That one I'd love to upgrade, a nice and nasty piece of work from Bava.
From 88's blurb on the back of Hatchet: "Remastered HD Transfer from the 35mm Internegative with additional Cleanup performed by 88 Films."

It's been a while since I've viewed it, and I don't have others to compare it to, so I can't say definitively. I will say that 88 Films' release of one my very favorite Bava films — The Whip and the Body — was a great new transfer, and probably the best I've ever seen it.

I will aways give Scream Factory credit, they are still one of the the best boutique horror labels ever imo. For all the shit they get, I don't care, this set is awesome!

Hatchet's not included. There are a few titles not included in the Arrow box, but not that one. It appears that Kino still lists their DVD of that title, but not the Blu. They do appear to still have the AIP cut of Black Sabbath among their remaining Bava titles, which may explain it being missing here.

Good eye! Thanks for the heads up. Must've swung through their list of titles a little to quickly.

Will there be a standard edition of the Mario Bava box set? I know Arrow usually releases a standard edition at a later date, but I'm unfamiliar with Shout's practice with this.

No, this is the only set being released.

It would be a good idea if the Shout Official could chime in on why the Bava set doesn't have any new remasters, and why some different versions aren't included. A lot of people thinking this is merely a stopgap set while SF preps actual 4K releases, and I just have to wonder if that's even possible with their acquisition of these films.

Maybe depends on how well it sells? It appears to be a site exclusive, and many of those are really overpriced. I want to get this, but I'm debating whether to wait for a sale, but who knows if it will ever go on sale. I jumped on their overpriced, but pretty great, Classic Tokusatsu Collection on day one, and it's been on sale at least once or twice since I paid full price. It wouldn't be until after they sell out of the poster, but honestly, I have no use for the poster (and plenty of their posters collecting dust).

Gotcha. I missed out on the previous Bava blu rays largely due to the fact that they lacked SDH, so I may need consider this set. Hopefully it won't be too bulky with the book.

It's a shame they don't just hand these materials over to Tim Lucas to produce the most definitive version of this set possible, with what appears to be old masters (especially at this price), but this may be the best we see for some time.

I missed out on the Arrow set, and this has more films, and may be the largest set of Bava's films in HD that ever appears, but it still feels like a missed opportunity.

I wonder if the proceeds from these will be used to fund the 4K restos since they may be a bit tight with the Golden Princess pit they've been pouring money into.

I'll probably get this for the few Bava titles I need out of it. Just need to do the math and figure out if it'll be worth it.

Yeah, I was really stumped when I took a look at the set and didn’t see Tim Lucas listed at all on any of the extras. Seems like a huge omission on a big Bava set like this.

Is that thief Troy Howarth among the extras?

The've also buggered up with Bava's Polizioteschi by ONLY including the shitty Lamberto Bava version.

Fatboy, I love Euro. films too, but all I've ever seen you post is about Euro. films. Do you not like American films?

I wonder if there are rights issues with this one in the US, since Kino's blu-ray didn't include the original version either.

Correct. This is all they have rights to as far as the versions of films included as shown in this copyright listing of the deal:
