I see our beloved site (this one) has announced Elvira and Alone in the Dark. Do you think Jeff Nelson is ok with that?

*note the sarcasm for those who I am sure cannot*

i don't care about the halloween series at all, but if i did, i'd be upset about the new 4k covers. they look really bad. i understand the reversible art is usually the original poster art with shoutfactory, which is fine and appreciated - but what about the slipcase? what if these were steelbooks? the argument that these are just cover arts and they don't affect the movie doesn't work for me. i buy physical media because of the actual physical product, otherwise i could just as easily go full digital. if the artwork/packing sucks, i'll skip it. case in point: something i actually do care about, wkw films. the packaging on the criterion set was a big reason why i decided to skip it.

instead of comic book art, you're getting artwork that you'd find on a t-shirt/doormat sold at spirit halloween.
just as bad in my opinion

I won't name the site, but I worked at a big entertainment news outlet throughout the 2010s and if we posted anything even a minute before the agreed upon time, we'd literally get uninvited from screenings and events. Even if it doesn't affect the leaked release, it can very well impact the ability to do further deals.
While I see that being the case, I think this is much different. This is probably the 10th time at least that these films have been released, these aren't new releases that are spoiled in any way shape or form by being "leaked". And once again, they'd have no one to blame but themselves if what you mentioned were the case. They need to work on how they announce, plan and distribute if it's going to be a liability.

if i had no other options, like maybe being able to order an import version with better art (i skipped the recent paramount release of days of heaven and instead preordered the imprint version from overseas - would've saved a good 20-30 usd, but oh well), and it was something i realllly needed then yeah i'll probably begrudgingly buy something that i don't find aesthetically pleasing.
but the point i think i'm trying to make is that to some people, the art/packaging of physical products is just as important as the content.

Don't forget about me. In fact, I literally think they're amazing. I hope they make posters out of them.

Nah, I find a charm in how silly they are. I have my boxset editions for the theatrical posters, will likely be able to reverse the 4Ks for the same if I want to, and otherwise will most often only see the slipcover spines, so I can find humor in them as a complement to the boxset.

Maybe Shout should start telling us when we’re going to get announcements, like Arrow or Criterion. Also, if they really want these to be a surprise, how are they getting leaked by no-name retailers?

It creates confusion in the marketplace and with fans of physical media, who assume it's all announced. Yes, perhaps retailers shouldn't list them until they're announced, either, but this is all just a larger problem across the internet, where "reporting" "rumors" as "facts" confuses many who don't understand how much work goes on behind the scenes putting these projects together with the "official" contracts, distribution deals, and promotional concerns. If these bloggers didn't use the above terminology, I wouldn't have as much of a problem.
Agree, it would be one thing if they posted such as "Amazon has recently created entries for the following titles", but their posts come off as if they also have some inside/official source.

They're too studio generic. They remind me of Disney rereleases with scaled down artwork. When they put the two main characters against a plain color background.

Does anybody know who did the artwork for the Halloweens. SOTW is great looking I think but the others are…..interesting. Maybe they’ll grow on me. Wish they would have just did what they did with They Live and Prince of Darkness and just put the theatrical art on the slip.
