I hope Psycho 2-4 gets UHD release this year.

I wish I could get excited about these Carpenter 4K announcements but I was a "day 1" purchaser of those fancy Studiocanal sets released more than a year ago. Other than the crappy quality of the cardboard material, those sets are pretty much definitive and hard to top. I'll be double dipping on EFNY for the original artwork and, maybe, The Fog.

So let me get this straight;

-Shout decides to provide the best looking copy on 4K, which was the theatrical cut.
-While they could have released the international cut scanned from the IP on 4K, it wouldn't have looked as good as the theatrical cut, and doing a seamless branched version was too "jarring" in 4K.

So instead of making fans choose between watching the best cut of the movie and the best looking version of the movie, Shout made the choice for them, while still providing that better cut on Blu-ray disc.

The only issue I see is not putting the IP scan on another 4K disc since it would still look slightly better than the transfer on a Blu-ray disc. Even without that though, the release is still a upgrade over what was previous released. I guess everyone is just in good faith that someone else will do it right?

Due to the backlash, I wouldn't be surprised if SF change their minds and release the DC in 4K. Either increase the cost of the set or scrap the Blu-rays and have it be a UHD-only release.

They definitely should have included the international cut in 4K, and let people choose which they’re most comfortable watching. Any time I’ve been told that an alternate cut of a film that had non-OCN footage integrated into them was “jarring,” I’ve never thought so. Sure, I can usually tell which footage is which, but it doesn’t bother me. And an IP can look absolutely phenomenal (see Vinegar Syndrome’s Beastmaster UHD), so it’s not like all they have to work with here is some crappy theatrical print.

I suspect that messing with the prices or scrapping key components of the existing release, with pre-orders in place, would just be opening an even bigger can of worms.

Blind purchased After Midnight. Had no interest in the film until I watched the trailer, and it looks surprisingly fun. Guess we'll see tonight.

Scream didn't ship Communion and Blood/Vampire with it, but I'm sure I'll see it soon...

Universal Horror Vol. 6 dropped down to $26, but must have only been for a couple minutes as it was gone by the time I went to the page. CamelCamelCamel doesn't even register the drop, so it must have been vey quick.

I've always had a blast with After Midnight. Great anthology. Hope you do too.

Except for the usual couple people in every crowd, nobody is going to “upgrade” to the butchered theatrical cut on 4K. Nobody wants that cut in 4K. Everybody wants the uncut unbutchered version in 4K. We already have several excellent extras-packed Blu-ray editions of the uncut unbutchered version. We don’t need another overpriced one. This release is worthless.

In the same way that Criterion and Kino have them, does Shout have sales at particular times of the year? Are there any sales coming up?

Shout got my "Communion" to me lightning fast!

I ordered it and had it in my hands five days later.

I thought I'd be waiting a while on that.

So not very often then. That disappointing but I’ll try to make a point of checking their site every now and then, thanks!

Stumbled upon the double feature of Terrorvison/ Videodead combo pack listing on Shout's site, it's a very old release (including the DVDs) and it's listed as Out Of Stock, I remember I saw the Breakin' bd listing it was out of stock and didn't hear anything about going out of print until much later, it was unavailable!
anyways its nowhere else to be found except Grindhouse Video on sale for $22 (ohhhh)
You should save those $22 for Hot Topic Batman

I haven't stayed up on the news of The Sword and the Sorcerer since the thread is in the 4K section, but I noticed here it says it will be available as a standalone Blu-ray as well. Has this been confirmed yet? I couldn't find anything.
