Got an order in for Scarecrows from a 3rd party seller for $25.

Seems like a pretty high-volume seller, so I hope it goes through and ships without getting cancelled. Fingers crossed. I've never seen it, but it seems right up my alley.

It's SOLD OUT on Shout!'s store, but it doesn't say OOP like all the others... weird.

Just adding on to my last post....I actually sat down and counted last night & I have 82 titles by Shout/Scream. It would be more, but I only counted each box set as one, and not the number of discs in it. It's by far the most I have by any company.

I guess the thing that bothers me most about this ongoing situation is that I bought all those titles when I could, and didn't wait for discounts or sales. I don't think I've ever ordered from their site before. Just Amazon, or Bull Moose music. But no, somehow I'm not a mind reader, and did not know in which order to buy these titles to avoid not getting them before they went oop.

The other bothersome thing, which is probably more personal is that Shout/Scream has a habit of releasing titles on blu that already had a fine release. They've even released some of them more than once with different packaging, like the days of Marvel wanting you to buy 12 Variant covers of Spider-Man even though there was nothing different about them besides the cover. Now I may be mistaken about this last complaint because I've read before about titles being licensed to companies for a certain amount of years, then going back again.I'd still like them to only release movies that haven't had the blu treatment. I'm not a businessman though, and I don't think like one when I'm buying blu's to enjoy. I'm thinking about how cool it is to be getting movies I saw as a kid on a crusty VHS tape being upgraded to hi-def. I collect for the movie only. Not the covers, slips, extras or any other bells or whistles. Those are all nice, but I don't need them.

Kino is doing the same thing and nothing has changed on Amazon yet that I know of, but with Scream/Shout the list came out, and it wasn't 24 hours before a few of the titles I want were ballooning in price, or out of stock. I thought we might have a month or two to grab some of these, but again, we're not informed about which titles are being cut off at what date. Will the next list be the same way? Sorry for the rambling, but I'm really frustrated as horror is my favorite genre, and when I try to keep up with the titles I want it still isn't good enough.

I have 82+ titles and another 47+ that I still planned on buying. I even spent 15 of my last 30 bucks on Swamp Thing on Friday (got it today) because it's been mentioned in the thread lately.

I won't go into debt over this, but it would be nice to have a few months warning. A list saying that these titles will remain at regular price until the end of the year and then will no longer be released by us would help us plan our monthly blu purchases better, and to avoid scalpers better as well. Off my soap box now. I'm whining because I'm frustrated & poor. There has to be a better way to let people know about the length that a release will be in print.

People aren't snapping these up because they're good movies - they're rushing to grab them because they're going OOP. Once they're OOP, they can fetch big bucks on ebay. Kinda sucks for those who are true fans and won't be able to find a copy after they become scarce. You snooze you lose I guess.
I'm sure there's a number of people looking to flip them for profit, but it's just as likely that people had put off buying these particular titles (other financial commitments or obligations, or other titles being of higher interest), and now with the news that they'll be discontinued, that results in them jumping in priority on people's "to buy" lists. It's a shame that these releases won't continue to be available, but that's business. Don't feel too bad for the "true fans" though; I'd imagine the majority of them already own these copies.

And to answer jcole, they aren't "good" movies, but they're entertaining as hell. If you enjoy slashers and Cannon Films, go ahead and order a copy.

The first one wasn't licensed from MGM, so I don't see it going OOP with the current batch. That said, it's a pretty good release, so it's worth having anyway.

Totally. It only happens with them. I guess online retailers only have a few of each of their titles in stock. I don't know, but it's really strange and annoying.

It would be nice yes. It may be unrealistic but, like you said, there must be another way to advertise which titles are going OOP because right now, with their usual way, once they announce a title is going OOP, you only have 6 to 12 hours before every store / online retailer mark it as "backordered" and prices go sky rocket high

I've loved Scarecrows since I rented it from Blockbuster about 30 years ago. Scream did a great job with this release. I hope you like it.

I understand what you're saying but that is essentially what Kwyjibo has done. The problem with officially saying things are going out of print is that unless it's a licensing issue where after 11:59pm on XX/XX/XX they will no longer be allowed to sell said title (like what happened to Scorpion Releasing a few years back) by announcing that a title is going out of print all it does is speed up the sell out thanks scalpers.

