I'm interested in Village pf the Damned and Stepfather. I've been waiting for a 4k upgrade on that and Assalt on Precinct 13 for ages, so very happy to see a Carpenter film get a 4k.
Much better slate than Arrow's September. As big of a Jason fan as I am I have zero interest in buying a standalone 4k of any of the films. SFs Friday the 13th boxset is one of my favorite physical media things that I own and the only way I'll be rebuying any of these movies is if Shout releases a 4k version of the set. |

The R-rated is probably preferable -- the "Unrated" version only adds back boring filler which was rightfully cut from the theatrical, no blood or violence. Not a case of censorship, but one of marketing only.

All of the extensions in that version were also boring filler and unneeded CGI effects. https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4300 |

Yeah, I was considering passing on the 4K too but I'm now convinced that I don't need the DC. It's cool that it's included but it not being on 4K is not a dealbreaker. I'm a fan of DC's/Extended Editions but if it's just snippets of extra dialogue or scene extensions then it's just a curiosity

I had a few movies come in today, and they suffered the scratchfactory curse. Is it easier to ask for a replacement from Amazon or disc replacements from Shout? Also, noticed that Amazon now requires to send the product back in order to get a replacement, I guess gone are the days of getting a perfect set.
Also, Shout responded back to me with this: [Deleted] I guess Amazon it is. Last edited by tau31; 07-03-2024 at 05:19 PM. |

It was just a matter of time before Amazon started asking people to send stuff back if you wanted a replacement. The policy was too generous and ripe for abuse. Some of the Blu-rays I’ve received look like they were someone else’s return.

Three titles I'm definitely interested in - The Boy, The Stepfather and Village of the Damned (especially the first two titles). The Stepfather 4K Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack release is very welcome (yes, I have the Shout Blu-ray and I did like the master on that release, but I am hoping this new release will look fresher and better (loved the autumnal/fall look in the film when I watched the Shout Blu-ray). It's the highlight of this latest batch of announced titles (just one new video interview but it's better than having no new video extras). With The Boy, again a very welcome announcement as the year before last I'd had some help from a fellow member about which was the (at the time) best Blu-ray release to get of the sequel (Brahms: The Boy II) that included the theatrical and director's cuts. The fact that there are a handful of new video interviews included as extras makes getting this Shout combo pack release of The Boy a no-brainer. I didn't end up getting the UK and German Blu-ray releases of The Boy and it's sequel. I too was surprised to see (when checking Shout's website earlier) the list of extras up for each of the announced September titles. We don't normally see the list of extras/bonus features this early. I remain optimistic that one day we will get a US Blu-ray release of the two Stepfather sequels, as well as another Terry O'Quinn horror/thriller, Pin. |

Considering the sheer volume of the scratched disc issue and the number of returns Shout Factory has to have encountered over the last 4 years, the markup on their discs must be something insane for them to continue to utilize the producers they do and for them to still continue to make a profit. Any other business model would require immediate action to ensure profitability but with this going on at least year 4 now, Shout Factory must be making a killing to continue to ignore the problem.

I wonder if Village Of The Damned was a contractual release? NGL I can't see a massive want for it in 4K when the original is so good...it's not a The Thing or Halloween situation.

What excised bits are "boring" is completely subjective. If a commercially released cut has a longer variant, that is my go-to cut. I never go to watch the Theatrical of Dawn Of The Dead '78, which I believe was itself released Unrated and isn't censored for gore but has exposition type scenes cut. It's not always about missing gore/nudity. If a longer cut has never been assembled and the extra bits have only ever been available via a deleted scenes supplement, that's different. Not the case with Doomsday. If I'm going to watch my Arrow Limited Reanimator set, I'm going for the Integral cut.
