I have seen "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" (2006) It's a solid 2000s slasher film with some decent twists and turns. The blu ray that is out is pretty good. I don't know if Shout would do much for it.

I really wanted to like it, as I love everyone involved writing/directing wise, and I'm a sucker for horror anthologies. The first short was pretty fun? But, on the whole I found it to be pretty....not good. Ok, bad. Between the shorts themselves, and then the wrap around narrative that itself feels pointless/barely there. I know a lot of horror review/news sites have been singing its praises since its first festival runs, but...I disagree strongly enough to wonder if those were either paid, publicity "reviews", or are them just blowing anything certain directors even remotely touch. I was definitely disappointed. BUT, YMMV, so, if it shows up for streaming somewhere, give it a whirl. I wouldn't recommend a blind buy, though. |

I pulled this one out of the unwatched stack at long last, although I've owned it for years.
![]() After stealing millions of dollars during a heist at Camp Pendleton, a paramilitary team of five criminals hijacks an airplane, with the pilot and his daughter as hostages, and takes off for Mexico, eager for a life of immense wealth and leisure. Unfortunately for them, they are forced by circumstances to land the plane at an abandoned farm, where they are hunted down and picked off by scarecrows that have inexplicably come to life. The 1988 low-budget action-horror outing, Scarecrows, which was co-written and directed by William Wesley, could have fared reasonably well had it been given a proper theatrical release on these shores, but it has amassed a sizable cult following over the decades on the strength of its home video incarnations. This mash-up of The Evil Dead and Predator makes wise use of its limited resources, and I am pleasantly surprised at how well it manages to mold likable characters out of mostly unknown actors and how the fast-paced narrative blends guns, gore, paranoia, and occult supernatural lore into a cohesive whole. The titular villains are supremely menacing, due in part to their appearances, but also because of the sinister ways that they exact harm on our antihero protagonists. After killing their victims, they hollow out the bodies, stuff them, and turn them into more scarecrows. These scarecrows also have brains, and they use diabolical tricks to lure their human prey into the fold. One of my horror fan acquaintances has stated that this is the best movie that he has ever seen. I will not go that far, but I do get a kick out of this low-fi endeavor, and will be revisiting it frequently in years to come. This Scream Factory Blu-ray delivers the goods with pleasant, albeit not demo, video quality and an audio presentation that brings out the best from the crucial use of sound effects. The cast/crew interviews and commentary tracks are fun supplements, because of the rightful extent to which all involved are proud of their accomplishment. |

NIGHTMARE CINEMA is at least more....polished? Maybe? It feels a bit more competently made. Not meant as an insult, I think just because it comes from so many long time veterans vs most of the crew on XX. That being said, it also still felt like it was made by unknowns/newcomers because of how lacking the writing seemed to be overall. Which, putting into words, I guess I was actually MORE disappointed with NC? Since I expected more from the old timers involved? Again, the first short was pretty fun. I actually enjoyed it. So, if it's "free" somewhere (Amazon, Netflix, etc) give it a watch, and judge for yourself?? Just, maybe, do it on an evening where you really can't decide on anything else. |

I'm still hoping that Scream (or Shout or Shout Select) has King Kong '76 in the works, courtesy of the Paramount deal. They're might be some rights issues if what I read is correct but I'm still hoping.
What would be the best would be a release like the Select release of Earthquake that featured the theatrical version and extended TV version, which Kong had. |

They have the older titles still, but they no longer get the new titles from about The Manitou forward. I contacted the customer service department, but they did not know why.

Scream is trying to force MAP pricing and certain stores are telling them to F off...as they should.