Think of it this way... If Shout Factory has been sitting on 800 units of a title for the last 6 months, and has already decided that they are not going to re-press said title, then technically that title has been out of print since the last pressing. Announcing it is out of print will cause a panic, orders will spike, and then the title will sell out that much sooner thanks to folks not wanting to miss out and scalpers looking to buy up stock so that they can charge a premium shortly thereafter. In this example announcing a title is out of print actually hurts the regular consumer thanks to the influx of folks buying when they likely wouldn't have.

Now if it's a licensing issue and old stock will have to be destroyed after a certain date then announcing early may actually have the benefit of helping Shout as it will allow them to move product that they otherwise will have to destroy. Since most of the issues we're facing now have to do with a bit of both column a and column b, it means that anytime anything is said regarding a title going out of print, it's going to cause a panic and titles are going to sell quick.

In my mind the best case scenario for folks not looking to scalp is for nothing to be said at all, but for Shout to work out a deal with Hamilton books or another retailer in advance to sell off all their remaining stock on the final day of the license for these titles at a discounted price so that Shout makes the most money they can without leaving money on the table and having to destroy their own product, while we as fans get the chance to purchase titles at a slightly discounted rate until whatever remained is all gone (like how Don't Answer the phone from Scorpion is still available from hamilton books despite the license having expired years ago). In this fashion, the mere inclusion of titles at Hamilton or other retailers would signal that something is likely up for said title and provide strong evidence that something is being discontinued without the need to actually say so.

Most licensing deals have a period for the Bluray/DVD company to sell of the left over stock if there is any. I dont have any of the contracts for my films handy, so I forgot the name for this. The end of a deal generally doesnt mean that it's the last day a company can sell off old stock. They get a bit of leeway, so they aren't stuck with a huge pile of discs.

I'm glad to hear that and thanks for chiming in. With nothing but second hand information to go on and the comments from past examples I could only share what I had seen/heard. I'm glad to hear I am/was a bit wrong in that regard as the thought of simply destroying a bunch of product after a set date/time is heartbreaking.

If a business is sitting on unsold stock of a title, and announces its going OOP, they sell said stock, even if no one wanted it for years and years. As much as it sucks that most of it is just being hoarded by scalpers, from the business' perspective, they finally get to free up space and make money. This is nothing new. I don't see any possible way to avoid it.

I agree, but the other poster was asking for a several months head's up notice and so my post was merely to illustrate that such a thing wouldn't actually help us as it would simply speed up the OOP status. If like most of us a person has a limited income, by not announcing a title is oop it potentially allows it to remain on the market for a few extra months and thus may allow more people to pick up said title before the final rush comes to buy up remaining stock once the OOP status is revealed.

Also I think another reason the titles SF announced as going OOP are selling out much faster then the Kino ones is because theyre horror titles. OOP horror films tend to spike up in price higher then non horror films the majority of the time (from what ive seen on eBay anyway). So people are wanting to get asap while the prices are relatively low.

I'm probably missing a few...

I'm hoping that the Hammer & Amicus movies are safe.

Some of these might be already oop. People can let that be known as well. Others might want to know. Sorry for the 2 long posts, but I guess if I wasn't a fan of this companies releases I wouldn't care enough to make the posts.
Some of the OOP ones on your list are still available from certain online sellers. Whereas the price isn't as cheap as it was a week or two ago, I think certain retailers raising their prices to approx $20-25 for some of these titles will at least deter scalpers from grabbing some to flip. Of course, it also means it'll be expensive to grab them yourself but it's still cheaper than what the scalpers will be charging soon.

One weird thing is you can still find/order most previous "OOP" Corman titles at deep discount and the like, stuff like Death Race, Forbidden World, Galaxy of Terror,Humanoids from the Deep, Battle Beyond the Stars, Starcrash.

If they're still available now, one can imagine how slow they must have sold back when they were in print!

I upgraded Forbidden World, Galaxy of Terror and Humanoids From the Deep to the new 4K steelbooks. Should I bother throwing the original Blu's up on the trading thread or are they worthless now?
