How reliable is the gentleman from Grindhouse in terms of inside info? Or, I should say, how accurate?

I would say mostly reliable? They license out a few films themselves, so I would think they would know what's up for grabs or what's been picked up.

ACTUALLY, never mind. That's another company. My mistake.

Yeah, I was referring to Mike from Grindhouse Tampa. The Kino insider didn't know anything about the film Alligator so that kind of debunks the Grindhouse "Insider"'s inside info

Grindhouse Video and Grindhouse Releasing confuse me on a regular basis. Just now I had to double check to see if they were affiliated.

I know a few people doubt Geekgab, but they still seem pretty accurate so far. I asked them about a US release for Dawn of the Dead instead of saying yes or no like they always have done, they gave me a two emoji response. A face with a zipper and another face saying ssshhh. This really doesn't mean anything, but I still think it might be happening and I think if it happens it's going to be Scream or Criterion.

Fingers crossed for Alligator, Fright Night Part II, Dawn of the Dead and Near Dark.

Near Dark
Fright Night: Part 2
Alligator
Deadly Friend
The Keep (hugely unlikely)
The 3 Peter Jackson early films

Of course, aside from Deadly Friend and The Keep most of these aren't with the major studios and have proved elusive, so I imagine large sums of money will have to change hands (and that only really leaves Kino, Shout and Arrow, unless Criterion come to the party).
I'd probably put The Stepford Wives (1975) right up there. Possibly Flesh for Frankenstein (1973) and Blood for Dracula (1974) as well.

I'd love to see Shout Select blu's of Can't Buy Me Love, Splash, and Stakeout.

Also, if Paramount still has a deal with Shout I'm praying for Summer School and Necessary Roughness. I know, this isn't the Shout Select thread, but I can't think of any Scream titles I'm hopeful for, except for maybe The Lost Boys CE, Near Dark, or Dracula 2000...

Some of my hopes for "Big" titles:

Horror:
-Poltergeist (maybe a 40th anniversary collection)
-Child's Play 2
-Beetlejuice
-Mad Max 2 and 3
-Westworld
-Mars Attacks!
-Xtro
-A Nightmare on Elm Street films
-The Howling 4K

Non-Horror:
-The Police Academy Movies
-Blazing Saddles
-Howard the Duck
-The Addams Family and Addams Family Values
-The New Line Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Films

Also, announcements that their deals with MGM and Paramount have been renewed/expanded (the latter now including Miramax titles) and a new deal with Disney/Fox.

Has anyone ever asked Scream about a film and they responded and said they had no plans, but a few months later they actually released the film? Has that ever happened?

I'm sure it happened with Candyman.

IIRC, I believe they did that with Candyman, even after Arrow announced their UK only release. Then they announced it a few weeks later.

Interesting. I somewhat remember that happening. So they are willing to lie to hide upcoming titles it seems.

Yes, yes and yes.

But we'll likely only get those titles when it snows in hell.

The Stepford Wives is owned by a pharmaceutical company and Paul Morrissey somehow has the rights to all the films he did for Warhol and he's become a miserable, insufferable bastard in his old age who's impossible to deal with so nothing will happen until he shuffles off the mortal coil. And even then who knows...

I'm actually surprised how many things don't leak online, but I guess secrecy is pretty important. Something like the Friday set had to leak as so many people were involved.

Either way, I really hope we hear about new titles soon as the wait has been killer. I really wonder if Scream has some of these "larger" titles for 2021, and I'm hoping Dawn of the Dead is one of them.

Sometimes it's less about lying, and more about managing the negotiation process of acquiring the rights the proper way. If Scream is competing with other companies to acquire access to a certain film, announcing it early or revealing their intentions to release it could jeopardize the entire process and they could lose the movie entirely.

I would say that generally speaking (because I'm just speculating), they don't acquire the rights and then sit on it for months like it's a secret they are trying to keep from collectors. Once they've secured the rights, their intention is to announce it and release as soon as possible to maximize the window of their distribution contract. Collectors in general need to just wait for them to announce something and quit being so eager to know before they can tell you. Accusing them of lying about whether they have the rights to a film shows ignorance of the entire process.

And to take it even further, if they did decide they wanted to sit on something as a secret, then that's their right too. Just because you've emailed them or asked them on social media two weeks before they announced something as to whether they have a release or not does not mean you are entitled to that information before anybody else. Give the company some space to announce it however they want. It takes a lot of time and effort to negotiate the distribution of a film - sometimes as collectors we don't appreciate how much work it takes.

Multiple times. I remember them acting like they didn’t have Demon Knight on a podcast then announcing it a week later.
