If it isn't a Friday the 13th set, then I am leaning toward a US announcement of Dawn of the Dead. (Which would go a long way to further explain why Diabolik only took two days of pre-orders on the second sight release and was also very clear in their No cancelations policy).
Yeah, I'll be disappointed if it's the mentioned Synapse films. I'm not sure what else could warrant a announcement. Maybe Cemetery Man, but I'm hoping it's the F13 set.

From a sales perspective Scream should try to get this out in September/October when the mood for horror is high. I'm sure it would sell well whenever it's released, but the sales would still be HIGHER if it was released late September or October.

Is it normal that the Diabolik team would know about a big release the day before announcement?

IIRC, the last time they hyped something up before an official announcement was the Synapse UHD for Suspiria.

Update: I remember him saying something around the lines of "I usually don't get surprised by announcements, but this one blows my mind"

Definitely in for Event Horizon, I’ve always loved that one. Hope the surprise announcement is the F13 set from SF but something is telling me it won’t me . Hope I’m wrong though.

If it is the Friday set the sooner it's released the better. A set that size is going to cost a pretty penny one would expect and so releasing it during the holiday shopping period would not help anyone that has to Christmas shop. September would be my preferred month as October is usually expensive anyways with horror titles and November/December I try to focus on buying for others (Christmas shopping and all) and so dropping a $200+ dollar box set around that time would be bitter sweet.

They often have knowledge of upcoming releases for weeks in advance due to the sale sheets and retail ordering behind the scenes stuff. They knew roughly 2 months in advance of at least a few Vestron releases if I remember correctly.

Have to agree. Sleepaway Camp steels would rock my world
I'm not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but I'd be very surprised if all three got the steelbook treatment. I feel like if it's not a film they pretty much have in perpetuity at this point (like the films from the Corman library, like Piranha and Slumber Party Massacre), those rereleases are reserved for the "top" sellers, and it looks like the majority of the newly OOP titles were ones that weren't selling well enough for them to renew the license from MGM. With the sequels falling in that group, I'd be surprised if they did rerelease them anytime soon.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they did a steelbook for the first one, especially since that did sell well enough for them to seek out the rights to the sequels in the first place. I wouldn't get it just for the steelbook, but if it came with a 4K transfer and/or a NECA Angela figure, I'd be willing to consider a double dip (that's what got me to get the Night of the Demons steelbook, after all).

Most retailers will have knowledge of the upcoming releases prior to them getting announced to the public. It's led to a number of SF's titles getting leaked prior to the announcement (like the Halloween box set and Hell Night). I am hoping it's the Friday the 13th box set, just so I can stop trying to keep my expectations for the set even existing, let alone the specs, in check...

I hear you, pal. I'd love a big monster set, but I'd be happy with at least some cool cover art (that tin set cover...)

I actually didn't have an issue with the tin cover; I thought it was fine for what it was, and I never personally had issues with scratched discs (although I realize I was probably lucky in that regard). That said, I do recognize that there's room for improvement, so I'd be happy to see them take advantage of that.

Same with A Nightmare on Elm Street, to be honest; I'd love to have similar looking sets to (what I consider to be, anyway) the big three slasher franchises.

The only problem I ever had with the tin was displaying it. I felt obligated to display it facing outwards, since neither side of the spine had any writing to let you know what it was, and it looked ugly displayed that way.

Yeah, that cover was awful. Not enough comic book style floating heads. I hope the upcoming set has a floating heads for all the cast from all 12 movies.

What your saying makes sense, didn't know part 2&3 weren't good sellers. Slumber Party Massacre steel is what got me hoping they would release these in steel.
That aside looking forward to their Event Horizon release.

I think there's a lot of middle ground between the tin art and some floating heads...

True History of The Kelly Gang was also put up for Pre-Order for a release in September.

I really hope the announcement, at Diabolik DVD, is a 4K and Blu Ray Friday the 13th set. After the Dawn of the Dead 4K set, it’d be great to pair that with a Friday 4K set.

That's fair. I still keep mine on the shelf with the spine facing out, since I don't own too many large tins in my collection, so I can figure out which one it is pretty quick (especially since I'm trying to keep everything fairly alphabetical). That all said, I love how the Halloween box set's packaging looks (minus the eco cases, which I made a point to rectify), so I'd welcome one just like it for Friday the 13th.

I should note that I can't confirm that they were poor sellers; it's honestly just a guess. But looking at all the titles that DID go OOP, it's an easy assumption to make. I can't picture titles like Ghosts Can't Do It or Crimewave being huge sellers, for example. The only title going OOP that I know WAS a good seller is Ninja III, because they rereleased it as a Collector's Edition, but it's likely to assume the sales have dried up at this point. Otherwise they'd look to renew the license.

Plus, let's look at some of the titles that haven't gone OOP yet, that are also MGM titles. The Howling is still around. Lifeforce is still around. Escape From New York isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The Fog isn't going OOP. Mad Max isn't going OOP. Those are all bigger titles that you know sold well, since they DID do steelbooks for those (except for Max, which ironically may be one of their best selling titles). It just stands to reason that if they're letting the license for a title go, they likely didn't feel it was worth hanging onto the license in the first place.

Now Slumber Party Massacre is one of the titles from the New Horizons library of Corman films, which they outright bought. So they basically have those titles (along with Piranha, Rock N Roll High School, Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World, etc.) in perpetuity, not to mention both the original Blu-Ray and the trilogy set on DVD were popular releases, so it's not really a surprise that it would get the steelbook treatment.

That said, you never know. A few years ago, I wouldn't have expected them to have gotten titles from either Warner Bros. or Paramount, so things may always change.

That DiabolikDVD tease definitely reads like it would apply more to a singular film than to a series. I don't think it'll be a Scream Factory title, and it wouldn't surprise me if the title in question turns out to be something that's relatively obscure.

I wonder what it could be then. I’m sure it’s not A Nightmare on Elm Street.
