Cliff-- any chances of some classic Bob Clark horror films?

BLACK CHRSTMAS has yet to have a quality release--- dvd and Blu-ray releases were awful....

and DEATHDREAM is an awesome creepy flick as well...

I thought the BD for Black Christmas wasn't that bad.

Deathdream is one I have heard of, but never seen. Im gonna have to look into it. I think someone called it an Elm Street rip once. I wouldnt know though.

That's right. I haven't seen it in so long and when I did it was in the 80's. I should have remembered that though, since it had the guy from the Land of the Lost TV show in it.

Pieces is fairly common amongst fans.
Yeah, but it's still kind of obscure compared to the likes of Michael Meyers, Jason, Freddy, and Leatherface. Plus, isn't there an uncut version of Pieces that's a bit more hard to come by? I saw it back in the 80's on VHS and then about 6 years ago my cousin obtained a copy on VHS, but it was obviously a different cut with a lot of things missing, including plotpoints as to why the guy was sewing his victims together.

These four movies are an awesome deal for 10 bucks. I think the only one I haven't seen before is The Godsend. I remember watching the other 3 before but it's been a long, long time.

I'm psyched about The Outing and The Vagrant as I seem to remember those being pretty fun.

I'm fine with it just being DVD too. These are the types of movies where it warrants a budget release and no blu-ray, because I have no problem dropping 10 bucks down for this. At such a low price, there's probably many others that would pay that amount as well just for the curiousity of watching a few unknown films.

On the flip side though - outside of a small group of hardcore horror fans, there's probably not tons of people willing to pay 20 bucks for a blu-ray of one of these flicks and I don't want Scream Factory going out of business because they attempted to do a high def transfer for every minor film they have access to.

Its all good mate, I don't always remember when movies where released.

Yeah, Pieces might be as common as Myers, Jason etc, but amongst Slasher fans, its pretty well known. It also has alot of big releases, eg Arrow Video and Grindhouse releasing. The Arrow DVD is fully uncut.

You create packs with the films you have ... They all won't be perfect.
Though I didn't make this pack up... Jeff made this one.

I doubt you will ever find Disconnected, but it is so unique.

Moonstalker is a personal favorite, its a Summer Camp slasher... in the Snow. Highly recommended.

Yeah, there's always a few you don't know about. I'm a massive 80's slasher fan. I have 92 of them (plus all the major franchise ones).

Deathdream (aka Dead of Night) has nothing to do with Elm Street and was released 12 years before the latter film. It is in fact a Vietnam-era update on the short story 'The Monkey's Paw'. A superbly moody and atmospheric film, the first American fictional film other than The Green Berets that directly addressed the war in Vietnam (though only as a brief setting, not as a soapbox), and co-starring the wonderful Lynn Carlin and John Marley (who had earlier played a similarly strained married couple in Cassavetes' Faces), Deathdream is a true gem and one of the finest horror films of its era. BU released an excellent SE DVD, but, as with the rest of their catalog apparently, no plans for a BD. Anyone who hasn't seen it should seriously snag a copy from Netflix immediately, and watch it late and night and in the dark....

I love the too. That is by far my favorite of the Horror subgenres. There are literally thousands that you can find, its an endless supply and they all work best by feeding off of each other.

I hope there are some fun slashers like X-Ray and Schizoid ahead, because I am getting tired of toting around my Vhs tapes!

Damn, that's a lot of slashers! LOL, I just looked at your collection and I like how you have it broken into essentially three different groups: Mostly slashers, but then you have the family favorites from the 80's, like Back to the Future, A Christmas Story, Breakfast Club, and then later the Marvel superhero movies. I dig it! At least no can say you don't have any contrast in your collection against those slashers.

What about The Lamp? Yes, there's The Outing but as I understand, there's an uncut version titled The Lamp.

You make it sound much more appealing, and like I said I have never heard of it before. Some film with the title 'Dream' was called an Elm Street rip in some slasher doc though. I thought it may have been that.

Thanks for the info.

Hey, now that's one I know! The soldier comes back home from the war and back from the dead. Isn't that a Bob Clark film too?

Thanks mate. There's a still alot out there that I don't own and I'm have never heard of. Most of my slashers are on DVD, as the genre really lacks on Blu ray, which is unfortunate. But, I really hope Scream releases more of them.

Yes, as Akoris had said. It's too bad Clark abandoned the horror genre, as he had a real aptitude for it.

I agree. I still rate Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things as one of the essential zombie films.

I used to have a ton of movies on VHS, mostly horror and science fiction, but I got rid of them and now I only have a select few on DVD. I'm really only getting started with blu-ray, which is why I don't have much in my collection. Everytime the format changes, I'm resistent to rebuild my collection, but I still love movies of all kinds.

BTW, one of my favorite's was Romero's Martin -- I'm sure you guys have seen it, but I'd call that a slasher more than a vampire flick. Probably not obscure enough though.
