You could easily buy a 50-60 in TV for 1080p content if you think it looks terrible on your projection screen. I'm a big supporter of labels like Kino that release tons of great cheap blus of stuff that will never get a 4k. I watch them on an 85" and they look good to me. I also own some DVDs and VHS of content that has never been released on blu.
Oh no I’m definitely a film fan, but I’m selective in what I’ll own anyway. Most films I’ll never watch more than twice, even my absolute favorites. For example, “Halloween” is my favorite film of all time, but I haven’t watched it since 2012. I’ve bought recent releases of it, and sampled the quality, but cannot bring myself to sit through it, because I know the film.

But I’m not buying a whole second setup just to watch BDs - primarily because I’ve already seen nearly all of them I own. Also, I should have clarified. I own many BDs. I just don’t purchase them anymore, and I rarely play them because they don’t blow up well… jagged edges and clearly defined pixels. DVD and VHS, however, are not for me. I can’t get past the abhorrent picture quality.

I know the market for these movies probably isn't great and I am happy to have them each on their own disc, but for the asking price I feel like a little more could have been done on the packaging side of things which is extremely bland...
Totally agree.

I have been looking at these for years, but always found them a bit too expensive for what they offer.

I also did not help that Eureka in the UK released two of the four films in the first volume in their own Poe themed collection.

I finally took the plunge during the recent box set sale. I would probably have bought them all, had it not be for me only discovering that they were part of the sale one of very the last days. By that point I had used most of the funds I had set aside for discs that month, so I had to settle for the first two.

Eureka have announced more of these Universal films, and they are a bit cheaper. Of course they only contain three films per set and not four like the Scream Factory releases. I think I like the Eureka releases just a bit better, but since both lines have about the same amount of exclusive extras, it probably comes down to who you think does the best commentary tracks.

I am probably so OCD that I will continue to buy both lines just to have them all. Nobody knows whether Eureka will release all the same titles as Scream Factory has done, so you might end up in a situation where you will have to pick and mix anyway to get everything.

One thing, though, I was surprised to see that both the Universal Horror Collections and the Paul Naschy collection, which I also bought at the same time, still came with slips. I guess they might not be limited for these releases?

I think you'd have to inhabit the VS thread to understand Rayjg's joke here. No idea where that particular longstanding rumour came from, but since VS don't have a Sony deal, and since Sony don't allow outside restorations, I think we can firmly say it's not happening. When NOTLD 90 eventually comes to 4K UHD, it'll either be through Sony, SF or Arrow.

Each to their own. I grew up on VHS and I love film first and foremost. The only way for me to watch Enemy Territory, for example, is on VHS. So based on your views, I would never be able to watch it again.

That is madness.

I own a 4K Dolby Atmos set up, so I am not some old school media activist either for clarification. I just don't understand how anyone can deprive themselves of so many good movies.

We are on the same page for sure.. I will have to look into those Eureka releases, thanks for the heads up!!

I think the slip might have only been limited for the first volume? The subsequent volumes seem to have mostly dropped the special features, but retain the slip. I could be wrong though…

I wonder if anyone made custom/individual artwork for these releases, would seriously consider purchasing some.

I f**king love NOTLD '90, more than the original, but unless they find the bits and pieces that were cut so that the film could receive an R rating I think I'm done with this one. Judging by the various interviews and articles I've read throughout the years I understand that footage may be lost for good. Damned shame too considering the film was Directed by master make up legend Tom Savini. I can only imagine all the good shit we're never going to get a chance to see.

I own the Sony blu of NOTLD 90 and thats all I ever need to own. Rewatched a couple years ago and didn't hold up as much for me compared to memory.

Love to see release Collector's Edition of Night of the Living Dead (1990) 4K UHD too. The Blob (1988) would be nice release 4K UHD as well.

I wonder if Dead Ringers will get a 4K UHD release from SF?

I heard someone say the SF Halloween 1-5 4ks are in Best Buy and they only have paper slips, whereas the original releases had those hard (chip?) boxes.
Can anyone confirm or refute this is the case?
I still haven't picked these up, if I order from Amazon or Target I could get paper slips?

I still seen them with the hard chip box in Best Buy just the other day, I don't think I've ever seen them with paper slips

If you get the thinner slips contact me, I`d be willing to trade them for my hard boxes.

Apparently Walmart are getting the slipcover editions in stock. Someone posted a pic the other day.
