If you haven't already, check the Recommend an indie horror movie thread in my signature if you are looking for modern films that may have gone under the radar. Lots of good stuff/discussion on many of those films. Page 1 has a HUGE list of stuff worth checking out.
I'm always lurking in that indie horror thread Got quite a few movies on my watchlist thanks to everyone's recommendations there.

Waiting for these November pre-orders to go up at Bull Moose. Since it looks like Big Trouble In Littla China won't be until December after all, I think I'll throw in Dracula as part of the November titles I get. Even though I've only seen it once years ago and don't remember much about it, I'm really curious to see the original version, and I know the price from Bull Moose will be one I'm okay with for kind of an unfamiliar title.

You might look at Beneath. If you've seen Creepshow 2, it's a lot like The Raft except instead of a black ooze, it's a giant fish that's stalking a bunch of teenagers who are stuck in a boat.

While the fish itself is an impressive practical effect, the rest of the movie is a little grating because ALL of the characters are a**holes and
[Show spoiler]the only character who is slightly likable dies early on
.

Both covers are awkward, and the ROAD GAMES is especially bad, but both are better than an overly-busy, floating head Graham Humphreys abomination.

The DRACULA cover at least has an artful quality to it. It doesn’t look entirely like bad fan art. While I do wish a different label were putting out LET’S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH, I will say I’m glad it’s coming out at all.

No, we really don’t. I would love to not whine about hideous cover art. I would prefer they didn’t do this new, cheesy art all the time for their collectors editions. Look at what Indicator/Powerhouse does with their covers. Pure class all the way. I never have to “whine” about them. Shout/Scream seem to be operating under the assumption that they have to make their products look like video games or comic books or they won’t sell. (I’d say it’s in line with the mainstreaming of comic/nerd/video game culture, the rise in ComicCons’ profile, etc., but that’s another discussion.)

As someone who enjoys the aesthetics of classic thrillers/horror films and, really, movies of any genre from the 50s-80s, I would prefer that the cover art reflect and honor those films’ aesthetics. What Scream and Arrow usually do is the opposite of that.

We’re all film lovers here (well, most of us). I wouldn't think it’d be too hard to understand that we would have strong opinions about aesthetics.

Then flip the cover over to the original theatrical art. Most love the new art

What if the crappy new art is on the slip cover? Can I flip that?

I don't mind the Road Games art but the Dracula one is horrid. Still can't wait for the disc itself.

You could take the slip cover off if it’s so unbearable to you....

All of Scream's commissioned artwork looks unprofessional, like the doodlings that you'd find at local high schools. Thankfully, they do provide the option of original artwork. I throw away all of my slipcovers and flip the artwork. It's unfortunate that they can't find or maybe afford a good artist, but kudos for them including options. Whatever sells, I guess.

Cargo (2009) never got a US or NA release. Any interest, SF?

😂 Not even worth responding to. Creepshow, Escape From NY, Sleepaway Camp are just a few of the amazing art they have released.

Their original art for Sleepwalkers is insane and wonderful, and I love it. It's the only slipcover I've kept.

I hope that's cause you didn't buy any movies with Paul Shipper slips?

I'm somewhat indifferent to commissioned artwork by SF, but lately its been hit or miss for me. I like some of the earlier stuff by Nathan Thomas Milliner and Justin Osbourn. Some of my favorite original pieces are EFNY, Mad Max, Return of the Living Dead (standard & deluxe versions), Carrie (deluxe), Trick 'r Treat, Jeepers Creepers.
