It's depressing to read that these issues continue. Until they fix the problem 100% I'm going to have to carry on like this company and its releases don't exist. The last SF release I bought was the Friday the 13th set, I bought it twice but still couldn't put together a complete set of unmarked discs.

I hear ya. I also forgot to mention the 4K/BD copies for Creepshow and The People Under the Stairs being scratched up as well. As thoroughly exhausted as I am dealing with this issue I'm just glad that I get a mint replacement copy eventually or am able to mix and match to make my own mint copy but relying on that is no way to deal with the issue.

Agreed. Of all the extras I don't like and rarely watch more than once it's the boringly one shot talking head interviews where senior citizens sit next to a plant and wrestle with remembering stupid trivia about a production nobody should care about. Criterion is fond of including these too and they are so dull.

I don't think I've ever watched a Criterion extra. I'm getting drowsy just typing this

How many people get completely scratch free discs? Because I know people are getting scratched discs, and I guess it's frequent, but out of hundreds I've had one scratched disc. I'm trying to figure out how im getting so lucky? Do you think it's because I order from Amazon? I notice people who order from Shout Factory seem to get scratched discs. And this is honestly in good faith, I always look for scratches when I receive my new orders, and never ever see one. That really does suck for the people who keep getting them.

I don't recall ever getting a scratched disc. The only issue I ever had was a completely pristine copy of The Blob '88 stopped playing halfway through. They sent me a replacement right away.

I haven't received a scratched Shout disc (and I check them, thanks to this thread). I did receive a completely mangled Kino disc once and they replaced it, but I've been lucky with Shout I guess.

I haven’t gotten any scratched discs yet. I do check since it started becoming well documented on this thread. Seems like pure blind luck to me.

really feels like it’s the same five people who complain about scratched discs.

there are way more people who don’t get any scratched discs. myself included.

in fact the only time i ever got 4K discs that wouldn’t play were batman and jaws, warner bros and universal titles. but i didn’t complain in every thread and stop buying titles from either company because i felt like i must have been personally wronged.

Same here, I'm 0 for 40 of the Shout UHDs I have. Including the four Chucky flicks I just got.

Am I just super lucky? Wondering if I should I go pick some Powerball numbers??? Hit the casino and let it all ride on red??? Daddy needs a new pair of shoes!

(Seriously, I do really need some new shoes. I keep spending all my money on movies.)

I've had about half a dozen or so scratched discs in the last year or so. Of course there are more people who don't get scratched discs than do (or are at least vocal about it), but people (myself included) virtually never used to receive scratched discs because the protective coating is supposed to prevent that. If they did, it would have been a rare anomaly.

The problem with Shout Factory is not just that a lot of their discs are scratched, it's the indignant attitude they have towards people who raise the issue with them for even daring to ask for a replacement for damaged product.

I own most of Shout’s horror 4k’s and I’ve yet to get a scratched disc. 🤷🏼*♂️

As someone who has worked in home video for the last 20 odd years and handle new releases on a weekly basis, I can confirm that while scratched disc have always happened from time to time (usually from loose disc, happened a lot with dvd not as much on blu-ray), I have never seen the number of scratched discs coming out as over the last few years, mostly blurays but also 4ks now.

Shout does seem to have the most issues but Criterion is pretty darn close.

well i got all 4 of the new chucky movies and everyone had scratches on the 4k disc all the blurays are fine tho. maybe the reason some of you say that you never get scratched disc's is because its time to get new glasses or some better lights lol

Or maybe because of out the 100+ discs I've gotten from Scream factory, none have ever actually arrived scratched. That could be the reason.
