Depending how many titles you have, and unless you have an incredibly memory, finding the movie is gonna take some time. Logically, it makes no sense at all.

I don't even have that big of a collection, but incorporating new titles isnt that big of a deal. I put newly acquired titles in a row until the end of the month, then shift and add.

Once again, to each his/her own, but logistically it makes no sense and only works if you are the only person who is ever going to look for a movie.

My shelves are such an over crowded mess, that I am the only one that can find anything anyway. But, to be serious, everyone should collect what they want and shelve however they see fit. Who cares, it really isn't anyone else's business.

For a while the only Scream CE I didn't own was Garbage Pail Kids. And honestly I don't really regret any of the purchases, but SF was full of classics.
When they started doing 4K double-dips and slapping the title to releases that added nothing over the studio versions, I stopped bothering with collecting them all.

At least it's not a subscription service where you pre-buy every title without knowing what most of them will even be. Who'd be crazy enough to sign up for that?

I wish I had shelves like those. Not possible in a small apartment, sadly.

The majority of my floor space is taken up by a variety of shelving systems for my 4K+ collection. Some people decorate with knick knacks, I decorate with movies I'm perfectly fine with that since I live alone.

That would be great I’ve never seen it, but I hear how underrated it is so I’ll definitely be picking it up if it gets announced.

I keep films I don’t “enjoy” that still have some sort of historical importance. But other than that yeah, I don’t keep films that I don’t find rewarding in some way.

But “rewarding” can mean a lot of things. Sometimes it’s traditional enjoyment, or something is educational or informative. Sometimes it’s something as simple as just liking the musical score.

Wynorski spoke to this recently in the above video. Eventually something is going to come out is basically the message.

Oh I agree. I have a handful of films that have significance to me even though I don't care for them. But for me, the rule of thumb is that if it's not something I'll watch at least 2-3 more times in my life, I offload it.

I really waffle between these two positions. One the one hand essentially having my own video store with 10,000s of titles seems like it would be awesome, but I'd never watch them all, so it would be kind of a waste. On the other hand a manageable collection of a couple hundred of titles is really the true ideal goal, but what if I slimmed down the collection to what I think are my essentials, sold a bunch of stuff and decided that I want to watch title X, but I sold it and now it is now OOP and fetching $$$ on the second hand market.

It isn't common but I've sold discs and then many years later decided I wanted to watch it again and ended up buying another copy. It's nice to have a collection so that when the mood hits you can just pop a title in.

That’s why I only get rid of titles I know for a fact I will never watch again.

I used to purge my collection much more often in the DVD era and I did end up regretting selling some of the stuff I sold off. I don't really don't purge my collection anymore, but that might be due to the fact that it is more of a pain in the ass now that it was back then (I don't really want to deal with ebay/individual buyers and I have no used media stores near me.)

I do go through and occasionally purge a few titles now and then but they either get donated or given to friends or family.

I never get rid of a movie right away that doesn’t impress me as I feel that a good percentage of movies need more than one viewing to appreciate.

I Love all the wishlist ideas, I'll be sure to add them to the polls I'm working on for Scream/Shout Factory, and you can vote in them, in my signature, link there, and Later, I'll make a 4K wishlist for it too , and I have a film collection like Edgar, but I don't think it's nearly as big as his, I need to get more movies

This. My collection runs north of 4,000 titles including DVDs that I keep in spindles. Every single one of those discs are films I purchased because I planned on watching at one point or another. I never buy discs "just because". I do acknowledge that I probably won't watch every single disc I own within my lifetime but it's great to know I have a copy in case I ever do want to. I've said it before but it's worth repeating: it's not a race to watch everything before a certain time. It's all about having access to them for when the mood hits and not taking chances with streaming services

After this happened 5 times, I decided not to sell anything unless 1) I actually loathed the film, 2) my wife feels the same way, 3) there is no way in you know where where someone could even pay me to watch that film again.

Very few movies ever meet the above conditions as I do a lot of research before buying blind-buy movies. Even if I don't see the film for another 5 years, I never know when I will be in the mood to watch it again.

Found one October release, but don't get excited. It looks like they're doing a wide release of The Blob (1988) 4K Steelboook, that was previously a Best Buy (RIP) Exclusive.
