I was going to place an order but decided against it for the simple fact that if the company is pushing off that responsibility to someone else, I can use another company. Any yes I know it was only $0.95 for it, but still, if the company can't guarantee your order arriving to you without damage, then that is a red flag.
It's optional. No company can guarantee a package gets delivered without damage, that's not a red flag whatsoever. The protection is also for lost or stolen packages too. And again, it's optional.

I know it is optional, but my point is, are they going to deny you a replacement over something that isn't your fault. Your package arrives damaged but you didn't get the insurance so you are basically SOL? No company guarantees it, but most companies don't make you pay insurance when you buy from them. Just like the post office, the sender is the person responsible for the insurance. It is optional, but you have to turn it off in order to opt out. It is almost like a tip, here tip us a dollar and you are guaranteed to get your package, if not, you are out of luck

Shout will still address customer service issues regardless of whether you bought their third party insurance or not. I haven't heard of anyone running into issues because of this. They sometimes ask for more proof when it comes to scratched discs, but that's another issue altogether. .In the event that something is stolen however, having protection makes it much easier to get refunded (assuming the service works as promised, than going through a shipping carrier or hoping that SF replaces the item (which they're under no obligation to do).

I do think the insurance option shouldn't be turned on by default. It should be something offered with a check box to check, not already checked by default

It would be awesome if Universal licensed out "Jaws 3" and "Jaws the Revenge" to Shout as part of their July 4K UHD lineup and they released both the same day as Universal's UHD of "Jaws 2." (7/4).

Marathoning all four films on 4K would be a great way to spend the holiday and enjoy a warm summer's day.

Don't waste your money. Someone had the recent Halloween UHD set of 6-8 arrive smashed and they were denied through the insurance.

Have to respond to this, as my experiences are completely opposite to this unidentified "someone."

I have made 2 claims (out of paying the $1 three times); once for the 4k of Cat People which arrived with a cracked case and a scratched disc (though I am fairly certain the disc was scratched before the shipping damage) and once for merchandise that was broken. Each time I used the provided link and sent a photo and was approved for full refund or replacement in less than half an hour. I chose replacement and received shipping confirmations the same day. They a!so automatically applied the insurance on the replacement order.

This appears to be completely separate from Shout Factory. The replacements were actually ordered through Shout using a specific credit card by an outside transaction.

Personally, on the rare occasions I order directly from Shout I will happily pay the $1 as it was so much easier and faster than the one time I dealt directly with Shout for a crushed steelbook.

I'm glad you had good experiences, but as others have stated, you should not have to pay an extra free for them to get it right. I sell on ebay/other sites, since pretty much the birth of the internet. I've had 2 times where the package arrived to the customer damaged, and that was because of obvious massive negligence on the shipper. If you pack your product properly, take an extra 5 seconds to make sure the product looks good, then you will be fine.

Too many of these shops pack things in a way that guarantees damage. A Blu-ray inside a thin "padded" envelope 5 times the size of the item, you KNOW that thing is going to go flying around. A Single Blu-ray in a box that can fit 2 box sets with a single air bag inside, totally not doing to get banged around! They make boxes that fit a single blu-ray/DVD, use them. Yes, they take a few more seconds to pack, but then you get a item intact. Look at Grindhouse/Diabolik/Orbit, or any other number of sellers. Their shipping costs are VERY fair, and I almost never have an issue.

The amount these places charge for shipping, they can front the insurance. 6.99 to ship me a movie? What are you doing with the extra 3 bucks?

Yeah, I wasn't addressing your points, just the quality for the actual service itself.

I agree, it shouldn't be necessary. But for me, as far as Shout is concerned, it's very worth the $1. I always order enough for free shipping from Shout anyway (not hard), so the extra buck is virtually nothing.

(And FWIW, the merchandise was excellently packed. I am almost certain it was damaged in the warehouse before it was shipped.)

I totally get that, but it's that they even offer it that feels sleazy to me. I've seen other sites offer it as well, and to me that says "Good luck getting this intact without it" when it's at checkout.

Not Shout/Scream, but a couple of labels I purchase from have said they will not cover any damage to their products if you do not pay for Priority/Enhanced shipping at checkout. It just feels wrong to me. As someone else mentioned, this feels like the current tipping culture now, where every business it trying to get you to tip at checkout for the most minute of services. I'm sure Shout/Scream get a cut of each insurance sold.

I am actually glad you have said it works, and as you said, it's only a buck, but it's just a symptom of a greater issue that I've been seeing personally.

I actually stopped using one particular independent dealer precisely because of that policy about paying for deluxe shipping because he won't support problems with packages sent media mail. I get media mail all the time from Vinegar Syndrome, Hamilton Book and Orbit; I find the rate of issues to be no different than first class or priority. That bothers me way more than the little insurance check box on Shout.

Scream should realize that slashers sell and made this a wider release. Probably FOMO is helping it too.

I'm willing to bet they're referring to GrindhouseVideo. They have a policy that if you choose Media Mail you're on the hook for any damage, even if the item you're sent was damaged pre-transit. You're allowed to return it, but the shipping costs are on you.

Yes. And I had ordered many times, and have had nothing but positive experiences. But recently when I ordered I found that disclaimer to be more and more off-putting, sitting there wondering if I should double the shipping costs because of it.

Are Rob Zombie's Halloween films locked out for Shout/Scream Factory? I think I remember someone saying rights are with LG, but just curious. I'm not a big fan of them, but it'd be logical for October releases, and I'd probably grab them for a reevaluation.
