Did Isle of the Dead need as much work done on it as The Body Snatcher? Possible reason for it's cancellation if they didn't think their investment would pay off.

I would recommend From Beyond-definitely body horror, Night of the Demons is a fun creature feature(especially if you like Bauhaus), and Pumpkinhead has one of the coolest monster designs in movie history, IMHO

1. From Beyond: If you like 80s practical effects bravura like The Thing, The Fly or Re-Animator, this is a must. Do not hesitate.

2. Ginger Snaps: Narrative-wise, this is perhaps my favorite werewolf movie. It juxtaposes lycanthropy with female puberty (like Carrie) and the body change is gradual, developing the characters deeper than usual (like The Fly).

3. Pumpkinhead: Perhaps a bit typical, yet overall pretty well-made creature movie with some folk horror touches. The titular creature looks awesome. Of course, it's highly recommended for Halloween.

4. Night of the Comet: I really wanted to love this one because of its delightful premises, but ultimately left a bit dissatisfied. Perhaps I wanted the girls more autonomous in their own apocalyptic world, rather than just shoplifting a mall, captured by boys, saved by military/scientists and finding their secrets and so on. (But my recollection might be a bit unfair. It's been years since I saw it.)

Night of the Demons I haven't seen.

Oh, by the way, I don't think Night of the Comet is a body horror or monster/creature movie. It's a post-apocalyptic sci-fi teen adventure movie.

Eeeeeeeeeh to me the older scan looks sharpened.

Sharpening lines around the ninjas head/body here
Light edge enhancement effects around some branches/the mountains here
Again, light EE halos around the left side of two of the cops heads here
EE halos around the words on the sign and the word police on the car here

IMO a lot of the 'blurriness' is just natural softness, the other disc only looks sharper due to some light sharpening that was added. Plus I believe the 4K scan is from an IP so it is far from perfect.

There is some lost detail though, specifically in the more blown out highlights here and the loss of some detail in the raised hand (and even though you can tell is has some light EE halos, that detail in the hands palm is just not there on the new transfer), probably becuase they used a less tha n ideal source. it probably looks overall more natural, but there a slight downtick in detail (similar to how I see their Steelbook for Halloween 2). Take your pick of slightly less detail or a slightly more natural looking transfer.

- Pumpkinhead is a terrific monster movie with a sort of dark fairy tale atmosphere and a great performance by Lance Henriksen, my favorite role of his outside of Aliens.

- Night of the Comet is a lighthearted post-apocalyptic adventure with a witty script, great visuals and an awesome soundtrack. The lead actresses, Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney, are a real delight and play their parts to charming perfection.

- Night of the Demons is a fun flick with a "Halloween party atmosphere," sort of along the lines of The Evil Dead (but obviously not as good), and some wonderful make-up effects.

So despite having purchased it nearly a year ago, I finally got around to watching "The Unborn" tonight for the first time ever. What a fun little horror/thriller this turned out to be. Fun creature effects, an outrageous final act/conclusion and overall just an enjoyable cronenberg esque film that doesn't quite live up to his standards but still offers enough crazy body horror ideas to be safely lumped in with his style of horror.

Like The Manitou this is a film that you may or may not have had any real desire to check out but is truly one of the hidden gems inside the Scream Factory lineup. It bucks the usual popular trends and tells its own kind of horror film that doesn't involve bogeyman, ghosts, or killers. It's not a must own, but I am so glad I picked it up last year as it's definitely worth a watch and something I will revisit again. (I'm actually thinking of making my wife watch this one. LoL).

Definitely consider giving this one a look once you've picked up all your first tier wants as this bizarre little gem may once again scratch an itch for something different that you didn't know was there.

So do we know how long the Best Buy Shout Factory sale lasts for?

I tend to agree, the problem is with 3 months or so between titles they're getting lost in the sea of other releases. I'd just like to know if they're still committed to the rest of the films (if indeed they have them beyond Isle of the Dead).

To be fair, they continued with The Leopard Man after The Body Snatcher , and there clearly was an intention to do Isle of the Dead after that, so it can't be that dire. It would have been nice to get a specific statement from them about the releases going forward.
