What's the deal here? I would understand if they were planning things, but with their Vestron line practically dead with like 2-3 films MAYBE coming out, why wouldn't they license out?

During the DVD days just before Blu-ray LG did lend out a few of there catalogue titles, it looks like once those titles sold well LG decided to pull back on licensing out anything. Once the boutique Blu-ray labels started, LG came out with the Vestron Line mainly because the person running their Home Media department was in support of a specialty line for their horror/cult catalogue films and could see that as a way of getting more $$ for them if it was part of a collectors line instead of just dumping them out as bare-bones disc or part of a package set. Since the person who ran their Home Media department left, LG has all but abandoned the Vestron Line (it's dead)! The only good news is that some of the catalogue titles are reverting back to the filmmakers and other licensing deals (StudioCanal/Dimension Films) are being sold to different studios....

Thanks for the input from the both of you. It just seems odd that they could be making money from these films, but are instead just keeping them in storage with no plans. Scream mentioned in a podcast a year ago that they have tried reaching out to LG, with no luck, and it looks like that isn't going to change anytime soon.

I feel like the next 6 months or so will be very telling in regards to Lionsgate owned properties. Given the worldly events of the last 3 months and the sheer amount of money lost for not just that time, but for the next year as a result of a slowdown/stoppage in production of new films and the release in others, I can see a scenario where Lionsgate will either A) crank out several new releases of their own, or B) perhaps be a bit more receptive to licensing as a way to recoop some of the lost revenue streams. My expectation is that if either of those scenarios play out we should start to see something develop before the year is over. Again, fingers crossed we see either a) the revival of the Vestron line or b) Scream Factory finally breaking through and snagging a bunch of titles.

So, today's likely the day for those new announcements, yes?

Like many, I'd like to see BRIDES OF DRACULA in its correct OAR (even the UK Blu is overly cropped), and it's a terrific sequel even without the great Christopher Lee...with an especially unique and satisfying dispatching of David Peel's Baron Meinster.

THE DEAD ZONE is right up there for me, and Christopher Walken, with his pale and pained demeanor, is a wonderful Johnny Smith - along with Sissy Spacek, he's a piece of casting perfection among the early Stephen King adaptations. I know many Cronenberg fans find this effort less edgy and personal than his "body horror" films but it's a marvelous work, both eerie and touching. The New England setting with its wintry gloom is hauntingly effective, and the overall low-key approach makes the shocking moments and bursts of violence all the more potent.

If Scream wants to throw us a curveball of sorts by announcing, say, the 1976 KING KONG - a highly entertaining adventure/horror/romance graced with a magnificent John Barry score - that'd be fine with me.

76 King Kong would be a really nice surprise.

Really like SF steelbook releases, keep hoping they will release Sleepaway Camp 1,2, and 3 in steel.

The 99 The Haunting would also be a good surprise.

Diabolik teased a big preorder announcement on Facebook for tomorrow morning stating that it is a favorite of theirs and that "the edition" looks amazing. Friday the 13th box set?

I think this is it. Was hoping for the Dead Zone, but can wait if we are getting the Friday set up for pre-order. Scream told me it was going to be a light month, but a Friday set is no way light.

Yeah by "light" I wonder if they don't mean in terms of the number of releases. A Friday box set and 2 other announcements is still light as far as numbers go... particularly for folks not interested in a possible Friday set. That said, it could still be something else... Are there any other films that we know for sure are getting new releases that would also warrant a tease like this? A re-released Hammer film doesn't quite fit the bill but there are other films/franchises that could.

If I remember correctly, Scream Factory considered last October a light month, and we got The Omen box set, The Blob, and The Devil Rides Out. So I could definitely see a light month being just a few releases, even if they are big releases.

I'm hopeful that Scream Factory will announce some 4K releases soon. A Friday the 13th box set that also included some 4K discs would be a great way to jump into 4K.

Whatever it is, it's a substantial title if Diabolik is going to make an announcement in advance of their pre-order. I wonder if the announcement will be later today and then the pre-orders go up tomorrow, or will we simply get everything tomorrow?

Either way, I'm hoping it's either the Friday set or the Dead Zone, but I don't think even the Dead Zone would get a pre announcement for the pre-order. It's gotta be the Friday set.

Friday set with a proper 3D version of Part 3 or a 4K UHD set of all the movies would be sweet!

My head would explode if the Friday box set turns out to be a UHD set. I don’t actually think that will happen, but hey. Perhaps in some alternate universe it’s happening right now...

Gadzooks!

A definite upgrade there as I still only have the old DVD.

Fingers crossed that Scream can produce something in relation to the fabled excised footage but whether it's on this release or not, I'll still be upgrading.

Nice! Definitely intend on picking this up, whether they find the footage or not. Event Horizon is a pretty crazy film that I never picked up on Blu. IIRC, there were issues with the US release so I’m happy to see this getting a new scan.
